Just got the offer in the mail - its $495 to join the MCC, then another $508 for the 2015/2016 season.
Just wondering if I should do this or not. Not real flush at the moment but I'll be able to scrape the $$ together somehow..Anyway just had a look at the fixture & we play 8 games at the G this year - so i guess if you go to every game, plus a couple of days of tests and other events - soccer etc then it is kind of worth it. If I went to 12 events it would work out I pay $42 entry each time at $508 a year. I live in East Keilor though so its a fair old hike in there and back. But I guess at $42 a shot its pretty good given the seats - opportunity to take guests etc etc...
Anyone a member - any thoughts? Also anyone know how long after I get the provisional membership it would take to get full and what i miss out on as a provisional member..??
Thanks in advance ;)

As a provisional member you miss out on gf day, nothing else afaik.
I don't go that often cos I'm busy on weekends, but I go to gf day, Boxing Day and a couple other finals (usually a prelim, but maybe deprived of that this year) every year and it's worth it for that alone. Obviously you won't get gf day immediately, but it's worth the wait... Probably a few more years for full mship.
It's also great if there's a big game on which isn't essendon, easy to head in if you're free when otherwise you might not.

My son has been a provisional member for about 7 years and this year his provisional membership was upgraded which means he's getting closer to full membership

So worth it...the fact you can attend the GF yearly (once a full member) plus walk into any other final, the cricket, all home and away games there is a reason you've waited 20+ years for this...jump on it...longest waiting list in the word and you're wondering if you should take up your option...:drunk:

Just be aware that depending on the event, having a MCC membership doesn't get you in (World Cup cricket, some soccer matches etc) you'll still have to buy a ticket.

Is it worth it? I love being a member because it does mean you can rock up whenever you want, which is great especially for finals and 'blockbuster' games. Depending on your financial situation it can be a bit of a pain in the arse. I struggled to pay it each year while young but didn't want to give it up because I knew that I want it as I got older and my finances improved. My cousin had to give his up as he couldn't afford it and now he's gutted.

You should be able to pass on Provisional membership and take up full membership in about 7-10 years when it is likely you have the cash. Thats what I did some time ago.

It's tough to actually make the dollars stack up, unless you go a lot.

One thing i've noticed this year is that they have offered me a combined Essendon membership with access to Telstra dome for an extra $90 odd, with my renewal. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I'm a restricted member. Have been for 10 years and still a fair way off full membership. Restricted is basically the same as full except no GF, voting rights and some lower privileges around guests in the long room etc.

Afaik, provisional is a new category this year with lower rights again (less guests, maybe no Anzac Day) but if you don't take whatever you've been offered by end of August next year you're off the waiting list. MCC Facebook page and their member services team are surprisingly good for this stuff. EFC could learn a bit.

Well with 236,000 waiting list members at say an average of $80 per member (it's now $110 but I am averaging it down), they have $18,880,000 to put towards social media engagement.

I became a full member at the age of 22. Got in at the right time. Anyway, my answer is a million times yes. The real value is AFL finals. When tickets are normally around the 150 mark, you can just waltz on in.

Not an MCC member myself, but my experiences surrounding the MCC have been thus far underwhelming.

People standing in the mud in a queue for an ANZAC Day seat, no beer in your seat as examples.

I mean, if I want to go to ANZAC Day, I can go. If I want to attend an Essendon Grand Final (when it happens in 2067 that is), I can. If I want to go to the Boxing Day test, I can.

In fact, many of the events that are considered hard to get in to, are they really? The MCC excuses its members of much of the PLANNING required.

I suppose the question I would ask, if the waiting period wasn't so extraordinarily long, would it still be considered as exclusive and desired? I'm guessing not - it doesn't really interest me.

Nah don't bother.

I have no reason for my advice other than I don't want to be like everyone else in this thread.

I curse my old man every day for not putting me on the list at birth

haha

My dad put my brother and I and forgot about himself. Biggest mistake of his life according to him.

I think it's lost a lot of its lustre since the AFL clubs got their shit together and and started offering more higher end membership for those that wanted them. Used to be just 11 game season tickets and a few social club memberships.

I'm on the list and I think i'd still take it up but i'm an AFL and EFC member too which gives me everything I could want footy-wise. I'd really only be getting it for cricket.

The no drinks in seats is criminal. I really have zero understanding of why such a rule is required and/or wanted by anybody. How is it a crime to have a quiet beer whilst watching the cricket? It's a thoroughly ridiculous state of affairs. Childish.

It is exclusive and desired because it has a 40 year waiting list. If you could waltz up and buy one tomorrow, most people would struggle to justify the money I think.
But it is good, and if you are young and go with your mates, there are actually some really nice bars that serve full strength beer in glass pots. It is very good when you are young and go to a lot of games.

Can't you use your AFL membership for cricket? Or is that just big bash?

Just remember you can't enjoy a beer in your seat and there is a ballot for the GF.
1.25 litre coke with a dash of bourbon doesn't need a collar!!!
Plus the ballot is only for a reserved seat not entry..Full members are assured entry on GF day as long as you get there early..the ballot only gets you a reserved seat which enables you to turn up anytime...I got there at 7am for the 2000 granny and got a front row seat...It's so worth it...

You just need a coke bottle in your bag, never had a prob with that..Having said that, getting a beer in the bars in the members is pathetic..So fricken bus, they really should allow punters to have a beer in their seats at their leisure...There is a stuck up element there, hopefully that attitude fades away...

Don't want to sound like a total alcoholic (let's just go with a very merry football enthusiast), but it would be my number one complaint by a considerable distance.
