When did cam's (potential ) mental health issue become gws sole responsibility?

If cam knew there was potential that he would be unwell he should have stuck to a 1 year contract. He signed a 2 year deal so he has to honour it.

Few people that have or are susceptible to mental health problems have this sort of foresight, even fewer of them would be 18 years old. You should learn to hold your mouth when people are talking about things you know nothing about.

Because it falls under the category of "Well, yeah, but you'd say that either way". Because I think that people that truly believe that players have no idea what sort of salary they can expect to be offered to them, before they demand a trade to said club are living in Fantasyland, frankly.

And anyway, the point remains. You can make up whatever figure you want for McCarthy, if it had managed to grab him in the 2015/16 offseason (I'd conservatively halve Boyd's offer from the Bulldogs), would the salary on offer be matched, if Freo has to wait until the 2017/18 offseason to get him?

Fremantle remains short a key forward and if/when McCarthy finally gets there once his current contract expires, Pavlich and Sandilands will be gone, Johnson, Mundy and D.Pearce could be on the way out, even Barlow and Ballantyne will be 30.

I don't see it as irrelevant. I'm not a mental health expert, so I'd prefer to discuss this from a football perspective. The conventional wisdom is that McCarthy is pushing to play football for the Dockers. Playing for the Dockers in 2016 could be a lot different to playing for the Dockers in 2018.

It is though. AFL is high pressure sport GWS or Fremantle it doesn't matter people still have expectations. In Perth though he is clearly more comfortable which is why GWS allowed him to return for a break.

I haven't told you he is not that good. He showed plenty in a four month period. I wanted Freo to select him after seeing him in a state game. But GWS got there first. I liked watching him play for your mob. I would be glad to have traded for him, even pay what I think is overs - but not as much as you wanted: Neale and two first rounders ffs. And I have expressed my concern over how GWS dealt with the kid since last year.

I think that now Cam would be best served if he can get himself right and play for the Giants. For Freo to take him on now, they would have to be very sure that he will be able to cope. This is not a good situation for anybody, but it was totally foreseeable. People just had to listen to his manager.

And by the by, unlike many many posters I want GWS to succeed as a football club. I understand the line in the sand approach, but think they chose the wrong player to do it to. They have lost a few good people recently, and the replacements will need to improve their approach if they are to build a strong culture.

That seems true in hindsight but the conditions were there:

Lost a key forward in contract last year after saying they wouldn't trade him
In contract for two more years
Destination club didn't have much to offer that fit their needs
Manager is a flog
