Delisted free agent. Cheers gws ya classless Muppets.

Very average comment.

A lot of hypocrisy from freo supporters regarding how GWS should have traded Cam because he was homesick. If every club did that, especially with contracted players, we would've been without Pav from 2002 onwards.

Fremantle would have done exactly the same thing in GWS's position if we had a 2nd year key forward who had just kicked 35 goals for the year.

Few need to get off their high horse.

McCarthy seems like a spoilt little turd. Like most of the young footballers (and youth in general) he feels he lives in a land of entitlement and if he doesn't get what he wants, when he wants, then he will take his bat and ball and go home.
Poor form from his manager IMO, he didn't get the trade done so plan B, crack the sooks.
McCarthy saw other players like Treloar and the like getting traded to their club of choice, what he didn't take into account was that they had done the hard yards for a few years prior, not just get drafted, walk through the door, sign a contract and say "hey I want out".
Also (and I admit I am unsure)but after Freo traded for Bennel, did they have much to trade for him even if GWS were willing to let him go?
This action will continue to grow if the AFL don't bring in a rule stating that once a player is drafted, then he must spend a minimum three years at the club.
Either that or clubs need to do a little more homework on a player before picking them, as sometimes the best player on paper, isn't the best player for the club.

Yeah like that other spoilt turd that played for your club I think he went by the alias figjam, couldn't wait to get out of Brisbane.

I think there is different levels of home sickness.

We have looked after players previously e.g. Roberton.

The only question I have is how much of the issue were GWS aware before and during trade week. If they thought it was just a case of general home sickness they were correct in their decision but perhaps they should have spoken\listened with the player and manager in greater detail.

Considering the photos he took when it was announced at the pub joking around, it couldnt of been to bad.

He did probably think he would get the trade, and only after trade week realised it wasnt so clear cut so has gotten worse.

Wouldve also helped if his manager went through the club instead of his media friends trying to put pressure on the club

And then what?

If that is the case then GWS did nothing wrong and it is just an unfortunate situation.

At the time, when Young said GWS should fly over to Perth to see him I thought it just a ploy, but now I am not sure.

Once again he went through the media with it.

If this was concern on youngs part, bahahahahaha sorry, and not a ploy he would of been at the club and discussing with them.

His bull comments about the end of season sit down with Leon saying there wasnt time to tell him he wanted out. Please. I typed it in 5 seconds, I'm sure saying it would be quicker.

And what I've been saying for years comes to fruition.

If players don't get where they want, they will just start sitting out seasons using the mental illness umbrella as an excuse, given the stigma around those terms and illnesses at the moment.

I love how you know for sure that he didn't discuss it with the club. There is no doubt he was trying to put pressure on GWS, perhaps GWS were not believing him that McCarthy was seriously home sick.

Gen Y kid takes photo of himself and a mate at the pub... Yep mustn't have been that bad.

It was notable idiot Toby Greene who was joking around and putting stuff on social media

In regards to not paying him that's a sure fire way to get sued for more than just he's owed.

They are holding him to a contract and not allowing him to ply his trade anywhere else. If that resulted in full blown depression the courts and lawyers would have a field day.

I remember fremantle being sued by a former player for depression- http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dockers-in-the-dark-about-depression-ruling-20100311-q1xe.html
Would be impossible to prove causation. Agree lawyers get a field day (always happens when court is involved) but hard to see his case succeeding. It would be argued that McCarthy knew he signed a contract which was exclusive in nature and is bound by it; and if it is written no play = no pay....

GWS would like pay his base pay to avoid the heat that would come if they cut the pay of someone with "mental illness". But after McCarthy exhausts sick days or what is ever equilivant in AFL then legally it wouldnt be unreasonable for GWS to cease paying him under leave without pay. Unless of coarse McCarthy can put a work cover claim in for depression?

Either way McCarthy would have play most games this year which means he is out of pocket with match payments ($4500 per game?)

Cam commented on the post as well.

As the entire post said it probably has gotten much worse now

His manager was the one who said he didnt have time to discuss it in the end of year interview. Just repeating the filthy mouth piece

Ok for one minute can you take everything in this discussion away and im going to make this personal, just about you!

Do you tell your mates everything, especially about the hard times or have you ever changed your story because you didnt think the truth was what they wanted to hear?

Yes there are times. But being friends they can usually tell if something is horribly wrong, going on freo fans he is having and has been for a while a breakdown due to homesickness.

He is obviously not right at the moment

This is not entirely correct.
I have lived with mental illness and nobody had any idea.

Especially as a 20 something year old bloke, you just dont feel like you should discuss it with mates.

Totally the wrong attitude, but my mates never knew what I was going through.

Ive had issues in my 20s as well. Friends were the 1st ones to notice

But either way the kid does have issues. Blind freddy can see that. The club has sent him home to give him time. Nothing else they can really do.

Risky business, I would imagine after a year out of the game, attitude problems or mental demons to boot clubs would be very wary of taking a player on.

I can't see this becoming the norm.

Well Mitch Clark was a very serious and public example and he was given another shot.
From what I understand he was very deep in the mental illness, so if he's given another shot, I would say most others would too.

Especially if the new club knew that they were using it as an excuse and weren't really suffering. (not for one second saying that either Clark or McCarthy are)

I know it sounds horrible, but if clubs are going to keep holding players ransom and players are going to keep signing extensions when they dont want to be there, this seems like the easy way out for some people.

The real trouble is finding the happy medium between being a door-mat feeder club, and being super hard-asses to keep your good players.

It sucks for clubs like brisbane and gws who have teams raiding their youngsters, and dont want to just roll over and let it happen

Player agents/managers must cop more blame than clubs IMO.
