So he wasn't man enough to see it for what it was and just play on? In other words, it got to him and he felt he had to respond. Two immature ********s teasing each other, the only thing missing was a sandpit.

You're having trouble keeping your timelines straight. One report has been running for days, the HUN report came out this morning.

In the video he says a lot of things, some you can see, some you can't. Its the wild out of control look in his eyes I found the most disturbing. Clearly a short circuit up top somewhere in that boy.
My timeline?

The article I am referring to is dated the 17th.

"Wild out of control look", maybe he was upset after just having his life threatened?

Intimidating demeanor, 4 week suspension.

50 metre penalty bare minimum.

So you accept the sledge got to him and therefore he's soft, and so must also accept that Petterd had every right to be upset about the return sledge.

Very magnanimous of you.

upset after just having his life threatened

Regardless of what was said, and disregarding this particular incident, I LOL at people that suggest that anything can be said, on field, off field, in daily life, and that it should merely be ignored. How about if I came up to you on the street, bumped you, and said "Watch yourself mate! What did you say? Is that your daughter there? Maybe I'll rape that little bitch if you don't watch yourself. How would you like that mate? What if I cut her up, pissed on her skull, buried her in the woods?"

So there's no line is there? Anything can be said by anyone, in any situation, without fear of reprisal? Just laugh and shrug it off?

I would probably be more concerned about the assault (bump) then the words. Tackling someone is acceptable on the footy field but not in general life.

If you don't know the person who makes the threat you don't know whether you should take it seriously or not - for all you know you could have bumped in to the next mr and mrs. birnie or just a random hot-headed kid

at least on an AFL footy field you'd be around 99% sure that the threat the player made to you wouldn't end up with anything happening (some players may follow it up - but with reputations etc., I doubt many would be stupid enough)

whereas with someone on the street, or someone in a suburban/country footy game you don't know as it may be the first time you've ever seen them and straight off the bat they are threatening your family

I want to play poker with you, your table talk must be awesome.

Let's say it was a mutual bump, no one to blame, but one party wants to make something of it?

I put forward a hypothetical for the majority here that seem to think that nothing is off-limits, anything can be said, by anyone, to anyone, in any walk of life. I just wanted people to confirm what they have already said, that yes, they are ok with anything being said.

Carlton supporters say this to me all the time.

I know, I was just messing with you. I found the delivery of your original comment quite amusing.

He simply returned fire.

This happens every game when players sledge, out of humour or aggression.

What doesn't happen is them reporting it to umpires/making a complaint. That is soft.

Reg, you sure spend a lot of time posting about WC if only you had the same passion for Fremantle.

No. Context is key. The majority of people here who argue that this is ridiculous are basing it upon the fact that the sledging occurred in the context of a football match, where such slander and vulgarity are commonplace, and not a general reflection on attitudes of the wider society, nor the footballers after the siren.

Taking what was said and applying it to a different context robs your argument of validity. If I were to say "Jesus Tapdancing Christ" down the street, nobody would bat an eyelid. If I were to say it in a church on Sunday morning I'd probably be thrown out of there, due to the time and place.

I'm posting about an incident that just happens to involve a WCE player, as a lot of unsavoury AFL "incidents" do. Freo players don't tend to get themselves caught up in these things.

I post about Freo a lot too, but you probably don't frequent the Freo board, so you wouldn't know.

I lol'd, then was concerned you might be serious.

Reg, you taking the moral high ground is like Gaddafi calling on Cameron to step down in response to the London riots.

Yeah, you are right, I am fired up over the overly politically correct nature of our society. You are right in saying that I would PM the mods in your defence, because I take no offence at you calling me names. It is all in the heat of the battle as far as I am concerned. I take 0 offence at the 'white' or 'black' nor at the **** or whatever the second word is because I did make a personal attack on you (and your like) and expect and accept some kind of payback.

My grammar mistake was unintentional. I am well aware that like is not be employed possessively or as a contraction so should not have an apostrophe.

Mate, "politicial correctness" has become such a blanket statement to cover a lot of things people don't agree with.

Don't begrudge Petterd for becoming offended at McGinnity's words and taking some action. I wrote earlier that I would seriously lose my shit if someone said this about my Mum. Maybe you wouldn't, I don't know, we're all different.

There's no winners in any of this here.

Are you kidding me?

Are you really that surprised that the AFL would want to drastically distance itself from any sort of negative press regarding respect to women? Especially the Eagles, given (wrongly, in my opinion) the horrible public image their club has sustained in previous years.

We had a Women's Round ffs

Let's see;

Alleged rape.
Apparently knocking up a schoolgirl (we know the truth now).

VS

Telling somebody you'll sleep with their mother after they've threatened to kill you - when you both know you're both full of shit.

It's a completely invalid comparison; and if Petterd hadn't sooked about it, then it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

What a stupid analogy.

Why use a complete stranger as part of your arguement?

No matter what was said to Petterd, whoever said it would never ever follow through with the sledge and he knows that.

If he doesn't the guys a complete gimp(going by his gimp tattoo that's a possibility).

Q: Petterd would know McGinnity doesn't know his mother so why wouldn't he laugh call him a ********** and laugh it off?
A: Because he's a dog

There is no need for analogies. The words speak for themselves: disgusting and depraved.

Well done to the club for taking action. It seems that the club has learnt from past events, but some supporters don't learn. Will they be writing in their protest letters about a club gone soft?

On another thread, and in another galaxy far far away, some WCE supporters seem pleased that this will being attention to the player because of his stellar improvement. What a bunch of tools.

Good post and it adds some perspective.

Agreed. The AFL would sooner rub someone out for on the field stuff than off-field stuff

The suspensions to Cousins/Johnson were made by the clubs - not the AFL (though my guess is the AFL asked the clubs to make the suspensions OR said that if the suspensions were not put in place, they would have suspended said players themselves)

The AFL suspended Shaw - but that was different to alleged rape, illegal sex etc. and because Collingwood probably would not have suspended him. Lovett was suspended/sacked by St. Kilda - not the AFL iirc. So that's another one the AFL didn't want to deal with.

Comparing those two events really does ad perspective and sheds far more light on where the AFL's agenda is and where their priorities lay in terms of the AFL's "image"

It's not his fault that Petterd can give it out but can't cop it. I don't see McGinnity mentioning, let alone whinging about what Petterd said to him. Every Richmond, Gold Coast and Port Adelaide player will already be thinking of things to say to this female who calls herself an AFL player.
