I don't think I need to elaborate. I think your explanation of losing COLA through misuse and your exclusive advantage of drafting gifted kids along with the "woe is me" attitude towards Ed from Sydney Swans says it all really.

You have an unfair advantage in drafting... And it's all Ed's fault for recognizing it!

Carrying on about losing COLA, or carrying on about how other people recognize you have an unfair advantage with your academy is what makes you the spoilt brats of the AFL.

Whatever minimal advantage Sydney had from COLA could easily have been countered by the Collingwood FC being managed better, for example not replacing Mad Mick with Buckley.

Im loving this thread, its like everyone has been holding back for years for some reason at having a crack at big mouth Eddie and are letting it all out now, great stuff. Crawl back under your rock Eddie McGuire.

The Academy started in 2010... and recruits young athletes as young as 11 years old.

I would love the chance for my club to lock kids young athletes at a young age... but that's just a rule for Sydney Swans...

The Spoilt Brats of the AFL.

But in fact you do have access to them. Every Academy player is open to a bidding process from all clubs. If you value a player with a higher pick than the Swans are prepared to match you get them. But in return for carrying the financial burden of the million plus dollars the Academy has cost the Swans in the last few years, the Swans get the chance to use their next available pick to secure the player in the draft.

This bidding system is fair.

And in fact, the way it is structured if the Academies do their job and start pumping out quality players every year, the majority of them will be heading out into the non expansion clubs. This adds to the available talent from traditional areas. It's a win win for football.

Eddie's comment overnight that he is still smarting from Colless giving him the finger is revealing. That was a decade ago, and he's still pissed off about it. He has a personal agenda here. It's as simple as that.

Eddie doesn't have a clue how things operate north of the murray..also shown by his failed gig up in sydney with ch9. Obviously can't stand anything sydney.

All this is pretty rich coming from a Collingwood president. Collingwood, a team that plays God knows how many home and away games MCG..talk about an advantage!!!

The academies are essential to the development of the game in NSW&QLD. Anyone who disagrees simply does not understand the lay of land up here and or only wants WA, SA and VIC players to be drafted. May as well go back to the old VFL hey?????

If/when these academies are shunning out 30 or so AFL players a year will anyone seriously be complaining?

Racist? "King Kong" attack on the soon-to-be Australian of the Year = tick.

Douchebag? AFL club president who uses every media opportunity to promote his club to the detriment of all others while claiming general interest = tick.

Carry on.

The classic "gotcha" crap that makes me feel ill. He was making the joke in reference to the fact that the term "ape" had been in the headlines for a couple of weeks and a no class promoter could do worse than using Goodes to promote the King Kong show (with tongue firmly in cheek). It was badly timed and inappropriate but I don't believe you or any one else believes McGuire is racist. It makes absolutely no sense to believe Eddie is racist. A true racist would speak all kinds of vile words about the people he loathed( like the billionaire who owned that basketball team who was caught on tape in a private conversation). What kind of moron would speak what he believed to be racist comments on live radio given the climate at the time let alone any time?! You simply hate his guts and have taken great delight in pouncing on his off the cuff comments. I'll bet you were salivating when the news broke. Do you seriously think Yagmoor and Armstrong would choose to play at a club with a rednecked, racist President?

You armchair heroes with your lynch mob mentality are the true sickos. I must say Eddie hid his hatred of the indigenous brilliantly for a long time, as Goodes considered him a friend before the on air gaffe. I suppose Channel Nine and Triple M are happy to have a racist as the face of their companies too?

Totally true. Eddie didn't have a problem with any of the academies until he discovered the Swans had some possible top ten talent coming through. Now the Suns, the Giants and poor old Lions must be made to pay.

We've could've had AFL academies in NSW and Qld, which the Swans and Roos in particular pushed for years. If the AFL, including Eddie, aren't going to fund talent development in those states, they can't complain that the clubs do it.

We've become used to Eddie's pursuit of self-interest and puerile trash-talking, but in this case it's the utter disinterest in the good of the game and the willingness to harm other clubs in order to hit his target of the moment.

Whats Carlton got to do with it? Was there really a need to upset the apple cart for a flog like figjam?
Because his time was well and truly up at Collingwood. That has been shown by his abject performance at Carlton, where he inherited a team he himself described as being in the premiership window.
Anyway we are supposed to be discussing Longmire's blatant pettiness. You brought up Malthouse.

So do you think Longmire is under an obligation to take on an extra job during his holidays just because Eddie wants him to? The whole matter would have remained private had Eddie not made it public - hard to see how Longmire is the petty one there.

No we are discussing Fat Eddie and his stupidness.
Nah, you've widened the parameters to have a good old whinge about Eddie full stop. Sydney people don't like Eddie because he is threatening the cosy deal Swans have with COLA.

Many of them will resort to half truths and straight out inaccuracies in an attempt to smear him. There is no doubt Longmire is being childish in the extreme in refusing to participate due to Eddie.

I'm loving the hate. It is simply a clear sign that Eddie has gotten up lots of noses for a long time. Long may he reign.:p

'Childish' is exactly the word that comes to mind when I think of McGuire. Why on Earth would Longmire want to work with McGuire? Quite apart from the fact that the hybrid thing is a complete waste of time.

Nah. Eddie is one of natures gentlemen. A very sensitive, intelligent, generous and caring individual with the best interests of the whole AFL at heart. Just as well he's doing it, because presidents such as Peggy what's her name sure ain't.

No I didn't hate Eddie. I thought he was a loudmouth and I think he's lucky to get away with being paid by the media to promote his team. But I didn't know if he was a racist or not, and, like most people I presumed he wasn't. But he revealed he was in his statement - and it was more disappointing as it showed that his apparent understanding of Goodes after the young fan's taunt was just a front.

He is a media person - he knows the effect of what he says and does on camera or over the mic. It was his casual revelation of his racial disparagement that was astounding. Because he is known as a loudmouth he largely got away with it after a few mumbled apologies. But the original statement revealed the real Eddie and now I know he's not suitable to be a leader of a club or, at present, of an apparent lynch mob hunting down his next interstate target.

I don't think I'm a sicko. I just hate cant.

Yes, Longmire should take on the job if asked. It is an honour and a privilege to be involved with an Australian team, even though it is a stupid, meaningless waste of time.

So your happy for all Collingwood supporters to play for Collingwood... stay with their Family and Friends?

It is a massive advantage to Sydney to be allowed to do this... Thus, not an Equal Playing field when it comes to drafting.
Maybe not play with Collingwood, but stay with their family and friends they invariably get to for the majority of traditional football states lists.

Non-traditional states simply do not have the option of a significant portion of the list as local talent.

An average Victorian under 10 side would probably beat my clubs (western Sydney) under 13/14 side!

It is a massive advantage to traditional football states who can draft local talent as opposed to the non traditional markets who get the greater majority of their list from traditional states.

The goals of the academies are much bigger than the clubs that currently run them.
If the clubs that run them do not get some sort of access to the players for putting significant amounts of investment into them, then the AFL should take over the operation and run it themselves.

I think you're being a smart-alec, staxy. Longmire is a Premiership coach who may very well be REIGNING Premiership coach by the time the games roll around. Asking him to set aside time for a game nobody cares about to be an ASSISTANT is silly. The idea that Eddie is bemoaning Longmire's lack of patriotism is laughable.

Mike has summed Eddie up perfectly tonight on OTC. Can't get his own way so he tries the Broady Boy Bullyboy tactics and tries to bludgeon you with his falsified toughness. Truth is Eddie is not tough at all and could not Knock a sick Granny off a pisspot. A Coward who snipes from behind and when he realises he has bit off more than he can chew squeals like a stuffed pig for the support of the rest of the AFL.

No one is calling Eddie a card carrying member if the KKK, we're calling him an ignorant bogan casual racist douche bag.

But your right, it was a "slip of the tongue". It's not like he has any form in this area. Just ask the people of Western Sydney, or "the land of the falafel." Nor did Eddie admit what he did was "an act of inadvertent vilification." We're just sensitive up North and should laugh at his locker room school boy humour, then listen closely when he speaks about poor Collingwood's unfair treatment at the behest of those nasty expansion clubs who are using their own money to secure the future of AFL in under developed markets. We should also play nice with him, despite everything he had said and done in the name of 'stralya. My mistake.
