Mckernan to come home?

I wonder what we could get McKernan for. I cannot see that any other clubs would really want to go for him and it is obvious that he will never play good footy under Pagan.

Corey would be a great aquisition for us for the right price. Especially as a player who can contest the centre bounce then run forward to kick goals from outside fifty.

Probably win another B&F

I wouldn't take him if it was a case of "he wants to come here, so let's see how we can make it happen", instead there needs to be a role he can play in covering a deficiency of ours. I think it's safe to say the football department would be looking at it the same way.

Having said that, it would bolster our depth in the ruck and forward line, and that being a player who can play both roles, he'd get a game most weeks unless his form was very poor.

Don't know about a swap for Porter though. McKernan can play maybe two to three years? Porter is still just shy of 27 and has the type of body and game (when playing well) that could go on for another 6 to 8.

And no matter what anyone says regarding Porter's form this season and parts of 2002, he is a better ruckman than McKernan... and with the plan having been to have Porter as #1 ruck in 2004 I think it would unbalance the side and put too much pressure on Hale if McKernan was #1 ruck.

McKernan for Teague, I think.

I like Teaguey, but I don't think that he's fitting in under Laidley's gameplan... a move to Carlton could be a win for both player and club....

How can a move to Carlton be a win for Teague?

Anyway i want Porter to stay, regardless of whether McKernan comes back to Arden Street or not.

Agree we should try and keep hold of Porter. Surely there's enough players on the fringe (the usual midfielder suspects Smith et al) that we would not be parting with Porter.

Everyone must have forgotten 1996 when Corey won the brownlow with voss and hird but was suspended through the year for falling on john barnes who shoulda won an oscar for his acting. ever since they he has been shattered and hasnt had the confidence like he did that year

Nonsense..... Corey still made many outstanding contributions after '96.... too many to mention ie: '99GF not good enough ???

And Corey even snared the B&F at Carlton last season....

Corey lost his balance and made contact to Barnesy's head...the tribunal interpertered it as delibrate. Tough pill to swallow

He'd get a game.

True, but it's Carlton we are talking about here. I'd rather play for Port Melbourne most of the time with the odd game for North than have regular game time with that lot.

I work with somebody who is related to Brett Ratten, who will apparently never ever return to Carlton while Deni$ is coach.

Rumour is McKernan will be traded to North, for Morrell and Teague.

How much credence does it have? Probably not much, BUT as a hypothetical, how would people view this trade?

I have nothing against Corza, but why give up two young players for a guy at the end of his career in a position that we have covered? He`s no certainty to return to form either.

If we`re going to give up two fringe players, I`d prefer a player that a) has a long term future and b) targets a possie that needs filling or is a player with a bit of mongrel/hardness to help the youngsters walk taller.

On the surface, it looks like we're giving away one player too many, but the flipside is that Teague doesn't look as if he has a future with us and Morrell looks to be on the way out.

I'm indifferent to the deal. Wouldn't be upset if it went through and I wouldn't be fussed if it didn't.

We would be getting very very ripped if we follow through with this deal. Im a big fan of Teague, he adds depth to our squad, depth which should not be traded IMO. What if we aren't so lucky with injuries next year.

Corey is finished. A straight swap for Morrell is fair, and maby throw in a late pick, if we want him that bad. I just dont think we can play Corey, Sav and Ports. Too slow, too inconsistent, no future. We CANT be relying on these big men to get us through. Simply not good enuff nemore. If we get Corey, it would probably spell the end for Rocca. I dont know who id rather. Either way, dont give up to much for players who are basically finished.

This is the question IMO.

Sav or Corey?

We couldn't play both. Honestly, I would be more confident with Sav lining up at FF round 1 next year. That is sad.

The rumour mill is alive and well.:) That'd have to be one floated by someone from Carlton. Personally I don't see a lot of value in chasing McKernan but a Corey for Digby trade would be fair (unless Corey has a chunky contract to be honoured).

Definitely not worthy of 2 players based on his final season with us and the season just completed.

on the surface i think looks like a bad deal, but morrell and teague are worth nothing to us. That same argument could be said for McKernan, but I think McKernan has a lot of value for us as a side.....obviously teague and morrell would also be worth a lot to Pagan and they're more likely to see the better side of the deal....but this needs to be taken with they eye on the future, and in reality corey isn't going to win us a premiership, however he does have a few good years in him (much more than sav) and he can take the pressure off our youngsters to step up too early in their development

I think it's a pretty fair swap, although I reckon we should probably get some higher draft picks in this deal, or else carlton pay the majority of his pay for it to go thru....i'd much prefer to have richo though, he would add so much more to our team

Well considering Carlton's draft picks go 2, 63, 79, 136, 231, 4847, 10394 this seems unlikely.

I can't see us playing Porter, Rocca and McKernan in the same team. Porter will be the number one ruckman, which means if Rocca stands up there is no room for Corey. If Sav is moved on, Corey would be a good fit (at the right price)... I would see him playing FF, definitely NOT as a permanent ruck, and giving support/rest for Porter in the ruck and Petrie at CHF. I wouldn't think this would impede the development of Hale or McIntosh... perhaps there may be a squeeze with Diggers though... and I wouldn't want Hale or McIntosh burnt out or damaged before they are ready to make an impact...

Corey is shot playing under Pagan... I think a straight McKernan for Teague (maybe a draft pick shuffle as well), would be good for Carlton as they will get a good flanker and will get nothing out of Corey, while it will be good for us as there isn't a spot for Teague in the team and Corey can give us more structure and flexibility.

I think it boils down to whether Sav plays next year and if a suitable trade can be arranged. I honestly don't think Corey would have much value on the open market, so he might come cheap... and I'd love to see him back :) .

I can't believe how many of you want to see the back of Teague and would swap him for Corey!!!

Teague is a 'goer' with BALLS, while Corey is a shadow of his former self......

Shut the gates and change the locks!!!

Stay away 'Big Mac' :D

agree wholeheartedly, although i wouldnt rule out doing a trade involving teague...just not for corey. would love to see corey back at the club though...as a forward/rucking coach though, he is finished as a player and would only be holding back opportunities for hale, mcintosh or even perry and shore.

Well that's probably a good point, if McKernan wants to go and there's not much interest (I really can't imagine that there would be) Carlton won't be able to ask for much from us.

I think it's a good idea, not for him to be a superstar again, he can't regain youth and fitness but to be a good stop-gap measure for the next 2 years or so, while we really develop some more talls.

I think Corey will play in the ruck for us if he comes home. Our ruck stocks are thin. I dont care how much potential Hale and McIntosh have, neither are ready to be our no1. ruckman in 2004. And even though Porter tries hard, he made a meal of the being the no1. ruckman when Spider was injured.

IMO Corey would have been a gun ruckman (in the mould of Adam Goodes) if he was under the right coach. A B&F in his only year away from Pagan is more than just a coincidence methinks.
