You know things are really crook, when the Brisbane Lions feature as the second topic, only behind the Wallabies game, when we're under the microscope on the Offsiders.

Thank god for that. Gillon is the ultimate perception driven administrator ever seen in Australian professional sport. Let us have it media. Open fire!

Now the leading story on the Sunday Footy Show...a whole 7-8 minutes solely on the debacle that is the Brisbane Lions.

Hopefully the blowtorch is applied all week to the club, not just on whether Leppa should coach or not, but on the underlying issues that we're a basket case and need significant assistance.

Would be nice, but with the quality of most journalism these days I'm expecting many articles calling for Leppa to be sacked and that's it. Might get a decent piece from Caro, but that's it.

Blowtorch is on in the CM this morning. There are 3 articles, nothing really new in any:

1) Greg Davis writing about Leigh backing Leppa, and apparantly we are hiring a new development coach

2) Andrew Hamilton writing that the club appears to have blind faith in Leppa which could seriously damage the club in the long run, we should ask the AFL for money/help to find a new coach, and we should trade one of Rich/Hanley/Martin.

3) Crash Craddock saying that comparing the current team to the Bad News Bears is an insult to the Bears.

Why would we trade hanley or martin? They'd not have much trade value would they? Amp
I'd imagine Hanley would have enough credits to his name despite this season. Clubs would be confident they could improve his health and be a vital attacking player of difference for club on the cusp of pushing for a premiership. My opinion anyway.
Martin not so much I think. His current drop off shows that if he struggles around the ground that he's next to useless as his ruck work isn't up to the standard of most in the league.

Shaun McManus on one of the Perth radio stations this morning talking about Leppitch not lasting more than the next month.
Also mentioned that next years contract was dependant on KPIs this year...
Of course he is paid to talk poo but who knows?

Should have kept Leuenberger and traded Martin. Said it last year and will say it now:cool:

Leuenberger is 2 years younger and was the better ruckman.

If the Lions no longer played at the Gabba I would agree, but cricket pitch plus knee meant Leuenberger had to go elsewhere.

The problem was he was injured all the time. I don't think it is a coincidence that the very year he leaves us he has had much better news on the injury front.
He played 14 games for us last year. Had an interrupted preseaon due to his achilles and missed round 10 with the same complaint. Who knows how the rest of the year will pan out for him? I hope he has a good run, but there is plenty of the year left for him to miss yet. I don't think there is any evidence yet that shows he is better/healthier for leaving.

He does appear to have bulked up though. Wonder what supplements they are using nowadays.

Got afl 360 on and I'm actually looking forward to our segment even though it's for negative reasons. I want us to be ripped to pieces and stripped back and have our problems laid bare, sadly i feel they will likely just gloss over our problems in 30 seconds and move on like usual.

Robbo gave us a fair bake on SEN this morning for a while, and gave us a mighty whack on Twitter last night, so I would be surprised if they only glossed over our problems.

Up next: the plight of the brisbane lions and what this means for essendon

Pretty much focused on Leppa and that he needs to do some self introspection and go to the club for an honest discussion.

Then a bit on the players need to look at themselves and garbage they are dishing.

Over all, really wasn't much to the segment.

nothing mentioned re new admin/training base, PP, retention allowance, academy.

From Andrew Hamilton - "They (Lions) need to dangle a big name to the market — Daniel Rich, Pearce Hanley or Stefan Martin would be the obvious ones, to see if they can’t improve their list."

I asked him how they would 'dangle' Rich given that he's on a multi-year contract. His reply - "So was Redden". o_O

Unsurprising really.

Most of the commentary I've heard in the Melbourne media (SEN/AFL 360) follows the usual follow the leader motherhood statement narrative.

"They're crap and it's all their own fault and they need to fix their culture and why should they get a PP or any other help?'cause they won three Premierships 13 years ago and there are Melbourne Clubs what haven't won any for 50 years and they have to go through pain like everyone else and they can just suck it up"

And those who trot out all these vague generalisations never actually come up with any cogent, constructive suggestions.
