I'd be ropable if Essendon got one of Taylor or Green to walk to the PSD. They are down the bottom because they were caught doping and then for their one year as a woodenspooner they use it to take advantage of a genuine cellar dweller. If it was going to happen to any team it'd happen to us.
That wasn't an overly serious post. For all the PSD threats, in recent times I think only St Kilda have followed through.

...So if he's going to leave Brisbane because we don't see him valued at half a mil a year, who else is going to pay him that much?

This is the problem with free agency, there is always someone dumb enough to pay overs for a player.

Nah not at your post, it was directed at the fact that there's already been talk on footy classified (or some footy show) that Essendon had made an offer to Josh Green and were keen to take him in the PSD.

Yeah I've seen that too. So should we play him in the game against Essendon? lol. Nah, he can't be trusted so rest him. Can't afford him being the difference between the two teams.

The formular is very simple and no one is holding anyone over a barrell.

Club say Lewey we are keen to sign you, would you like to put it away early?

Lewey and his manager respond 'we are happy to stay, he likes the club, at this stage we hope his next 3 year contract to earn him around $500k and to avoid us testing the market and signing now, thats what it will take'.

Club says no way.

Lewey then tests his value on value on the open market, he either fetches that price, or something similar, or he doesen't - from there he eithers signs for $350k with us or doesen't.

Youll often hear not long after contract negotiations stall, 'they have come to terms' a month or so later, this is because the manager calls around and either gets interest or he doesent.

Not every player on our list is trying to bend us over, we are throwing huge contracts at anyone upright and breathing, can we really blame players for putting their hand up for a big contract, can we?

Rocky might get 800k a year from the Saints, lewey might get 500k from a club who are keen on him.

Arnt contract values set in increase soon? Long term contracts would account for this?

Lets not assume we are being systematically screwed by our players due to the go home 5, we are also putting the hard word on the early - and lets face it, we are hardly a desireable working environmemt.

The market value of a player determines their value, not their ability to take advantage of our weakend position.

The club is obviously leaking this stuff to Robbo because they think that the players are holding them over a barrel. First the Rockliff contract (Robbo had that story a month ago, but was asked to sit on it), and now this.

I imagine someone high up at the club wants to highlight just how ridiculous some of these numbers are, and the massive overs we are being forced to pay to keep the players here in QLD.

I can't wait to see who's up next. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than our season that's for sure.

It is Mate. Our 'leaking to the media' is head and shoulders above anyone else in the league.

FA has certainly made it a buyers market. True value of a player varies a lot depending on the club and what cash they have. A club with cash to spare could use it to get him over the line.

500k isnt as massive as it was only 4 or 5 years ago, but Taylor is still expecting $$$ on potential. Only his 3rd year, this doesnt need to be the money contract for him. Perhaps he should aim for 2 years at around 350. Coming off his 5th season he could be in career form and genuinely demand 500k a season, maybe more from an interested club elsewhere.

I dont think he is that far off being a really good player. If he increased his strength and improve his tackling he would be twice the player he is. Has a great work rate and can find the pill, can also kick a goal. I do think he suffers playing forward though, he plays his best games through the middle as a genuine link player.

He gets lost sometimes with his circle work, but i still like that he is at least trying to keep the ball moving. Could be a very damaging link up mid. Needs to keep modeling himself on Boomer and Zorko. Both smaller zippy types, but are able to impact games, and are stronger tackling types.

Was mentioned on Footy Classified about Rocky, and the length of contract, that we are spending 100% of our cap.....That contradicted what Swann said last year about our cap..

It seems like a complete waste of time and money continuing to follow the AFL at all. I don't feel like there is any hope at all for our club. Each year it's another blow that makes us another year away from being competitive.

Could be 100%, but we are front loading a lot of contracts, and i dont think we reached 100% the previous year, meaning we could go above 100% this year, which is why Swann might be saying we have money to spend. Next year we might only be sitting at 90%. Our spend should decrease each year i believe, as our bigger contracts like Beams are front loaded.

Could this have anything to do what a few posters were referring to yesterday? If so we really need to get to the bottom of what is going on and if the players don't care, really why should we??

I think that money is not the real issue at hand.

Do you feel Lewy, with his background etc. is really a money hungry p***k?

The Chinaman is not the issue here dude. It's about drawing a line in the sand. Across this line you DO NOT.... oh and Dude chinaman is not the correct nomenclature. ;)

Honestly players shouldn't be touching alcohol after the night of the game.. Something is seriously wrong with this club. If we don't do an extensive review at seasons end then we will continue to make the same horrendous mistakes. In fact i would start the review in the coming weeks. Might be an idea to haver some answers in place before we make decisions at seasons end.

Never before in my time as a Fitzroy and Lions member / supporter have I disliked the collective group, including coaches, as much as this lot.

Aside from perhaps half a dozen players, the majority of the rest are just self entitled campaigners with their own personal interests at heart and certainly not the club or their teammates.

Sadly for mine, Lewis Taylor is no longer one of those platers that I have any time or respect for.

Given how ridiculously shit we are, the players attitudes and air of self entitlement is staggering. It really is no wonder why the club has been as shit as it is and will be that way for a minimum of the next decade.

It's interesting that all these reports are coming out about Taylor not re-signing and his demands, yet Gardiner has the same player agent and is still unsigned. Does make you think that it's a leak from the club.

Maybe Gardiner has asked his agent Scott Lucas not to mention anything in the media? Maybe he isn't asking for silly money and is just weighing things up. No one really knows but one thing is for sure i would much rather keep Darcy than Lewy.

I think that judging players on the actions of their player agents is a bit of a long bow to draw and a sure fire way to misjudge a players personality and character. Players get fairly well insulated from the discussion of agent and club most of the time. Of course choice of agent can come down to it a little, but these guys sign on to agents when they're 16-18 its not like they have all the tools to discern who they should be going with.

I think this is a fair point. We'd want to be careful reading too much into Lewy's character.

On the other hand, he surely has to know that his contract issues are now out in public and that his manager is taking a combative public stance towards the club. As much as he may be insulated from specifics, he does have a professional responsibility to be mindful of the impact that his choices have on his employer. So, to the extent that he allows the current negotiation dynamic to go on, I think you have to treat him as jointly responsible regardless of his underlying motivations.

deleted a rant about Media...

Only part I'll leave is Rocky is probably about right with his mis-speak.

Players will become cliched sprouting robots once they have been "burnt" by the mis-representing, speculating, bandwagoning media. All because the "journo" needs to get one-up on the other guy so they all race each other to the bottom with NIL accountability.

OK so it was still a mini-rant
