How? Perfect way to build a list. Yes the got concessions for top picks, but their trading has been just as important in shaping the list. Gold Coast got the same concessions and look where they are on the ladder. GWS showed how you develop a bucket ton of kids without scarring them like Melbourne. We need to trade like they do, recruit mature guys to take heat off the young blokes. You could argue we are currently on the Melbourne trajectory with our top picks not playing near the level they should be playing at.
I feel like I've addressed these points before

Don't underestimate the effect that GWS following Gold Coast into the AFL has had, Gold Coast owned one draft, GWS has monopolised multiple drafts (theyve had no fewer then 3 first rounders in every draft year, one of the main reason why it isn't a model that can be easily followed.)

I actually think Melbourne(2012-onwards) is a realistic and decent model to follow. They've got a core of good young players in this time Hogan, Viney, Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw, Petrecca, Clayton. They then added players like Cross, Vince, Kennedy, Bugg, Garlett and Lumumba without sacrificing the premium picks to obtain the younger core above.

Hope it got out of him whatever ails him....has seemed like an disinterested angry ant for a while. Doubt he would get up to too much serious stuff with his mum there.

lol so he was play fighting and it became too 'willing'? Considering he wasn't injured what is that, like they were on the ground and not wanting to let go? I'm guessing the 'significant disturbance' was the bouncer asking them to leave the establishment?

I mean I'm not condoning acting like a twat at a pub (and as an Irish descendent he really didn't need to give that stereotype any more fuel) but really... there was no evidence of police involvement, no charges, no apparent evidence of Hanley being pissed, no injuries, and no exceptions to his training regime.

But there is a story?

Just reflects on how much journalists actually watch the Lions. He has been remarkably poor.
Was just about to comment on that part aswell. If they're just going to make shit up I'd rather they didn't say anything at all. The extent of Lions analysis is seeing who's topping the possessions= best player.
