The fact check is on Matthew Lloyd's statement that it (heart issues and Bell's Palsy) has gone through the roof. Its hasn't.

From the article:

The incidence of heart issues and Bell's Palsy hasn't gone through the roof. There's no evidence that they've even increased.

Stating that those medical incidents have "gone through the roof" is scare mongering that has no basis in reality.

You should read the Covid thread to see the fear mongering amongst the 3 Covid Fetishist Boomers. Its off the charts. Very odd behaviour.

Wait did he say this? If so I'll admit to being totally wrong, but I don't remember this at all.
In the clip - which is linked in the ABC article via twitter - Lloyd is directly asked about his own situation with Bell's Palsy and says this:

'heart issues and Bell's Palsy have gone through the roof since the boosters and covid issues'

He then goes on to quote Rucci saying 'wards in Adelaide hospitals are filled with people with similar issues'

As Duck says, scaremongering without any basis.

But you are right in that he did not specifically make a statement about his own Bell's Palsy condition coming just after his booster or anything like that. Although I can understand why people inferred that given the nature of the discussion.

One thing that frustrates me with these articles is why they don't just give numbers and put it to bed. Or at least a link to the data table.

Surely your frustration should be aimed at a nationally televised and highly popular sports program making alarmist claims without any evidence rather than the relatively short ABC article refuting it?

I dont think he was referring to the boosters, he clearly says covid as a possible reason.

To an extent my frustration is at both, but a thoroughly researched written article has a much greater ability to provide data than a bloky chat show with part of the entertainment being off the cuff chat.

Listen again - from the .54' mark he says 'heart issues and Bells Palsy have gone through the roof since the boosters and covid':

And no, these are not off the cuff comments around a water cooler. This was a scripted discussion on a carefully produced and timed nationally broadcast TV show. You can see Barrett (who refers to himself as a sports journo btw) reading of the script at the start of the segment.

And, as we know the whole basis of the segment - Ollie's subbing out - had nothing to do with covid or the vaccination and that was known well before that program aired.

Jesus. Have you ever watched this show? Would have thought Offsiders would have been more your cup of tea.

Yeah thats what I thought he said. That theyve gone up since the covid pandemic started. Massive difference between that and claiming that the increase is due to the boosters.

I dont think its scripted at all, but if it is then I agree with you on this one. Either way its idiotic for Lloyd to say cases have gone up as opposed to saying Ive seen more cases personally if there is no evidence to say cases have gone up.

Regardless though, the point Im making is that if you're gonna write an article that says "no evidence of increase", then give the before number, the after number, and the source. If the data doesnt exist then you have to basis to make a claim on evidence one way or another, if it does exist and you dont add it thats just lazy, useless journalism.

I dont think its scripted at all

All nationally broadcast TV shows are scripted regardless whether they are light hearted or news related - in that they have a producer and a prepared running sheet with discussion issues listed and set times for discussion between commercial breaks which is provided to each on air panellist to ensure their participation.

Apart from avoiding the risk of dead air it also ensures any potential legal issues are cleared before hand.

Making it look like a few guys just gathered around a tale chatting off the cuff is part of the professionalism of the production.

Regardless though, the point Im making
Yes I get your point and it is a good one that fits with your focus on accuracy of data in other threads.

But I just think it detracts from the main issue here about the lack of responsibility of a nationally broadcast strong rating TV show spreading crap that has no basis in fact.

Caro also said last night on Footy Classified that Ken Hinkley would get another gig at another club if Port let him go. I wouldn't take much notice of her opinions.
I think the Crows should sack Nicks, and appoint Hinkley.......

Gotta love Graham Cornes' article in yesterday's Sunday Mail, "CROWS FANS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO FEEL AGGRIEVED BY PHILLIPS' MOVE". Then the article begins like this, "Erin Phillips might not be easily forgiven for walking out on Adelaide - even if it is to reclaim some spiritual heritage. Port Adelaide has her, but remember, the Crows made her."

Graham you old fossil - please do the sporting world a huge favour, and announce your retirement, effective immediately.

Graham finally acknowledges that the SANFL and AFL Port Adelaide are the same club

Cornes has a chip on his shoulder because of his failed years with the Crowbots, it took Blight to show him how.

Ha ha lost the prelim after being 42 points up at half time.

In 1991, Cornes was appointed the inaugural senior coach of the Adelaide Football Club in their first year in the AFL. The Crows in its inaugural year under Cornes finished ninth at the end of 1991 season and ninth again at the end of the 1992 season. Cornes guided the Crows to their first finals appearance in 1993, where they finished third at the end of the 1993 season. They made it to the preliminary final against Essendon and led at half-time by 42 points. But inspired by the brilliance of Michael Long, the Bombers mounted an amazing comeback to win the game by 11 points. However, the Crows finished eleventh in 1994 and at the end of the season, Cornes was replaced by Robert Shaw because the club wanted a new coach.

And added Kerley made Glenelg a powerhouse football club.

When did that happen? I must have slept in that day.

PS. I'm seriously older than cornes but my memory isn't that bad.
