Roast Media Shakes Head, Part 8

Speaking of nepotism, this article discusses the likely/possible successors to the Browne throne - how about this one:

A left-field candidate could be Xander McGuire, the son of former Channel 9 boss Eddie.

Xander has been working part-time in the Ch 9 sports department over the past 12 months and there are many who are predicting he has a bright future in the media.

It might be good for him to get away from his father’s shadow at Nine and there is a parallel with Browne’s early career. He got a job at Seven when his father, Jeff, was the managing director of Channel 9.

Surprised he has room for the mic with the silver spoon in his hand.

This son is clearly the heir apparent. I think the other brother, who bears a startling resemblance to Darcy Moore, went off the rails a bit - maybe someone told him he bears a startling resemblance to Darcy Moore.

LEGAL SHOWDOWN

So, the Bond Bros want to sue the Power, the Crows, the SANFL and anyone they can in what is nothing more than a money grab. I would have thought they would have been proud to have their images on the Showdown trophy? Hopefully the issue can be resolved amicably but if not we settle out of court and remove the images from the trophy. Money, money and yet more money is all society is about these days.

Twenty five years ago footy administrators acted in good faith to capture a great moment in local sport now those involved, both of who were free to object at the time, want to cash in. I truly hope this story is a media beatup because if true it is a distasteful affair.

Hang on a minute.

The Bond brothers were not even asked if their picture could appear on the trophy - they were TOLD it would appear just a few days before the medal and shield were unveiled. They did not agree or authorise to their image being used in advertising and promotion for every showdown game held since. And no compensation of course - they are just expected to be honoured to have the privilege.

Like it or not, the AFL is a billion dollar national professional sporting competition where TV rights are worth $650m a year and where just about anyone even remotely associated with the game has their hand in the AFL commercial coffers. So how is the way the Bond Brothers treated just or fair?

And how does these two indigenous former players daring to exercise their legal right to a formal agreement and payment for past and ongoing use of their image rights 'not reflect well' on them?

Taylor Walker threatened to sue a shop for using his name on one of their hamburgers FFS.

Both the Crows and Port have agreed to meet with the Bond Brothers to discuss the issue as part of a mediation process btw.

It's a money grab. Pure and simple. I'd tell them to go * themselves and get a new trophy.
So trying to make money is a BAD thing now?

You conservatives must be so confused all the time.

As I posted there is an easy fix, pay these individuals what they are owed, remove the offending images and move on.

I wonder if Norm Provan or Arthur Summons ever asked for money?

iu
You've missed the point.

More relevant question- were they asked for consent BEFORE their image was used on that trophy?

The answer is YES they did and there was initially some pushback from both men on the use of their image. Consequently conditions were placed on how that trophy was to be used in promotions

Provan was a prominent non-smoker, and had been involved in anti-tobacco campaigns.

A deal was struck that at no time would he be associated with smoking, or the trophy linked with cigarettes.

Its called respect. A simple ask really.

Because you can bet your bottom dollar the photographer of the Bond brothers moment that was used in the trophy (former Advertiser employee Phil Hillyard) was asked for consent BEFORE it was used for the trophy.

Yeah but racist pieces of garbage like raptalia only think it's a 'money grab' when it's indigenous people doing it.

It is a money grab no matter who was doing it. It would be just as dimly viewed if it was a white person. Surely most people would see this an honour more than anything? In fact the cuckazoids immediately leap to their defence just because they are indigenous.

I would 100% assume it was about Port.

In fact I thought your first post on this was a sarcastic joke.

In the original post context I agreed with SteveO

But when you see the shitvertiser front page with the crows on it and PORT underneath that then yeah... They absolutely knew what they were soing

It has already been established that the AFL CBA at the time specifically stated all match related images of the players taken during their career are the property of the AFL to be used as they see fit

Otherwise every mug that get's their face on an AFL promo or add would be suing for loss of income

Just suck it up and be proud you'll be remembered for the right reasons
