The old rules are antiquated and will soon be updated.

So for now the rules are: If you act like a flog, you'll be treated like a flog. This means the flog gets flogged.

For everything else there's Master Card. Or the site rules.

Hi Posters

We have put together some updated board rules to expand on Crimson’s (which still apply) and clarify expectations for all who post here. Please read:

Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club board

1. Adhere to the BigFooty Community Rules

These rules apply to all of us across all discussion boards. You can access the terms of service and community rules here: Terms and rules

Please take a moment to read through, even if you have been a member for a long time, as the rules can be updated from time to time.

2. Melbourne Supporters

This board is primarily for the discussion of MFC related things by Melbourne supporters.

We enjoy a board with a diverse group of contributors and many different opinions. Debate is welcomed so long as people are treated with respect.

The abusing or undermining of any poster will not be tolerated. Play the ball and not the man (or woman) in conversation. Baiting posters and persistent antagonistic posting spoils enjoyment for all. Don’t do it. These behaviours can result in warnings, regular or serious infractions.

Posts that breach board or Bigfooty rules will be deleted, and depending on severity can also attract warnings, regular or serious infractions.

At any time when you are not happy with a post produced by another user, please do not escalate with public responses. Retaliation leads to extended and often personal fights. Use the “report” button and provide a reason for the report, or contact a Melbourne board moderator by private message and we will respond to your concern.

Stay on topic. Many posters visit particular threads to read the specific content around that topic. This is made difficult when discussion is persistently derailed. Mods may from time to time remove or relocate posts where this happens. Please remember there is a “random chat” thread where you can say whatever is on your mind (within reason, board rules and site rules).

Feel free to create new threads if you think there is a MFC topic not elsewhere covered that might attract interest or discussion. You can also start non-MFC threads on our “Hell” sub-board (i.e. politics, hobbies, entertainment etc.) If mods think your thread is covered elsewhere, we may merge the similar threads into one. If you are unsure about whether you should start a particular thread, or where it should be located, contact one or all of the board moderators and we will help.

Remember always that everyone is different and we’re not all at our best all of the time. Banter can be fun, but can also be misinterpreted as abuse. People in our community are generally tolerant, understanding and helpful - if you feel comfortable doing so you can always privately contact a poster about anything said that bothers you. The same rules apply in conversation as elsewhere. No abuse. Be considerate and respectful.

Don‘t forget the ignore function. If you would prefer not to read posts by another Bigfooty user, use it and that users content will be hidden from your view. You can’t ignore users who are current moderators though - as this would hide notices and updates that all users need to see.

3. Opposition supporters

The Melbourne Board absolutely welcomes other team supporters at all times, and visitors like all of us must remain respectful of others at all times.

It is important for visitors to understand that the board is primarily for Melbourne supporters. Non-constructive posting, general trolling, or baiting Melbourne supporters will see your removal quickly and may result in a board ban. Repeat offences, injury trolling or personal abuse may also result in a regular or serious infraction.

An opposition poster who thinks they are being baited or subject to unwanted tagging from a Melbourne poster on our board can contact the Melbourne mod team and we will respond to your concern.

4. Moderation

Do not discuss moderator actions on any public board. Moderator actions include deleting posts, editing posts, warnings and infractions.

If you think a moderator action is wrong, unreasonable, or disproportionate, you can contact the moderator to discuss. If for any reason you don’t want to discuss that moderators action with its author you can also contact a Super Moderator or Administrator.

This rule applies to all moderator actions. Don’t use the Melbourne Board to discuss issues with moderators that occurred elsewhere on Bigfooty. Take your issue directly to that mod, a Super Moderator or Administrator.

Some posters have expressed that raising issues with the moderator / administrator is pointless and you won’t be listened to. This is not the case. Your issue will be considered and there are many instances where a mod decision has been changed, downgraded or removed. Moderators are people too who can sometimes get tired or cranky, and can be dealing with a high volume of posts at certain times. If you genuinely believe a mistake has been made, raise it.

5. What else?

Enjoy your time on the board as a member of our Bigfooty Melbourne Football Club community!

This Board is one of the most enjoyable and engaging forums on this or any discussion site in the world, and we value your support, good humour and company.

If you need anything from us, or have suggestions or feedback, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Hi all,

Please read this post on BigFooty's Terms of Use regarding posting copyright material such as news articles:

Copyright Material

As publishers of your posts, please be aware that you could be held liable should you post material belonging to a third party.

Fair dealing in many jurisdictions allows for a small amount of a work to be reproduced for a number of purposes, including parody/satire and criticism or review.

BigFooty terms of use forbid posting material that may be considered a copyright infringement:

No illegal content; respect copyright owners.
  • No hacks, torrents, file swapping, or requesting of same from us or other users.
  • No illegal match video or audio streams, or requesting of same from us or other users.
  • Articles from other sites should be limited to a relevant paragraph or two and a link to the source.
Terms Of Service | Big Interest Group

15. Copyright and trade mark policies

15.1 It is Big Interest Group’s policy to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable international intellectual property law (including, in the United States, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act) and to terminating the accounts of repeat infringers.

TL;DR: Material that is reported as infringing a third party's copyright will continue to be removed. Repeat infringements will continue to see members have their access limited or permanently removed. Members should check their posts for content they believe or know to infringe the ownership rights of others. People who believe their rights have been infringed should report the content with the Report Post button, or via the site contact form.
