Just noticed on our website that we are at 6893 members and are anticipating 10k by christmas.

What were we last year? 2500? :p

I am no chance to win the car now...

This is fantastic I wonder what the comparisons are to other clubs at the moment?

We will sign up quite a few more at Sundays cricket match. There should be targets at the game for example for every 4 runs scored a membership must be bought by the bowling side. Also have targets around the ground and if 1 is hit that's 100 memberships to give out to local schools. Just a thought.

Essendon are 16,000-17,000 at the moment, should be 20,000-22,000 by Christmas comfortably.

Western Bulldogs are at 14,000 can you believe it. Only a few years ago we were about evens. We have to lift our game and I'm sure with JB in charge we'll focus on getting everyone back as PAID MEMBERS. The Bulldogs SEE their ground being rebuilt and I believe we need Arden St. redevelopment to start as ASAP for the belief to sink in and believe, "we are here for the long term buddy".

Other clubs have had an auto-renewal as an option for a while, it has only been available to us as of this year. The club needs to educate the supporters into getting memberships early and get out of the habbit of getting them when the season starts.

I personally have done the auto-renewal and thought the best xmas present I could give to anyone was a membership which I have done. Hope others think a membership is a great pressie also.

I, like most members, chose not to utilise this option until the club had made a decision. I am sure in future our auto-renew numbers will be significantly higher. I still got my 2008 membership when it was available but didn't want to give the impression to the club had my unconditional support no matter what decision they made, because they didn't. If they chose to move I would not help fund it.

I'm a well paid up member for well over 20 years. I bought the memberships for the xmas pressies only AFTER yesterday. Interesting what you say though as figures are inclusive of auto-renewal, I hadn't thought about that. Dare to say people may opt to cancel and the true number will not be realised until cut off date next year.

This has been one of our problems in recent years. I renew every year pre christmas but would never tick the auto renewal box as i didn't want to send a message of unconditional support. We have around 2,500 auto members whereas other Clubs have around 10,000.

Our highest membership by the 1st week of Jan is around 7,900. With last night we should smash 10k and hopefully get to 12k+.

Bear in mind our campaign started a lot later than everyone else's, because we didn't actually know how many games we could sell until the fixture came out. Most clubs have got at least 4 weeks jump on us. And no threat of relocation to compromise their campaign.

6,800 is an amazing figure - will be interesting to see what it has jumped to next week

I'll be doing my bit and signing up myself and my daughter next week instead of doing it in the new year.

And in late January, I'll be making the quick dash from the hospital to Arden Street to sign up my next child.

The missus will sign up too.

6,800 members aye. I'd say 6000 of those are members are from the other 15 clubs. Well done!

From the hospital bed?

How does a Melbourne fan develop a superiority complex?
Hard to imagine.

Through realisation that if all opposition supporters can throw at us are 'snow jokes' and 'voted your club out of existence' barbs they obviously are inferior to us, therefore in time will be rendered irrelevant by the evoloutionary process.

It is just a matter of time before our club will overcome the ferals

Natural selection is the process by which favorable traits that are heritable become more common in successive generations of a population of reproducing organisms, and unfavorable traits that are heritable become less common. Natural selection acts on the phenotype, or the observable characteristics of an organism, such that individuals with favorable phenotypes are more likely to survive and reproduce than those with less favorable phenotypes. If these phenotypes have a genetic basis, then the genotype associated with the favorable phenotype will increase in frequency in the next generation. Over time, this process can result in adaptations that specialize organisms for particular ecological niches and may eventually result in the emergence of new species.

Between 1842 and 1844, Charles Darwin outlined his theory of evolution by natural selection as an explanation for adaptation and speciation. He defined natural selection as the "principle by which each slight variation [of a trait], if useful, is preserved". The concept was simple but powerful: individuals best adapted to their environments are more likely to survive and reproduce. As long as there is some variation between them, there will be an inevitable selection of individuals with the most advantageous variations. If the variations are inherited, then differential reproductive success will lead to a progressive evolution of particular populations of a species, and populations that evolve to be sufficiently different might eventually become different species.

That's a great effort, especially for us. We historically sign up late. But as we've learnt over the last few weeks, history MUST change.

There will be a big surge this coming week. Much as we might not like it, a lot of people would NOT have signed up until we committed to Melbourne.

Take a deep breath people. We're about to find out just how much support we actually have.

Only $58.18 per installment (11) for a 14 game Schimma Platinum Membership if you go via the kangaroos website.

You get a Kangaroos for Life payment plan for your credit card. Got an email confirmation it will be charged of the 21st of every month. It was pretty slick.

I just spoke to Cathy from the Shinboner Spirit group and she has told me that the club is running hot with memberships renewals. Non stop supporters signing up.

We have surpassed 7000+ and now heading to 8k. We will break this 10k record before Xmas.
