Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott - Will appear on AFL360 coaches night on Monday 24th

He has done, or been involved, in ridding a lot of the cancer the club has held onto for 25+ years.

As each week goes on, I strongly doubt he will be the coach that takes us to a flag. But I believe he will hand the keys to someone that will.
this needed to be the approach to the Brad Scott appointment. He may not be the finished product coach but one strong enough to change the machinations of toxicity entrenched in this football club

The fact Dodoro has been removed, Sheedy has had a zipper applied, some form of stability in the boardroom bodes well in my book. The on field stuff can finally start to take care of itself

Was there honestly, truly no one on the board at Essendon that thought "maybe we shouldn't recruit so many members from a basket case club like North?"
Mediocrity breeds mediocrity. This club has a disease and it needs eradicating.
They were not all exclusive to North. Several have been at premiership wing clubs as well.

this is a fairly accurate summation of how im reading it too.

The nuffies cant accept that Scott walked into a cluster * and was hopelessly over sold where the list was at. After 20 months have now worked out we are a fair way off so rather than coming out and saying "we're rebuilding" need to be political and pragmatic about how we present it.

On one hand it could end the way you suggest, on the other, would the masses actually accept one (two) steps back to finally take a step forward and into the upper echelon?
Which is why the list has been turned over massively over the last three years and why this off season maybe the last of the great purge.

Shiel, Setterfield, Laverde, Goldstein, Menzie are all delisted or retired at seasons end.

Parish, Hobbs, Cox, Wright and maybe Tsatas (which I don’t believe should be on the block) will be all shopped around.

Let’s say Hobbs and Cox leave in the offseason, that’s 30 players from our 2022 playing list that are gone. That is massive. That is as close to a rebuild as you can get without saying rebuild.

So, when it comes down to it, if people want the tough calls to be made, you’re already late. They are being done as we speak. People were saying Richmond loaded up in the draft, but we also did just that. We will load up again this year. If Rosa nails two top 10 picks and the end of this year, the tunnel has light.

Not sure young implies you cant apply pressure.
When you are young you apply more. You chase harder. Youthful exuberance.
Young or not you also have a smart footy brain or you don't.
The only out for a younger guy is strength imo.

Yep. Strangely enough, all draftees are young and can put on muscle with few exceptions (Marty Gleeson comes to mind).

Whether they apply pressure or are exuberant with a smart footy brain are things we could/should be recruiting for and enhancing through training.

Judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, etc

Youth & inexperience often leads to players over thinking rather than playing on instinct. You often hear how “the game slows down” when a player gets to a certain point in their career - we don’t have enough players who have that right now and it shows through rushed kicks, fumbling, going to ground and getting caught ball watching.
They also can drop their heads and lose confidence quickly which happened yesterday.
That’s the biggest factor IMO

All these excuses are right out of the Andy McGrath playbook, we overate our list and keep playing the same spuds week in week out.

I'd rather Scott drop a few players to send a message that these performances are unexceptable and won't be tolerated.

If yesterday is any guide it won't be long before a lot of supporters start voting with their feet and not show up, there was alot that left early yesterday and the comments after the game were savage towards the players and club.

I never said any of that. But after 2 years we need to see at least some improvement, not just all regression. Our list was garbage 2 years ago, it has not all of a sudden become crap now.

my point is extending him was of utter stupidity. Has done not a thing to warrant it.
The draft / trade period was already a done deal when he first arrived. That was when we broughf in Tsatas. He cobbled together a pre-season plan without knowing the list and openly said he would spend the year getting to know the list. In his second year, when he did know more about us, he lamented our lack of professionalism on and off the field and also acknowledged our dearth of leadership. He also was apparently led to believe by some of the Sheedy-Hird-Dodoro faction that the players we had were good enough. Meanwhile, by speaking truth to power with the arrival of Vozzo, some of those divisive bath water drinking elements behind the scenes were gotten rid of.

The mountain of shit has always been there and it had been accumulating culturally for 20 years.

Now with some clean air he's in a position to set the standards he wants and turn the list over unimpeded.

I don't disagree that he shouldn't have been extended. I voiced my dissatisfaction with this from the start. But you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Yes he has a mountain of shit to deal with, but with the cattle he has and the standards of the senior players he has, the shit mountain will take time.

It is why the Draper for 6 years is not signed and it will be why a few of the players on longer term deals will be shopped around at the end of the season.
Can you name who will be shopped around? We have pretty much signed them all up in the last few years. Why would the club suddenly have a change of heart and decide to shop them around? Its a bad look imo,

And I heard Drapers contract extension is all but done, will be announced in the coming months. 5 or 6 years

Presumably because they've twigged that Parish and McGrath aren't the A grade players deserving of a long term contract that we thought they were.

It's called context. The comparison isn't borne out of a desire to be like them but to illustrate the inexperience of the selected side.
Not to mention the loss of our best key forward and back for the Adelaide game. Yeh it’s excuses, but any logical punter would have had Adelaide winning comfortably.

Thing for me is apart from Merrett, Caldwell & Durham, name me 1 player that has improved during their time here? Most have gone backwards. Perkins, Jones, Cox, Hobbs to name a few.

Perkins was better in his first year.

Who are our development coaches? Forget Reid, target whoever id development coach at Geelong.

As I have said before, I pity the players that we bring in because their peers are better instructed, developed and coached at other AFL clubs. We would've been the last place you would want to go to.
But I hope that this has recently changed. Time wilĺ tell, but certainly Cox, Reid, Perkins, Redman, McGrath have been EFC victims. There are plenty more.
