However you also have someone’s gender. Now often they match but in some cases they don’t. When you start talking about men and women it’s their gender you are talking about.

Unless you are intimate with someone or their doctor knowing someone’s sex is unimportant.

Its confusing though, and I love a bit of certainty. I think most people do, that's why we love "the God Book says" or "Scientists say".

Beware of the nitwits peddling The Truth, generally they're up to something.

There's an idea of a man and a woman and its got great cultural currency: most cultures and languages have words to describe the two, although plenty have some extra terms too, because reality is more complicated than either or.

We all "know" what they mean, except the meanings fall apart under the microscope, and that's unsettling.

I'm one sort of feminist, and by extension not in complete agreement some other sorts. Out of politeness I stay a bit quiet though, lot of blokes have told a lot of women who and what they are. I just try to work toward my goals.

Sometimes the new language is screwed. My step daughter told me some nonsense about "racism being power plus p[roivelige" or some claptrap. As a Collingwood supporter I know a bit about racism and it ain't that. To her credit after a year or two she mentioned how she thought the current state of US politics was contrived and she wasn't sure of the motives of all the players in the debate. I reckon she'll be ok.
