Not sure how anyone can defend Mick atm. Sure the players are crap and look like they're done trying. But Mick is coaching pretty awfully - just mind-boggling tactics and selections.

Does he not watch other games? We play slow, boundary line footy. Nobody plays like this, nobody. The top teams don't and the bottom teams don't, so why the **** do we? It hasn't worked since you left Collingwood and spent a year out of the game Mick - accept it. Several taggers? Just gives players a negative mindset and terrified to leave their opponent and apply no pressure. It's exactly how Melbourne played under Neeld.

Smith has shown nothing as a player. Why is he being gifted games ahead of Graham who has spent the best part of 2 years tearing up the 2s? Nothing more demoralizing as a player and sometimes a team when unfair shit like this happens. Really hope Graham sticks around too, but wouldn't blame him if he doesn't.

Micks built teams and has a track record, doesn't mean he can do it again with Carlton.

Remember when MM played Bootsma on JR?

Masterful coaching.

I remember thinking at the time of Mick's appointment that he was keen to keep coaching because his ego was hurt and he wanted to show Bucks.

Well Bucks has shown him instead, again and again, and his ego must have more dents in it than a golf ball.

I think its pointless to even debate any more whether he is the right man for the job. Today's game was the coach killer of coach killers.

Only a miracle will see him coaching next year now.

We have made some pretty poor decisions in search of the quick fix. Not sure when it will dawn on the club we are not back in the 80s/90s.

Who's accountable for these bad decisions?

Carlton will be talking to assistant coach's managers tonight to gauge interest. Mick will coach out the year, I have very little doubt about that (unless he walks away himself)...but short of us winning 60% of the rest of the games for the year, we'll have someone new next year.

Malthouse goes, Wiley will probably follow his friend out the door.
Buttifant needs to go, our fitness is shocking since hes come in.
Green, Osborne, Capuano, and even Webster i think should go.
And for **** sake can someone please escort Barker out the door! I pray this will be the year.

When selecting coach, we need to think long and hard.
Bring in a untried coach (tudor, dew, basset) then bring in some quality assistants around him (McKenna)
Bring in a new fitness coach.
I know it is a completely different game and transfers play a part but...A few seasons ago Juventus were smack bang in the middle of mediocrity, buying shit players, a string of shit coaches...We brought in a former club legend as coach, a man that wasn't overly tried and tested but had a crazy good mentality, a warriors mentality. He was the catalyst for our rise to the top. Where am I going with this? Well the next carlton coach should be a younger man who can completely command and bust the ass of this team. Mentality is the biggest factor. We need a modern coach that has a clear gameplan and can adapt to his players. Even if we lose as long as we show we are going somewhere.

We all should've seen this coming. But we're all optimists hoping for improvement I suppose.
Whiley & Jaksch couldn't get a game with GWS.
Jones & Tutt likewise with the Bullies.
Yet here we were before the season on forums such as this convincing ourselves they were the answer.
Early days I know but Jaksch looks completely out of his depth. His decision making is poor, he lacks composure & hasn't the skills to execute the most basic of tasks.
Remember after three rounds in 2012 we were premiership favourites. Sorry but across the whole list the players simply don't look interested. They play with no flair or risk because they know they can't hit targets 20 metres away. Is that the coaches fault though?
I keep telling myself we need to follow the clubs direction & don't need to be militant & sack coaches like we did 20-30 years ago. But hell when I think about it well it worked. Such were our standards in 1985 David Parkin was sacked because we came a lowly 5th in a 12 team comp. Came back & coached our last premiership 10 years later. But change is imminent, it's in the clubs DNA. If we do sack MM who replaces him. Seems most of us have little time for those close to Mick as well. Barker, Green & Capuano were ordinary footballers but hey so were Luke Beveridge, Ken Hinckley & Al Clarkson.
I'm totally bereft of ideas here & bitterly disappointed at what the team are dishing up. Something needs to change. We can't drift along like this.

My first few comment's on BF were about why Walker was in the team or on our list, tonight couldn't have proved me more right, he was not the only 1 but I thought he was the worst by far and that's saying something...

The most sickening part is that he's signed to the end of 2017.

Everything Barker touches turns to shit regardless of personal.

Mick loves him though. Capuano failed as a ruck coach. Brad Green was an extremely weak captain for Melbourne ( forward line/midfield coach )

Whiley hadn't coached in over a decade ( development coach)

I'd piss off the whole lot of them.
Yes.

Should let Mick coach out the year, we can used the money saved from not paying out his contract to purge the proven failures around him.

I posted this in the tactics thread too:

Our issues are at least 50% structure/tactics. This has been evident every week, but hilighted today especially.

We dominated the centre clearances for 90% of the match. We won the majority of disputed, hard ball for the match. We were not outbodied or outmarked.

However, tactically, other than our clearance setup - we are shot! (And this is probably more to do with Cripps/Judd's ball-winning ability than structures).

  • We consistently kick it to their lose man in defence.
  • There are no runners providing link-up play, to actually create opportunities up field.
  • We are unable to go coast to coast, instead we stagnate, stop and prop, kick wide to a contest and create another stoppage.
  • Yet, even Brisbane, shitty shitty Brisbane, were able to repeatedly slingshot from defence to create goals, to go coast-to-coast, to create opportunities for a forward to take a mark on the lead, rather than a contested mark amoung 35 other players.
  • Our defenders don't talk, they run into each others space, run into each other, don't block for each other running out, don't know whose job it is to touch the ball on the opposition goal line.
  • We still play 10 players in tagging or defensive roles every game.
  • We do not have a fastbreak game plan, as evidenced when TOmmy Bell won the ball and started to stream forward, only to look up to see 2 Brisbane Players and no-one running for him or providing a target.
This is probably part-emotional, but I have finally lost faith in Mick's ability as a tactical coach. Further, I have believed since 2011 that Barker has his own verison of the midas touch - "everything he touches, turns to sh1t". I would donate to a petition/fundraiser to payout his contract and make sure he never sets foot within 2 km of our football club ever again.

Please don't knock a kids ability on early career form. It's Whiley's 2nd game after an injury interrupted preseason and he was alright if you have realistic expectations. Jaksch is a skinny KPD who was drafted as a KPF and played on Leuey today. You can't expect him to be a world beater, or even an average player at this point in his career. Wouldn't expect him to be a consistent contributor until he's 22 or 23. Give a bad wrap to a bloke like Jones who should be at the peak of his powers, but seriously, the kids should be near untouchable at the moment. They need time and support

Whoever signs off on the appointment of the senior coach , CEO and those senior positions. I would have thought that is the domain of the Board.

I recall Sticks saying, at the time Ratten was sacked, it was a touch and go call and it was only MM was available they moved on Ratten. Clearly the Board believed we were only a top-up player and a quality coach away from contending, no talk of a rebuild when MM was appointed.

I agree. The first possession from congestion should RARELY be a kick in hope. Shoot out a handball to a man in space. Not only does it mean the kick is going to be under less pressure, but it also gives the players up the ground time to see we have won a clearance and get into a position to win the ball that comes their way. At the moment the ball is bombed long to a 50/50 where players are flat footed. A change needs to be made there for sure.

Pretty certain now MM won't be coach in 2016.

A loss like today's would result in most coaches getting the axe, MM will most likely hang on till the end of year cause of his reputation.

Chances are they'll put out a joint statement around rnd 11 saying he'll coach out the year and help with finding a replacement.
It'll be spun as some type of transition plan

I know it's the Board, but when are they going to be held accountable? Never

Whoever does take over needs to cut deep into the list, way too many passengers.

And some 'name' players will need to be off-loaded, time to take some risks

I'm probably a bit harsh on the kid but I'd take "average" from not just him but a number of players right now. Let's blame MM for pitting Whiley against firstly Pendlebury then Beams in his first two games with the club. I'll take your lead & hold fire on him for the time being. As for Jones, we all thought he'd be third fiddle in our forward line which might have suited better, but he's not up to it either.

I still hold out hope that we'll get Henderson and Casboult in the team playing good footy and Jones will actually get the chance to be 3rd fiddle. It just seems like MM is convinced he can be the main man. It may be a 2016 thing, but if they get better ball movement and they are more in sync with each other...I still believe he could be something.
