I would love to understand what led to Jed being selected in the mid season draft in the first place, who scouted him and said yes I want more of that.

I honestly suspect he was just friends with the right people or something. The whole situation is weird.

This bloke is in the team for his pressure. First thing he does in the showdown is fall over as he gets within a metre of his opponent, I think it was Hinge, who just waltzed out of defence. Brings absolutely nothing to the team, is not up to standard and should never play again. I don't care if they're not ready, but give his spot to one of the kids because at least they'll probably get better

Rioli has been good. Happy with what he produces offensively. Need someone with a little more pace to compliment him as well.

The Hinkley cult has brainwashed even his biggest critics into believing you need 22 All Australians to compete and that you can't have a functioning team that includes role players with a limited skill set being coached to play that role. Oh and these people also believe you need All Australian players as depth too. So we need about 4 Riolis.

I don't think we can blame Jed, as if he's not trying. He's trying, he's just a limited footballer playing a role that isn't natural to him.

This. I have nothing against McEntree the person. I'm sure he's doing his absolute best every game he plays. He's just not an AFL standard footballer. The issue is that he keeps getting selected in the side. After being dropped he is straight back in despite Finlayson also being available and overlooked. Those people defending Hinkley by saying he hasn't got the cattle to be competitive need to take a closer look at some of his selection decisions.

Lots of teams have picked mids and played them as forwards. Close, McCreery, petrucelli, etc etc. Most aren’t perfect and do an adequate/average job.

What sets all of those players apart from Jed?

Just on Jake Neade because they played the same role and were ostensibly in the team for the same reason. Here's their comparison between Jed's 2024 and Neade's final season where he had zero impact and we couldn't believe he hadn't been dropped for weeks on end:

It's not even his fault really. He doesn't pick himself. But he clearly isn't up to it and shouldn't be in the team. Fair enough the coaches will defend their player, but just don't pick him.

That period a third of the way through last year where he was getting 10-12 touches and at least a goal a game and looked like he'd worked it out was good, but he's been a disaster ever since.

You look at someone like Beau McReery who's probably a decent comparison for Jed. Doesn't get a lot of the ball but takes his opportunities when he does get it, chases hard (actual chases), lays tackles and has a scoreboard impact either himself or by dishing off to others. That's what Jed should be but is miles away from it and you'd doubt he'd ever get to even that level.

I just don’t get it.
Jed is what Paul Keating described as a low flyer.
I used to play fwd pocket so am particularly critical of small fwds in general. I recall kicking 3 in my third game & telling my old man & he said you should be kicking minimum 1-2 a game by virtue of the fact you are up there close to goal, you could set up a deck chair in the goal square & get 2 over the top every game.
Should start a countdown timer to Jed’s next goal because I don’t recall the last time he kicked one

I would pick anasta or Charleson in a heart beat, desperately need some pace, legspeed & a bit of goal sense up there asap.
They couldn’t play worse & both have upside.
I have noticed these mid season picks must be Hinkleys personal picks, like teakle, so personal pride is a big factor with persisting with them when it is clear as day to anyone with a brain that they shouldn’t be playing

For god’s sake- Why Jed was selected and what we tried to turn him into (like Gray and stupidly to Boak) has been covered endlessly. As people have noted, not his fault. Would make an excellent midfielder though.
