Short on midfielders. Now I've really heard it all.
We are using precious development time in the SANFL putting games into Narkle and 2 SANFL players in the middle, and Clurey on one of the wings.

Shut down the reserves side forever if we are going to get thumped for little benefit.

Agree, we might not be low on quality but we are a few midfielders short of what would be an optimum list balance. And that’s including 35yr old Boak.

picking at 12, there’s never been anyone remotely worth taking in any of the mid year drafts around that range before.

if we take anyone they better only be on the short contract.
Narkle at 11 and McEntee at 13 were awesome pick ups…

But pick 12 itself has a total of zero AFL games in its history.

OMG - they are in for a surprise if they think he's Frampton level spud.
Oh I agree. He’s something special. Just not in the way they think.

I watched him in the WAFL game. Beaten by Amos Doyle, a State League player not even first choice ruck and had some horrible decision making whereby he almost appeared to be playing for the SANFL.

I'd literally remove Port from the sanfl league competition next year regardless of there being a AFL reserves side or not.

You could play them in the sanfl reserves comp or amateur league. They are not set up to be competitive at sanfl level.

They need to play at a level their bottom dozen players are actually competitive at.

Harry Boyd and Will Snelling have not nominated for tonight's draft. A win for SANFL.

If Snelling could play AFL he'd still be at the Bombers. They love him over there but he's not quick enough anymore.

The recent wins over the vfl and the wafl could suggest the sanfl is a much stronger comp than some on here want to accept, and I'm definitely in favour of leaving it for a national reserve's comp when that eventually happens, but apparently it is still some years away.

These current and all too regular smashings can't be doing the development of draftees much good at all, eg Walsh who was drafted from an under 18's state comp having to go straight into a much stronger competition against men 4 or 5 years older, and then having to watch the ball sail over his head for multiple oppo goals week after week because the Maggie's midfield is getting creamed.

In the past blokes like him would have had a solid grounding at ressie's level for at least a couple of years before getting anywhere near league level, both of Greg Phillips and Martin Leslie played reserve's footy before becoming league and state regulars, but even so I'm not keen on the club dropping to the magoos or the ammos to be more competitive, as doing something about the restrictive rules on top up players could be just as effective.

Both local afl clubs are obviously hamstrung by those rules, as soon as either finds a diamond in the rough a nord, sturt or glenelg can offer them 3 or 4 times more than Port or the tingles are allowed, so changing those rules would be a good start towards being more competitive, but it could require both clubs coming together off field for a common cause, and that is probably unlikely.

In the meantime, as discussed with a mate yesterday who has also been a Port supporter for many decades, this would be far from ideal either but having the magoos play in the Power strip and being called the Power reserves would be more palatable than seeing the Maggies and the PB's trashed week after week, and I suspect it's unlikely that even when a national reserve's comp eventuates that team will be allowed to wear the PB's on a regular basis anyway!

Well if you listened to the Collingwood board, you’d think Teakle was an AA ruckman who could play Friday night.
In before Teakle gets picked by Collingwood, and goes on to play in their magnificent, come-from-behind, one-point, win in the 2024 grand final ... Becoming the next spud, in a long line of spuds, that has won a premiership medallion at Collingwood!

He has absolutely no chance.. not even collingwood could turn him around.

He’s beyond bad..

It's fun seeing different names but I know when it comes to our turn it will be Logan Evans, and oh well.

Not that I mind Logan Evans, it's just been my expectation since the season began.

Pick someone who isn't going to feature at AFL level, and is already playing in our SANFL team so doesn't strengthen the reserves at all.

Yup sounds about right.

Meh I still think Teakle is rated really harshly on here.

The problem was we took a bloke that should have been trying to cement his spot in the SNAFL side, and looking to develop in to an AFL player in 2026/2027... and instead just threw him in to an AFL side with far better options available.

Its not Brynns fault that our coaches and selection committee are completely incompetent.
