Re: Millewa Football League

Who's going to win this weekend gentlemen? Will the wet weather have any effect on results?

Werrimull & Gol Gol still will win handsomely both by 10 goals+, Bambill should win comfortably but if the weather hangs around, it will help Cardross keep it close. One things for sure Meringur will get their first points!!

Cardross will go very close in the wet, They would have loved to play a scrappy game in the wet at home.

Why has the game been moved to the lake????

The game is at the lake due to renovations at the Cardross rooms. A lot of outs at Cardy this week, up against a very strong Bambill outfit, should be a physical game in the wet.
How does the lake oval cope with rain, tell me it's not a mud pit?!

Will be a bit soft but not too bad.

Re: Millewa Football League

A Cardross player went back with the flight of the ball and collided with Benny. It's an odd one, usually the guy going with the flight of the ball is injured not the guy standing his ground...... i actually thought a free kick was warranted to the Cardy player!
A real shame that he has been so seriously injured as it is sounds alot more serious than football terms.

Word is he lost a kdney and his spleen. Been in ICU for over a week but starting to come good. Great bloke great family all the best to him.:)

Re: Millewa Football League

Whats the go with the interleauge this year. Have heard if you give them a crap excuse for not playing you may be suspended?

Im sick already hearing about the outs for Cardy.
Undermaned in the very first game, replaced by players that havent ran since december.
You would think with what the club has gone through and that after being in a grand final last year they would be ready.
Looks again that they have alot of players out this week.
No good enough Lions.
Bam(dollar)bills will set up the only structure they know(the wall accross half back) and stop Cardy from bringing the ball out of defence.

What relevance does the clubs history have, you can't help injuries rocket, if their not fit they can't play, simple as that.

Yes this may be the case! All players invited have recieved a letter & will be required to have a written explaination as to why they can not play. Players over the age of 33 are given the choice of not playing without this written explanation.

Will the rooms at Cardross be ready at all this season? Have heard they are having trouble with the planning dept at council.

Re: Millewa Football League

when a club has been down and out for so many years and finally start to show something to supporters (and sponsers) I would think they would be pushing very hard to continue the good run.

Injuries cant be helped but not being ready for your first game of the season is inexcusable

What makes you say they weren't ready for the start of the season?

I heard they were dismantling the rooms and come across asbestos. You have to be pretty careful with that stuff. They may have to look at getting a portable hut or something? I know home ground advantage isn't huge but it'd still be great for them to play out there in front of the old faithful. I know I hate playing at Cardy for just that reason.

from what i over heard from the players, while i was at the game.
Regular top players were not playing due to reasons that seemed to range from injury, to not being avaliable for other reasons.(going away on trips)
And I heard they were struggling for numbers right up to game day for a full team.
This is what makes me say they werent ready for the first game.

I went down to hopefully watch a good game from the teams that played in last years final.
With golly being talked about here as not having a full team this year, i thought Cardy will give them a shake.

I was disapointed that cardy didnt set themselves for that game.

Again injury and unavailability due to work committments is acceptable not much you can do about that you have to pay the bills.

As far as the game went fair point you were disapointed as it was expected to be much closer then it was and should have been for the matter. I have no doubt next time it will be a cracker of a game, much closer, more physical and alot more skillfull.(provided injuries and work don't get in the way)

not to get into a love fest with Cardy in this thread but if you have work commitments on a saturday arvo and cant make arrangments for the first match on the season, then why play football at all if you havent got the time?
Anyway, Ive said enough about Cardy.
I hope they have a good year

leaving the run a bit late skeeterman to get out to the lake today?
Or are you injured?

How did the ground hold up Skeeterman?

Re: Millewa Football League

It held up pretty well actually. It was very heavy and spongey but not a mud pit which is good. It coped a lot better then most SFL grounds do. Would have preffered a mud pit in the end, may have kept the scores down a bit.

Re: Millewa Football League

I think that all the Millewa grounds hold up a lot better in the inclement whether a heap better than the SFL grounds, proberly due to only about 2 dozen people running around on them during the week (Tues/Thurs) and being played on every second week. Also the Lake ovals cope better because they don't get used for training either.I think that Meringur train in town these days?

Yeah they train out at Merbein's Chaffey Park. The front oval at the lake may look even better seeing that Bambill are bringing their home games into the Senior College.
