Cool article on the Vikings opening game offensive plan, well worth a read.

The Kubiak/Stefanski offensive partnership has brought all kind of rewards this year and has turned Cousins into a genuine game winner. Keeping both Kubiak (pretty easy I think) and Stefanski (will be difficult) is the key for continued success IMO.

I'd even consider getting rid of Zimmer and promoting Stefanski if it came down to keeping or losing Stefanski. I wonder if the Vikings could get away with promoting Stefanski to head coach, and keeping Kubiak as assistant head coach/offensive advisor and Zimmer as defensive advisor.

Ah man.

Could only watch bits and pieces of the second-half after getting to work, cant wait to watch the full replay.

Feels good to upset the whingers in their house.

Don't mean to be a downer after a great victory, but thoughts on Diggs behaviour Vikings fans?

Obviously would rather him not be so 'publically passionate' but until it manifiests into something that either forces Kirk into mistakes or the offence into negative plays to appease him you've just got to ride with it and chalk it upto another diva WR fluffing about making himself look like abit of a campaigner.

Don't really need to go into what he means to the offence and overall game plan, just hope he continues to put performances on the field that make it easier to look past for Vikes fans.

Also in regards to mocking Payton, indeed not a classy move, but he's earned it.

I have no problem with Diggs' behavior at all. He wears his heart on his sleeve and always plays to win. Diggs has never been accused of taking plays off or being half hearted about his game, all the guy wants to do is win. I bet he'll have a great game against the 49ers next week.

If you think about it, Thielen was probably the player with the least amount of recent game tape and therefore the easiest player to target this week, next week could easily see Diggs being featured.

Yea fair enough. I was more looking at it from Kirk's pov, it felt like Diggs was just making his life harder out there when watching the game. Kirk was just trying to making the best decisions possible. Not target whoever in particular.

But he's a big boy, getting paid big boy money. These are the types of things you have to deal with as a qb I suppose.

The rivalry between the Vikings and Saints is very real. You could argue the Saints got the most out of their only post season win against the Vikings because they went on to win the title in 2010, but I can assure you the wins this year and in 2018 (Minneapolis Miracle Game) were sweet. By my count the Vikings are now 4-1 against the Saints in the post-season.

You sure you want Stefanski that much??

He really doesnt come across as innovative or creative. In todays game he ran the same unbalanced toss over and over and it wasnt that successful, but when the Saints took it away completely his play-calling seemed lost, like he didnt have much else.

And hes too into Analytics as a play-caller which would make him predictable to read as an opposing coach looking at the same analytics.

It's very likely now that Stefanski will go and Zimmer will be re-signed. Zimmer's defensive game plan against the Saints was a thing of beauty and it probably bought him a contract extension. The only reason rumours were floating about Zimmer leaving was the friendship that Zimmer has with Jerry Jones and therefore a possible promotion for Stefanski was floated.

Stefanski's success is heavily influenced by Kubiak and his crew of assistants (Rick Dennison OL, Brian Pariani (TEs), Klint Kubiak (QBs)), so the main thing will be to retain Kubiak and co rather than Stefanski. It's possible that Klint Kubiak could be promoted to retain some consistency in the play calling if Stefanski goes. In my opinion Stefanski should stay, because he won't have the same situation at another team, but that's not how it works in the NFL. Stefanski will want his shot as a Head Coach and no-one in the same position would knock back the opportunity (except Josh McDaniels)

The Vikings have lost a steady stream of offensive coordinators recently, some due to poor performance (Norv Turner in 2016 and DeFilippo in 2018) with Pat Shurmur also leaving in 2017 to take the HC role at the Giants. Stefanski leaving would just add to the changes at that position. Losing your OC is always on the cards when you have a defensive HC (like Zimmer) and a well performing team.

zimmers the crown jewel, wouldnt wanna lose him.

think you can do better than stefanski if he doesnt improve in 2020
I agree, Zimmer is much more than a head coach.

He has coached up so many players, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, to the point where they become top 5 players in the league. Not many outside of the Vikings would even know who Anthony Harris is, but he's the highest rated safety in the league this year (by PFF), not bad for someone who was picked up as an undrafted rookie back in 2015. Andrew Sendejo was initially discarded by the team (because they knew how good Harris was) and he signed with the Eagles. As soon as the Eagles cut him, he was back at the Vikings, and he starred playing at slot corner for the first time in his career against the Saints on Sunday.

Zimmer gets so much loyalty from his players that most will gladly re-sign with the team, at below market rates. Anthony Barr back tracked on his agreement with the Jets this season because he couldn't imagine playing on a non-Zimmer coached team.

Some analysis of Cousins' season from the PFF QB Annual

The big question for Vikings management is whether or not Cousins should be re-signed (he's entering the last year of his $78 million fully guaranteed contract).

IMO, the Vikings should look elsewhere, and, in particular, let Gary Kubiak choose his QB of choice in the upcoming draft (a QB not named
Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, or Justin Herbert who will all be long gone)
