Also I have a belief that the US and possibly one or two other countries know what exactly happened to MH370 and where the wreckage is but are playing dumb as to not reveal their secretive satellite surveillance capabilities, on a similar vein, considering how paranoid the US would be on potentially Chinese and/or Russian submarines entering their waters or close by, I wonder if they have technology that either know where the sub is or whether its even intact or not, but are playing dumb again in this case.

Honestly I hope they survive and I'm very curious to see what happens next if the sub is intact and there are people still alive in there. Like what would they do to try and get it back to the surface and onto a ship so the opening can be unscrewed?

US have had SOSUS (Sound Surveillance System) in the waters around the USA since the 1950s, for submarine detection, an incredibly accurate early warning system for RU/China subs, it's a huge network of powerful hydrophones that can supposedly detect a fish fart from 1000 kilometres out.

Very very high chance they know exactly where this thing is but due to secrecy and not wanting to leak any form of military intel for 5 civilians, they ain't saying shit.

I think the same about cases like the Kohlberger Idaho 4 stabbings. I mean they know the address 4 people were murdered and approximate time, I'm sure the US military has enough surveillance to just go back and see a person leaving the house at 4am and then follow their car home. They just aren't going to show their capabilities that may be needed for matters of national security and possible war with Russia / China to solve a local serial killer case.

So we get a good ole fashioned police investigation for a few months

I dont understand the deep ocean or engineering all that well at all.

Even I know that going down to that level requires a+ safety, cause if something goes wrong, you are stuck in a sub-creek without a paddle. no hope of rescue if you don't instantly die from the pressure. Even the Space Station would have a greater chance of rescue.

I mean, seriously..I know, the governments have to try and find them, "just in case" but the part of me that is a depressed realist thinks it is a waste of time and effort, as A, you won't be able to reach them if they sunk B: if they surface, good luck finding a white bus in 1000K sq of ocean if they didn't have any sort of fail aside, which leads to C, they should have not cut any corners for safety.

Interesting the whole Western world is interested in this though.
Is it the Titanic,
is it the super CEO and his too-rich friends making dumb decisions we would never make,
or is it the hope of a miracle and the mystery of it all?

Hope for a miracle I guess. People dying sucks, even if it is inevitable.
Humans just being human I guess.
Like people that go out on a Friday night and just have to post pictures of their meal on social media.
We are a weird species.

I was going to say he used a Sony controller instead of Logitech.

Still think it's insane, going that deep down.

I heard they have enough oxygen to last until tomorrow morning. I wonder if it has occurred to anyone that the oxygen would last longer if they "euthanized" the other four passengers?

They couldn't afford to pay experienced people, is what I am getting.

More like they did hire/could afford experienced staff and when told of information and advice they didnt like it so they got rid of them and hired a bunch of yes men.

OceanGate statement regarding external regulation and testing

“Bringing an outside entity up to speed on every innovation before it is put into real-world testing is anathema to rapid innovation.”

That is a massive red flag right there. Incredibly arrogant and I hope those in charge who where behind such thinking face the consequences.

The USA and I daresay the Australian Gov know where MH370 is.

Report i read yesterday was that oxygen would run out at 11am AEST today.

They have less than 3 hours.

Its a 2 hour descent minimum aaaaaand they still havent located the submersible.

In footy terms they are 10 goals down with 2 minutes to play. Miracle wouldnt even do it justice from here.

Really horrible what’s happening to them. Worst scenario imaginable is that they’re floating on the surface, able to see air but running out of air all the same.

I reckon Elon types have (maybe unintentionally) encourages a cavalier attitude towards engineering - as if it’s all just a matter of confidence and the boring safety assurance side of things is just a bureaucratic headache. If any good is to come of this it’ll be that the brakes are pumped on that type of thinking.
