History buffs know full well that the bloke in the Britney Spears film clip went down and got it for her.
I need to do some research

explain like I'm 5 please
At 10m depth, there is the equivalent of 2 atmospheres of pressure squashing you.
At 20m depth, 3 atmospheres
At 30m depth, 4 atmospheres
etc etc

(It gets a bit more complex the deeper you go)

hooly dooly I've never heard of this before but these guys were rescued with just 12 min of oxygen left
Not to labour the point but these guys are somewhere between 8-10 times deeper than those guys were.

What has always shocked me is that during these ocean rescue ‘projects’, we never hear of oceanic wildlife interfering with rescue attempts.

Surely all the noise, splashing, etc that is made during the searches would attract sharks, whales, etc and it would interfere with the rescue attempts, but you never hear of it.
Tends to be the opposite - there's some amazing tracking data on Great White Sharks diving and swimming hundreds of kilometres away when Orcas attacked and killed just one Great White Shark a few kms away

Carbon fibre is very brittle too I think. So you wouldn't want to bump the craft against a shipwreck with sharp pointy bits I'd imagine.
Yep, cyclists know all too well that a small knock on the frame in the wrong way can seriously damage it

I remember a shot of Alberto Contadors bike after hitting a pothole on a decent on the tour a few years ago.

The thing was sheared in half.

Maybe I'm just an idiot but if I had an exorbitant level of * you money I'd try and do some stupid s**t like going to see the Titanic. Probably wouldn't do it until it's completed a thousand trips safely though.
Yeah these rich people either want to go deep space or deep underwater

My dog even better

My cat could be anywhere in the neighbourhood (most likely just the backyard or visiting a neighbour), but if you took a prawn or 2 out of the fridge, she’d be at your feet & trying to jump on the bench before you finish removing the first prawn head

I’m not even sure there’s enough room in that sub for any action
Oh ye of little faith.

It's the size of a mini van and people have been getting it on in small cars for decades.

I dont understand the deep ocean or engineering all that well at all.

Even I know that going down to that level requires a+ safety, cause if something goes wrong, you are stuck in a sub-creek without a paddle. no hope of rescue if you don't instantly die from the pressure. Even the Space Station would have a greater chance of rescue.

I mean, seriously..I know, the governments have to try and find them, "just in case" but the part of me that is a depressed realist thinks it is a waste of time and effort, as A, you won't be able to reach them if they sunk B: if they surface, good luck finding a white bus in 1000K sq of ocean if they didn't have any sort of fail aside, which leads to C, they should have not cut any corners for safety.

Interesting the whole Western world is interested in this though.
Is it the Titanic,
is it the super CEO and his too-rich friends making dumb decisions we would never make,
or is it the hope of a miracle and the mystery of it all?

Hope for a miracle I guess. People dying sucks, even if it is inevitable.

Should have let Jordan Lewis drive.

Makes me wonder how James Cameron managed to do his expeditions.
Well if you don't use home made uncertified subs and have a cavalier attitude towards safety you can actually do stuff successfully.

Titanic killing off rich ppl a hundred years later.
Saw that gag on reddit and thought it was v funny
“a communist idol” another said.

I laughed.

Reddits mostly shit but every now and then.

I was going to say he used a Sony controller instead of Logitech.

Still think it's insane, going that deep down.
We joke about it but off the shelf game controllers are bog standard for this stuff now, why design your own.

It's the other stuff that is the issue.

Carbon fiber without pressure certification

Viewing port not rated for the depth

No lights, no transmitter, no ****s given

or is it the hope of a miracle and the mystery of it all?
Honestly I hope they survive and I'm very curious to see what happens next if the sub is intact and there are people still alive in there. Like what would they do to try and get it back to the surface and onto a ship so the opening can be unscrewed?

Also I have a belief that the US and possibly one or two other countries know what exactly happened to MH370 and where the wreckage is but are playing dumb as to not reveal their secretive satellite surveillance capabilities, on a similar vein, considering how paranoid the US would be on potentially Chinese and/or Russian submarines entering their waters or close by, I wonder if they have technology that either know where the sub is or whether its even intact or not, but are playing dumb again in this case.
