Will be pretty close and will depend on which player's team does better I would think.

How does the fence feel?

I'll come and join you as I too am undecided on who'll kick the most goals out of the two.

Clarky's too hot and cold whereas Vickery's coming off a career best season but could be prone to having a let-down as is usually the case with players coming off a career best season.

As much as I'm a fan of Clark, his output as a forward has tended to be sporadic, whereas Vickery became a regular contributor on the scoreboard in 2011. Vickery at 21 has scope to continue his improvement in this area; Clark less so at 24. I'm backing our player.

Would think Clark as he should be the main target for the demons, and Richmond have Riewoldt and Miller up forward also.

Vickery kicked 36 goals in 2011 with both of these blokes in the forward line with him, why can't he do the same this year? He will improve yet again, and will probably add a further 5-10 goals to his tally, which will bring it to 40-45 by seasons end... I can't see Mitch Clark kicking this many as Melbourne's midfield is not as good as Richmond's.

Mitch Clark won't kick over 30 goals.

Couldn't do it as the main target up forward, Won't do it next to Jurrah etc...

A tie.

27 goals each.

Saw Clark clunk a couple of big marks at Casey on Friday on the intra club match. If he plays all year in the forward 50 he should kick more. Expect Riewoldt to kick a lot so will take away from Vickery. To be honest though Clark himself may only kick 40-50 as we have quiet a few others down there. He also crashed a few packs in the intra club match so that is a big part of his role.

You say only kick 40 - 50 that would be a 50% increase on last year, which was his best return, it's hard to say as he is not really a full forward, but with the price tag he will surely attract a lot of pressure from the opposition and the media, not to mention Melbourne supporters, it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

As for the highest scorer between these two, probably pretty even, but both may play a bit of time in the ruck so it's tough too say, they were neck and neck last year so it may just come down to who is in the more successful team.

I thought Clark played more CHF last year. I know he did against us. I could be wrong. I expect him to play inside F50 this year. Possibly swapping with Watts at CHF like they did in praccy match.

Everyone says Clark is not a full-forward and more of a ruckman. Why don't we wait and see after a full pre-season and proper season of playing predominantly at full-forward where his better position is and remember he is only 23.

Neeld knows his footy and he is adamant that Clark is a natural full-forward so before you shoot that down why dont we just wait and see, coz personally id trust Neeld more than your average bigfooty poster.

Well said.

24.

Occurrences of players Clark's size (200cm+) kicking significant tallies are rare, and rarer still for mature players. But who knows, Neeld may have perceived that the modern game favours this type of forward.

That's not to pan him, or to say he can't make a significant contribution. Have seen him do some eye-popping things up forward; his agility for a big man is exceptional. I just don't think he's an exceptional forward.

And most of those were either young talls who were very talented (Everitt, Ottens), or mature aged players who had already shown the ability to kick bags in the past (Salmon).

I think Vickery will kick more goals. I see Melbourne as still trying to share the load of goal scoring through the likes of Green, Howe, Watts, Jurrah and others. I suspect and hope Vickery will kick 40+ goals this year. Given he kicked 36 last year it's more than feasible. So Clarke will have to kick 40+ and I'm not sure he's required to do that. I suspect in Richmond, Hardwick wants a power forward combo sorta like Franklin and Roughead are.
