Mitch McGovern 2: As The Worm Turns (read the OP)

Aside from the fact that GC have said they won’t be trading those picks, they currently have delisted 3 senior players and are likely to lose Lynch, May and Hall too. So that makes 6 spots available. They’re trading in someone (can’t recall who), so there’s 5 spots they need to fill at the draft. Prevailing wisdom suggests their first 5 picks are likely to be 2,3,5,17 and 26. Why would they give up those top few picks for a bundle of lower picks they are unlikely to need and use?

Again, how many times does it need to be stated. If Carlton want Gov, then they will have to offer something substantial to make it happen. It’s not up to other clubs to help you guys out.
Setting my AFC bias aside, if I was a GC supporter, I would be absolutely apoplectic if my club traded away picks 2 and 3. Especially after already having traded away last year's pick 2 for Lachie Weller. This is why I think a Crows or Port smash-and-grab for GC's 2 and 3 is pie in the sky stuff. No harm in trying, I suppose.

The Two Ronnies on 5AA I heard in the car yesterday afternoon said the trade for Mitch was going to be done on the opening day (Monday).

Why would we even entertain finalising (unless it was that bloody good) without knowing what was happening elsewhere?

Will be absolutely livid if we bend over on this trade.

PS : and pick 25 has now become 26 with Bulldogs compensation pick.
You need to just wait until the trade period is done and dusted and judge them over all based on what we end up with. No point going off half cocked before you know the big picture. No doubt Reid Hamish et al do know.

Regardless who the club is we needed to just flat out say no, you’re contracted, required and not going anywhere.
The only reason we should even entertain the thought is because we have been offered a deal too good to refuse.

My odds;

Trade to not Carlton - 50%
Stay - 35%
Carlton- 15%

Carlton won't have or won't spend the currency to get him. If he's desperate to get out there'll be less lucrative offers that he'll take if he needs to save face. If he's not worried about saving face, he'll stay.

He looks a very nice and compact player but we don’t have a direct need for him. I would give up pick 15 for him but we don’t have that need.

HB: Smith - Keath - Laird
FB: Doedee - Talia - Brown

Smith could move to a wing and you have a vacancy but who knows.
If he were to be considered, it would have to be as a forward IMO .....probably a similar role to McGovern / Gunston as that 3rd tall ?

A surprise omission from the round one team for balance reasons last season, Burton was back the next week and immediately earned the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination, eventually finishing second overall. Burton settled into the backline where he averaged 3.8 exits a game. He was sixth for total possessions and was one of only two Hawks to average more than 20 possessions and have a disposal efficiency of more than 80 per cent. Hawthorn loved his ability to read the play and to counter attack and his two long goals in the upset away win over Adelaide in round 14 were exquisite. He signed another contract extension through to the end of 2020, but in the meantime, a move to the midfield might be on the agenda this year.

I’m surprised people think that Reid will accept pick 24 and McAdam.

This guy last year got 2 first round picks for lever and Pick 12 for Cameron. He is obviously a good operator.

Yes he did get a little dent on the Gibbs trade, but if we didn’t have such a bad year with injuries then the Gibbs trade was extremely good for a contracted player also

He probably predicted Carlton would be bottom 2 therefore only a 3 or 4 pick downgrade in a better draft. We didn’t get as reamed as people think in that Gibbs trade

Exactly so in the 3 trades last year he nailed it at about 90%. I’d be extremely surprised if he accepted pick 24 which is going to be more like pick 32 after all compensations and father sons/ academy selections and McAdam. It is basically pick 32 and 40 for McGovern when I think he said he wouldn’t accept picks in the 20’s

Does tht mean they have given up on Fogerty?

If we don’t get Lukosius, the McGovern role is open for Fogarty to have a huge summer and walk straight into it.

If we trade for him, I would put Burton on a half back flank.

It'll be tough to upgrade picks and other clubs may not play ball but if McGovern is traded for 2x2nd Rounders & McAdam, we trade in Stengle and one or both of Chol and Smith (or any other player yet to be linked) plus re-sign Otten... How many live draft picks will be need?

Both Bickley and Rowe are saying that the McGovern to Carlton deal is done.

They're intimating that its one of picks 24 or 25 (which will blow out to 27 or 29) plus McAdam

In all seriousness, they wouldn't know jackshit about what the trade may look like. Anybody panicking that this will be the trade needs to grow a pair.

Needless to say, if this is what eventuates, I'm going to cry. :'(

Surely we're free to post our thoughts based upon information provided by Rowe and Bicks. There's an implied IF. It really shouldn't need to be spelt out. It's a discussion forum FFS.

Yea if noble was in charge I’d be worried but I can’t see Reid accepting this after what we’ve seen of him so far

I agree ....this is where you struggle to see a role for Burton ? .....have to develop Fogarty & Himmelberg

Half Backs well covered ....but Burton's a 21 yo highly talented player, so would we say no?

What is going on with Adelaide, genuinely perplexed to see the club imploding like it is.

Not quite Essendon saga levels (thank your lucky stars, it was painful) but there's a lot of damage that you're doing to yourselves. To have a talented kid like McGovern crack it after re-signing only last year makes you wonder if it is just money that's driving his behaviour.

From being raging favourites going into a granny to the mess right now is a disaster.

Adelaide is a club that typically just bounce back hard from challenging periods and obviously you aren't immune to talent exiting.

Hope you play hard ball with Carlton.

Look, I don’t know but can Burton play CHB?

Slot him straight into CHB instead of Keath or Hartigan.

Ummmmmm.......if I needed a dollar and I had a buck to trade.......then I guess I would be all good!

Haha, good point, that was nonsensical. It was late.

The first should be a non-monetary asset worth a dollar.

Fair enough, except MM is more likely to provide the performances we need next year to go all the way than a draftee. Longer term sure the draftee may be a better option. Would depend to some degree on how the club view the current list and their ability to compete next year

Personally I'm inclined to think if the club isn't offered a deal to get us a young comparable player in this years draft, why bother trading MM out. Wait 12 or even 24 months and see what happens

I have a hard time telling with McGovern whether he is more likely or not.

He seems to be Brad Crouch like in his ability to spend time on the sidelines.

At least Reid has proven he can actually play hardball. Noble is a smooth operator for the most part but he's weak as piss at the trade table.
Not really ....he's a bit like Hawthorn, if they want a player, they do it pretty quickly, and not always the cheapest deal .....I don't mind that ...every deal doesn't have to have the last shred of blood drained from the opposition

Just pick & choose your battles

Can anyone tell me what Sam Muc has done to earn the rite to express himself as an expert. Has he ever played the game. Did he pass mathermatics at school because he doesn't seem to be able to add one and one. He's just a little boy trying to live in a mans world.

He opens his mouth really wide when he talks.

Yeah but Noble would always opt for an early trade, even when it had no bearing on any of our other trades. He wasn't picking and choosing his battles. He was predictable and opposition teams knew they could rip him off.

Can you imagine Burton on Tom Lynch (Rich) ...Tom McDonald ..Lance Franklin ....Ben Brown ....Frankly I can't

Implode?

We are not imploding. We have resigned 19 players last year and only have 1, count tht ONE player asking for a trade. In the entire AFL, we have the lowest amount of players requesting a trade away from the club.

West Coast, premiers, winner of the Grand Final - the greatest club iof 2018 have Andrew Gaff and Scott Lycett looking to move.

We are not imploding, we are a victim of the bias Victorian media writing junk and the average football support only being engrossed in their own club to look at the truth. We are not imploding at all.
