I mean, can any of you lickspittles answer this for me:

If you're Carlton, and you can hear us saying that we don't expect to get a first rounder and we're considering the mature age picks, why would you ever ever offer more?

You don't. You know that you don't have to. You would never do it.

Is there any outcome the club could churn out that you wouldnt fawn over?
You seem angry and ignorant to any of my other comments. I don't fawn over anything, certainly not anything a football club does. I asked a question. Is McAdams not the same as getting an early pick considering he is a priority pick clubs want. That's it. That's not fawning. I even said correct me if I'm wrong. Which you could have. Instead of accusing me of fawning over every scenario the crows will go with.

Correct me if in wrong but getting McAdams is the same as a early pick considering he's a priority pick quite a few clubs want? Then we get picks 25 and 26. Seems like a reasonable deal to me if we want to get 1 done.

If not like I said before, cripps or nothing. But if we actually want a deal I think that offer sounds pretty reasonable?
Since when are state league players anything other than rookie selections or 4th or 5th round national draft selections. I know Kelly was an exception but that’s a one off

Well, if I'm misjudging you I certainly do apologise.

It's just that the suggestion is so absurd that it appears to me that only someone desperate to spin could make it.

If you made it in earnest, fair enough, but like... wow dude.

Well maybe you missed my post 30 minutes ago where I said I haven't been following the trade as real life has gotten in the way . And I simply asked if McAdams is not the same as a early draft pick being a priority pick clubs want. I don't understand why hes a priority pick if he's not equal to a early draft pick?

What matters is what is said in the room, but you make a valid point.

No, it's not just that which matters.

Every single thing that you do in, and around, a negotiation matters. The opposing party is watching your body language, they're watching what you say about it, and if they're half way professional they know your history.

Add any of those things up and tell me that you, as Carlton, now agree to pay anything other than steak knives?

The AFL invented a new form of 'assistance', because they didnt want to compromise the top picks.

None of the other clubs really complained, largely because they understood that the value was in the draft, not these mature age second chancers.

The AFC have made a bad trade error just like the Bulldogs had done last year with Stringer. Once you say a contracted player can go you devalue any trades. Stringer went for a 2nd rounder when earlier in the season he could have gone for anything.

I don't know how this situation is even remotely similar to Stringer. By memory that trade was devalued due to how much off field shenanigans Jake ended up in.

Saying your open to trading someone doesn't harm your position of strength. Just that you won't be too difficult when a club meets your asking price. Equally if the club has done their due dilligence, that price would be higher then his market worth anyway as contracted allows that.

Well then they don't get him.

But we're not willing to do that. We've told them that already by considering the steak knives.

TBH, the only way to salvage it from this point would be for someone higher up to remove Reid from the negotiations- reset the board, but they would never do that.

So they aren’t sitting on what we want like Brisbane was?

The resemblance is uncanny :p
The resemblance is that Reid held out and bluffed the media with BS till we got what we want.

Reid has an end game in mind and I dont think it is the shitty pick in the 20 and McAdam steak knives.for Gov.

If Carlton/Gold Coast didn’t have these mature-age picks, I guarantee you nobody would be talking about McAdam. He would have been a speculative late/rookie pick at best. Nobody in the media had even heard of him 3 weeks ago, but suddenly he’s the second coming of Tim Kelly and worth heaps.

Truth is, Carlton have actually already set the value of their mature-age picks. They sold Nathan Kreuger to Geelong for a third-round pick (42). So thats what they’re worth. Accepting McAdam and a second rounder is the same as accepting a second and a third for Gov. Even with another second thrown in, thats still not enough in my books, unless we can turn those two seconds into a pick 10ish, but the onus needs to be on Carlton to get that pick swap done first, not for us to just accept it and hope we can do a swap later. It may never eventuate and we’re stuck with two crap picks.

Correct, this trade will be absolutely nothing like the Stringer deal. By all reports Stringer had been told by the club that he was no longer necessary BEFORE the trade period.

We at no point have indicated that he is not a required player, quite the opposite in fact, we've said we would be most happy to keep him if an adequate trade price can't be met.

Not even chalk and cheese. More like Chalk and a Jazz Musician on a 3 day whisky bender!

We dont onkw what he is saying behind closed doors.

The media spin could be more about justifying why no deal could be done as Carlton have offered only a pick in the 20s and a mature aged player.

Or just BS because he has to talk to the media to appease the 24/7 footy media spin cycle.

Where have we told them this ?? Weve told them pick 10 as a start, not sure that's steak knives

They don’t need to do that.

What he needs to do is tell Carlton and Colin Young privately they have until 9 am Monday morning to get us a future first round pick. If they don’t, we start negotiating with a second or third club but they key now, is to stop talking to the media.

Come Monday morning, follow through. Get on the phone to Fremantle, St Kilda and who ever else is interested and see what they will offer. If they are not interested, he needs to start making noises like we are happy to keep McGovern and he will have to stay.

Completely ignore Carlton until 8 pm Tuesday night. They will ring. You don’t make huge offers and let that 3rd party down. Colin young would be on the phone to SOS by lunch time Monday demanding an answer if we took a strong stance.

People take too much stock in the pressers done by Reid and SOS etc.

SoS wont be sitting there watching Reids words in Trade Week Radio/TV getting cues on the trade.

Those interviews are for the Trainspotters.

It's about to get silly again at the Port camp

The McGovern deal aint as close as they speak. I WOULD expect talks to roll all over the place

So the Cats are demanding a top 10 pick for Kelly - a bloody rookie, yet we're going to ask for unders for a player entering his prime? FFS.
A guy who finished 2nd in their BnF in his first year.

Who says we are? This is classic BigFooty shadow-jumping. Just wait and see what happens, and then criticize or praise the club.

Too late were going to accept unders. Expecting deal to be done today
