Mitchell Marsh. You would think cricket will win his services.

He should do a Keith Miller and play both. It would be the ultimate man-act that hasn't been seen since the days of Warnie, Simon O'Donnell and Max Walker.

How about if he played footy for the first 7 years after he finishes school (till he's 25), then head back to cricket, and play there for another 10 years (till he's 35). Most Cricketers don't make it into the national team until they're in their mid twenties anyway, so it could work

With the IPL he'll make more money in cricket. Just is not practical playing both..even less practical playing footy till he is 25. Philip Hughes made the national team at 20..Callum Ferguson made the ODI side at 24.

I can confirm that Mitch Marsh has chosen Cricket over Football......My source is from people who work @ the WACA and after all i do work there and from a family friend of the Marsh family.

not saying anything about the content being correct or not, but the wording alone of this post couldnt sound more pompous.

would be a tough call choosing 1 over the other, but i think i would rather see him playing cricket.

love the mention some have made about playing footy in winter, cricket in summer..........if only it could work.

Can only run 20m at a time(cricket pitch length) is slow and his performance in the 18's carnival was well below par.
He is a perfect fit for cricket, even though he only scored 10 runs for WA last outing and 7 today, I know he is still young but if he is such a gun as everybody he states he should do much better than that!
Stick to cricket Mitch and do what you do best, there are far more better footballers than you out there.

He is 17 or 18 playing first class cricket..that shows how good he is...

Yep, 17yo, scored a double century in first grade the weekend before making his debut for WA, that's how good he is. The 10 and 7, don't worry about them, he's still got to get used to the next level of bowling, he'll be fine.

He is only a kid playing against first class bowlers for the first time:rolleyes:

Yep and whilst it is a shame from an AFL perspective..Australian cricket needs Mitchell Marsh more than AFL does!

Not saying the young fella didnt deserve his call up, but I wonder if CA officials had a word to the WA selectors, get him in the side, dont want to lose another one to footy

Doubt it, has scored bucketloads of runs this season- unlike Sean who is ridiculously overrated as a batsman! Weight of runs equated to his callup, not his impending decision.

Punter was 17 when he got into first class cricket, I'd say Marsh would have the youngest since him.

He'd be close that is for sure. I remember Greg Blewett was quite young when he debuted, same with Bevan (who debuted for South Australia not NSW). I would not know exact dates for those two though. Going back in history there has been a few that have been a bit earlier than Marsh and Punter though.

I think Sean Marsh was also 17 when he debuted

They should have waited 2 years for the better brother! Sean has hopeless technique and the quicker he is out of the ODI and 20/20 sides the better. Might work as a middle order bat..but he was seriously batting so slow this summer..and his opening in Shield cricket were diabolical!

Shaun needs to work on his techinque, especially on hard bouncey australian wickets. Struggles against good seam/swing bowling, though is very good against spinners uses his feet well.

His IPL form will continue to be good he is suited to indian wickets.

Mitch Marsh has alot better techinque and has more shots than his brother.

I hope he doesn't go to NSW but thats the fast track to the aussie team.

Histroy has shown NSW kids get picked with little first class experience more so than any other state.

Pretty much agreed with all you said. The feeling I get is Mitch Marsh will be playing for NSW next season

If Mitch walks out on WA next year, I will not be happy

The WACA admin has a lot to answer for as to why it can't retain players
