Posts being moved to different threads is a bit heavy handed. The preseason thread is about anything to do with the Eagles during the preseason. So an overlap will always occur with the draft/contracts thread.

Nah I don't mind the delineation between Post season and preseason.
There is 300 od pages of pick 3/Baker ranting to wank over in the 2024 D&T thread if that's your thing (NTTAWWT). I dont see why it should be dredged up by the same posters and turned into pages of grizzling in the pre season thread. It can be mentioned, sure, but once it descends into pages of moaning, **** it off to where it belongs IMO.

On our long term guest, I get his posting isn't everyone's cuppa and he does have a bit of an arrogant air about the way he goes about it but it hasn't really bothered me. Though it seems he is having an impact on the board and while I don't think a 'me or him" blackmail approach is the way I would address it, maybe it is time for him to have some parameters put around how he conducts himself or be asked to leave if it is causing other valuable posters to withdraw.

Doing a good job Mods.

Our QLD guest is pretty annoying but rather than chucking a tanty every time
he posts and creating private chats instead of posting on the forums in protest I usually just scroll past his posts, pretty easy.

Not everyone hates his posts so don’t think forcibly removing him is the right option.

I concur. However if he's going to be given the leeway to react to posts with a lol or reply with sarcasm etc then when posters react back he should be able to wear it. Unfortunately if you do clap back he gets the sads on and then a myriad of posters come in and say "oh leaaavveee him aloooone!". If he wants to be a regular then he should be able to cop shit like the rest of us do.

Yeah for sure. I haven’t read enough of his posts to notice that at least

I just like shitposting about the Brisbane academy tbh.

I suppose I could chuck in 2c on moderation from my time doing it on EaglesFlyingHigh for the best part of 20 years. While it's no longer there (I don't have time or money, and social media made it generally no longer useful), it was an interesting experience.

I had a few rules - everyone - and that meant everyone was welcome - and everyone got the same level of support. There were regular Freo posters (I think one Freo poster was even a mod on the generic "AFL" board) and a smattering of supporters of other clubs - and if they were abused for that, the support went to the person being abused. This was the main bit of moderation that I had to do - and usually with newer posters, until they got the idea.

The software here allows for people to be ignored too (which I didn't have), and that's useful - if people have a problem with certain posters, then I'd have just told them to put them on ignore, rather than pandering to one person over another.

Anything truly vile (and there were some truly vile things posted over the years), got smacked down without warning with permanent bans. In one case, I actually emailed the Collingwood footy club about a supposed "fan site" of theirs someone linked to that was full of truly ugly racist crap (mostly about Sampi and Wirrpanda IIRC). It was gone pretty quick - even the Pies wouldn't take that one.

Anyway, this board seems to be running fairly well - like anyone there's times where certain digressions get tiring (and I'm glad I don't have to read it all, that's for sure), but generally it's not that different in feel to what it was back in the early noughties when I was a regular poster here.

(EFH actually came about because this place had a long period of instability where functionality was really bad due to unavailable resources, not because we didn't like posting here)

Regarding our Brisbane visitor, I personally have nothing against his posts. But he has definitely overstayed his welcome.
This is the WCE board for WCE posters. If he wants to discuss WCE trades and list management, he can do that on the "Drafts, Trading & Free Agency" forum like every other non-eagles poster.

And a script should be added so that his name constantly changes in a rhyming way!

The thing is until recently I never really noticed him discussing much specifically about the Eagles, he was mainly talking about the Lions and the Northern academies. Along with other topical issues such as trying to sell Dev Robertson to us and doubting Reid as the best player of the 2023 draft.

Enjoyed my time as a moderator on EFH.

I like that our board can have other supporters on here and is more relaxed than others. Sometimes threads can be a bit stale and an echo chamber so having alternative view points from people who may not be as emotionally bias as us can stimulate discussion and offer perspective. Keep up the great work imo.

100% we want opposition supporters views and input..........as long as they come in peace.

The opposition poster being referred to here is a very subtle troll. He admitted enjoying stirring up the Eagles board on the Lions board. And his arguments are disengenuous and easily refuted

That is why so many of us ignore him. Unfortunately others are stopping posting on the main board and creating private groups instead.

Thats the issue.

Now we can presume said poster has read this thread.

And using a very Eagles saying he is now very much "on notice".

I suggest everyone turn off the ignore buttons and get back to normal posting. And should said poster start rehashing the same old BS to get the same old reactions he goes.

Simple.

Anyone can go onto an opposition board and nit pick the list and make silly assumptions to come up with a less than acceptable outcome. Its not hard. It can even hold elements of truth.

But how many boards put up with opposiion supporters sprouting negativity whilst subtley boasting about their own team?

I can think of only one. Ours.

You go onto any other board and do that you get shown the door pretty quickly.

Something to consider.

Well then you've taken the bait and he is laughing at you. And so are a number of Lions posters who now the club being premiers have ramped up gloating about the academtly rort.

Don't feed the troll.

The mods here do a great job.

While strictly not moderation, the provision of regular training reports is very much appreciated.

Some of the best content on this board comes from some of the older posters with links to junior football in WA and over east. Most of us, don't have the time to attend colts, Coates league or Under 18 championship games, so their views on junior players are invaluable.

Sad to think that we may lose access to this insight, to ensure we don't offend an opposition supporter.

Can we get a wheel of fortune ban game setup for Dark Sharks where once a week he has to spin it and the ban time can range from anywhere between one hour and a week?

Nothing against him personally as he brings some lulz I just think it would be amusing.

Bit of feedback, particularly when crunch time comes, nearing the trade period or draft.

The contract thread got hijacked by the baker trade so much that all else was lost in the wash.

The same happened with dev and Curtin the year before.

When it's obvious a particular topic is that HOT regarding disagreements and debate, could we start a specific thread for the debate.

Thanks

PS..."Harley's worth" will need to be a thread if he hasn't signed by the end of this year.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to this thread and give your thoughts on how this board is moderated.

Whilst not the intention when starting the thread, it was pleasing to read so many positive posts.

There were a number of constructive suggestions on how things might be improved and they will be taken into consideration.

For example, we will look to act quicker in shutting down circular arguments between 2 or more posters that derail threads and also be mindful that whilst off topic (shit) posting can be funny in small doses and part of the fabric of this board, it can become tedious of over indulged.

So there will be some cosmetic changes that streamline threads somewhat without going overboard

That’s the superficial stuff out of the way

The most contentious issue, and the catalyst for this thread existing, was the treatment of outside posters, specifically briztoon who has polarised this board. Whilst most posters seem happy to accommodate outside views to a point, some thought we’d given him too much latitude.

That sentiment had led to a small group of posters, spearheaded by AsterixTheGaul , deciding to share their posts privately unless, and until, briztoon was banned, if not from the board completely, at least from the contracts thread

It is my, and the other mods, view that whilst not always agreeing with his posts, briztoon had not broken any rules. At least not to the extent that would justify a ban from the board or a specific thread. Clearly, that is not a universally shared view

The ultimatum issued privately by Asterix, put me in a Catch 22 position. I could either ban someone I felt hadn’t broken any rules and overlook one of my core principles to be accepting of outside views provided they weren’t trolling or have a group of our better and most informed posters withdraw themselves from open discussion

Hence this thread

Taking on board the views expressed and without wanting to get into an argument about whether or not briztoon is or isn’t a troll, I believe the following compromise, whilst not perfect, provides a workable solution

Two new threads will be started-
1) Draftees - for discussion on this years draft crop, including NGAs and Father/Sons, and who we may or may not be interested in, where they might go in the draft etc
2) List management- what holes do we have in the list, either existing or upcoming, and who should we target to fill those holes. This will likely also include discussion on who needs to be moved on from our list

It is intended that these threads will be moderated more tightly to ensure posts are on topic and aren’t derailed. Whilst they won’t be given a “No Opposition Supporters” tag, Briztoon specifically won’t post in them and any outside posters will be given a shorter leash

The existing Contracts thread will remain open as is for more robust discussion and for posts that cover multiple draft/trade/contract views. It will also serve as a catch all for posts in the separate threads that drift off topic but still offer something worthwhile. Briztoon will be allowed to post in that thread but he has agreed privately to pull back on posting on non-eagles issues which have been at the core of the angst towards his posting. Other visitors will be held to a similar standard

There is likely to be a teething period as we get used to the split of the threads and some adjustments might need to be made along the way so please be patient

Apologies for the long post and I trust the above satisfies the concerns raised - there has been considerable thought put into this over a number of weeks after I was put in the most awkward position I’ve been in as a moderator of this forum
