Correct call, crap rule. The player should be allowed to tackle someone from behind, gwilt was diving whilst the tackle was in motion, of course he is going to go forward. It SHOULD be play on every time.

Spot on. It's a terrible interpretation of the rule and just encourages players to fall forward when they're tackled, but these frees are paid all of the time. Mooney wasn't hard done by.

So pay them every time they occur, not just in the last minute of an epic struggle, and not just to get your ugly smug mug on TV.

Rationalise all you like, Mooney pushed him in the back, no ifs or buts. You push a bloke in the back you risk a free kick. Can't always rely on an umpire missing it.

If the roles were reversed you be screaming you were robbed and you should've got a free kick. Would I be right?

Can someone direct me to the clause in the rule book that says you can cannon into a players back as long as more than 3 millimetres of rain has fallen in the previous hour.

Mine must be missing a few pages

Bingo.

It's gotta be a final as well don't forget, and there is the extra clause about how crude you can be depending on how close the game is.

They've paid that every time it has happened this year so it was certainly the right decision under the rules.

It is just that the rules are shit.

Ok if we are calling back rules I want Hawkins goal from the GF that hit the post gone. Saints now lead the GF by 12 points at the start of the 4th quarter.

At least our decision was correct, Geelong fans have now overtaken Hawks fans as the worst on this site.

Selwood ducking his head into Gwilts arm was far more disgraceful.
Suck it up Catters,Karma is Joel'headduck"Selwood''

Context and weather doesn't come into it. A push in the back is a push in the back. That is not arguable. Read the rulebook.

Explain what part of Mooney's action was a "push".

Seeing as you must of read the rulebook can you direct me to the section which clearly outlines that what Mooney did was a "push in the back" so much so that it's not arguable?

So you're saying consistency doesn't matter, the laws and spirit of the game don't matter, and the distinction between a pushing someone in the back and that person falling forward on purpose doesn't matter.

You could have just said "I'm an idiot and my opinion is worthless" and saved us all some time.

Well we've had about 2 out 15 people from Adelaide with sensible comments.

Don't turn this into an anti "West Horsham" thread. Not necessary.

For what it's worth, by the interpretation of the rule as it currently stands, free kick for in the back, all day every day.

He rode him into the ground landing on the back. Free kick all year.

Now lets talk about the rule which states that if you duck your head in a contest, head high contact is not payed. Joel Selwood and Stevie J are presenting a seminar on it tommorow morning. Free BBQ for Cats fans when you present your sore loser memberships.

umm how is this even a thread??

that was a free kick, would have been paid a free 99/100

if itd happened in the first Q no one wouldve even remembered it.

cam mooney you are a w***er :thumbsu:

I agree the Mooney decision was terrible.

That soccer off the ground was clearly touched by Dawson.

That is the decision we're talking about isn't it?

Ohh when the Saints,
get marched right in,
Ohh when the Saints,
get marched right in,
How I wish I bet on StKilda,
When the AFL makes sure they win. :(

This is an abysmally naff post
Dislike the Saints much?
Free would've been paid 10 minutes into the first and therefore should be paid at the 30 minute mark of the final quarter.
I agree that when the ump puts the whistle away it makes for a better game but you CANNOT pick and choose when to pay a free. I would be pissed off if I followed Geelong due to the fact that there are occassions that these frees are overlooked but I would also accept that the free was fairly there to be paid.
