Carlton are way more embarrassing than the Saints. For almost my entire lifetime watching football they've been absolute dogshit despite the huge advantages of being a big club.

Haven't done anything aside from 95 when they were clearly cheating the salary cap. The only thing they have is ancient history, which counts for nothing.

Well my SANFL side is South Adelaide Panthers. Won 11 SANFL premierships from their establishment in 1876: 1877, 1885, 1892, 1893, 1895, 1896, 1898, 1899, 1935, 1938 and 1964.

So no flag since 1964 and no grand final since 1979.

Freo? Well 8 times out of 30 they made finals. Only 2012-15 is the only time they made sustainable finals or finals for at least 2 years in a row.

Again .... I would personally would want Ken Hinkley as dockers coach for 10 seasons if he can get the exact finals success he has had at Port from 2013-21.

Dockers last finals win is in 2022. Dockers seemed to be on the up apparently

GWS should not be on this list. They have done well. Not surprising as they made full use of their concessions.

The current system is 18 teams and 8 spots.

It's harder to win a grand final, let alone make one compared to 10 or 15 or 20 years ago

Well from 1925 to 1971 it was 12 Victorian sides for 4 finals spots. So one in 3 teams to make finals.

I'm always worried Essendon will find a way to snag a finals win one year but they keep finding a way to keep the streak going. Hopefully it extends another couple of decades.

Essendon drought is most embarrassing I think. Saints at least have played in grand finals and GC could blame afl for botching the set up - ie administrator embarrassing not players or supporters. Also to measure level of embarrassment/ shame it is usually felt by the supporter group so Essendon also has the largest there as they have many more supporters than Gold Coast.

Agree it’s beyond belief really a club like Essendon with the money and resources they have, have been so poor on field for so long

The embarrassment comes from the constant off-season talking up by their supporters of how good they are, and how next season is going to be different, only for the inevitable egg-on-face moment in April, June or August the following season.

Correct. In contrast to Carlton supporters, you'll find that most Saints and Freo supporters are good people. We appreciate that there are aspects of supporting your team that matter just as much as winning.

GWS was a team of star talent that had never really struggled in their careers and didn't have a good enough coach.

Now they have finals heartbreak and if they can refresh their list and get a two or three more top 50 players they should be constantly challenging finals.

If their home stadium wasn't in such a terrible spot they would probably have fans too.
