That’s some serious tin foil hat stuff right there

But it is mightily convenient that these rules brought in directly went against our style of play. Not going to say there’s a conspiracy going on cause it’s the first I’ve heard of the AFL exec thing. However it just seems strange that rule changes were implemented that seem designed to clearly hamper certain teams/game styles, yet clearly advantage others (ie teams with strong rucks - Coll, Melb, WC)

Oh man, you won 1 flag! It’s not like Richmond had been dominating the competition for decades. They’re not out to get you, you’re not the only club with weak rucks who were affected by the new rules

Look at Richmond's game plan in 2017 & 18 and look at the rule changes
666 to stop Richmond setting up behind the ball. Kick out to help limit the forward press, and of course the new ruck rule, or the Grigg rule.
Didn't even need an AFL executive to admit it, the intent of the rule changes were obvious.
Are you saying the thirdman up rule was the “grig rule”? If so that is completely untrue. That was bought in after 2016 which the bulldogs used continually deployed.

I hate Melbourne with a passion.
no respect for them as a club at all.

i have a strong dislike for Collingwood but they have my respect as a club.

Essendon are just irrelevant and will be for a generation imo

AFL brings in new rules to deny Richmond of a fair game based on their game plan. That is the most ****ing ridiculous thing ive seen on BF and i see ****ed up shit on here daily. Hats off Tigers even after 2 flags in 3 years you still manage to play victims must be a hard mentality to beat after 30 years of complaining and bitching

I just said that I don’t think there was a conspiracy. It just seemed like very odd rules to bring in when there are far more pressing issues (ie score review bs slowing the game, ruck nomination bs, umps taking forever to throw the ball up/in cause they waiting for nominations, sliding below knees stupid rule). I’d argue these are more pressing issues than punishing teams that don’t have good rucks or like to set up behind the ball.

I’m being a bit tongue in cheek to make a point.
AFL either by design, chance, geography, rule changes etc. provides teams with various advantages and disadvantages which clubs need to manage.
For example, having the MCG as a home ground was once viewed as a potential disadvantage, until Richmond weaponised it by creating a specific game plan for it.

nope

we'll just keep adding oppo posts to the huge salt mine we have
Wasting your money on a salt mine when you should be spending that on a key defender you know since Rance has retired for sleeping with a team mates missus.

Take a 30 second geez at any of their 'no opposition supporters' threads on their board. It's the saddest thing you'll ever see.

Ignore the boomer vfl votes it's Geelong.

Selwood, Danger, Ablett, Hawkins, Chris Scott

Time after time have these individuals destroyed everyone.

And then complain about everything else that comes with it.
Can you please stop your infernal whinging.
Port gets to play all 11 of it's home games at it's "Portress", plus an 'away' game in China. What more do you want from the heavily interstate biased AFL? Gill to kick your goals for you?

There is certainly no conspiracy against Richmond as a club itself regarding the rule changes. The AFL's thinking would have been more along the lines of "the broadcasters are complaining about the lack of ad breaks due to the lower scoring game style the teams are adopting and the game isn't as exciting with lower scores. How do we increase the scoring?", rather than "damn. Richmond won a flag, what rules can we implement to stop them?".

The rules were targeting a game style which teams were starting to implement that resulted in lower scores rather than targeting Richmond specifically. Other teams were starting play a similar style, but it's just happens the Richmond were the best at playing that game style.

Well, it might've inconvenienced Richmond to some degree - although the 2019 Grand Final result says otherwise:oops: - but the paranoid aspect to Grin 's post is that these rule changes were made specifically to kneecap Richmond and Richmond alone.

The reality is all 18 clubs were setting up an 18-man zone on opposition kick-outs and locking the ball inside their forward 50 for extended periods. It was bogging the game down and reducing the number of end-to-end inside 50's and coast to coast scores. The AFL wanted the game to be less stagnant and more free-flowing, so it was an abvious rule change to remove the time restriction on kick-outs and allow restarts before zones could be set up.

As for the "Grigg rule", Richmond weren't alone with this either. Hawthorn's Jordan Lewis had been doing it for years. All clubs were doing it to some degree. Geelong had been using Blicavs as 3rd man up ruck-rover in tandem with Stanley or Smith.

Any club that didn't have a good ruckman were instructing them to lock horns/tangle arms wither their opponent and keep them down for their 3rd up jumper to come across and win the hitout (or smash into the oppo ruckman.) Things had gotten so bad that commentators were questioning whether ruckmen would become extinct. Why bother picking a 200cm specialist? Just pick an extra midfielder.

it was a good rule change to counteract the smart ruthless coaches who were ruining a fundamental aspect of the game.

Going on current votes it's Essendon - guess the drug saga is mainly behind this.

Then daylight to Collingwood - must be Eddie or Bucks or something, certainly not our lack of success.

Then daylight to similar numbers with the blose and tigs................................ must be a big 4 thing.
