1. Fevola (wouldnt probaly kick a goal without him0
2. Murphy (good decision making for young bloke. At carlton for life.)
3. Thornton (Expierenced back man can still hold down a goo forward.)
4. Stevens ( His work in the middle)
5. Waite ( Can play both CHB or CHF)

mentions to: setenta, kennedy, betts and either cloke or acland (need ruckmen lol)

definitely Fevola is our most important player, then probably Murphy, Stevens

The engine room is the most important followed by the forward line so the centre players are very important, in our heydays we had the best in and under centre players in the comp hence thats why we dominated so much.

1. B. Fevola - at the moment he is our most important because he is the only one who can will win you a game off his own boot. Continually kicks bags of goals and is our only focal point at the moment.

2. M. Murphy (B Gibbs) - quality midfielders that can run and hit their targets are the most important comodity in a football team. If you dont have them you dont have a 17th flag.

3. J. Kennedy - Key Centre Half Forward. For mine CHF is the most important position on the ground. (Although Aaron Sandilands is slowly changing that theory of mine). Josh is 198 - 98kg and runs all day. There hasnt been to many premiership sides without a huge quality CHF (Bris - Brown, P.A - Tredrea, Syd - Hall) (Ess 2000 - Lucas & W.C 2006 are the exception). If the boy takes the best defender or becomes as equal to Fev look out.

4. N. Stevens (K. Simpson) - Wide recievers with polish are vital for our forwards. Massive engine's are so important in the final quarter and with stevens he has them both.

5. S. O'hAilpin - You need someone that is able to run with and take on the oppositions best Forward. If Carlos can hold Brown, Tredrea, Riewoldt - Gehrig, Hall etc to as minimal impact as possible Thornton & Waite can be damaging both on their respective opponents, and when running forward.

B. Gibbs and K. Simpson will be equal to M. Murphy and N. Stevens in years to come.

Special mentions to J. Waite, A. Walker & S. Hampson.

Either way exciting times for us in the future.

Go Blues.

Someone said **** Pratt how true, we need to get the off field direction right first! IMO the blues couldn't have done more, hats off to the Board, Staff & players for the following:
1) getting **** Pratt.
2) appointing Stephen Icke.
3) snaring "Maggie Swann" & removing Malouf.
4) setting precedents at Carlton when it comes to issues that are now facing other clubs
5) letting the Captain of the Club sort out his own personal problems without drawing attention to the Club but still supporting him in their endorsement of him as captain.
6) Similar sentiments with the "fev incidents" last year.
7) Increasing sponsorships.
8) Playing to win the NAB Cup with recent poor performance Clubs like ours owe it to the fans to play competitively in any & every game.

As for playing stock just need to keep developing the fringe players at the ants. So when we get the inevitable injures we have ready made usable depth. I think this year is all about letting Waite find his feet at CHB, Carlos getting the 2nd tall, rotating Ackland & McClaren, finding the 3rd & 4th Forward to kick their multiple goals per game, game time into the midfield Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, Blackwell & Co.

Most importantly to enjoy when we win & to learn from the shortcomings when we lose. Live by the clubs code of conduct to stop the gutter stories being written about the blues.

Far from a weak arguement.

It's proof captains don't need to be in the top 5 players.

Even if they should.
It's a terribly weak argument.

A captain who was coming off a "near AA year" and deserved the captaincy more than Stevens should be in our most needed players.

He isn't a leader or a star. ;)

Michael Tuck was captain of possibly one of the greatest football teams ever... he was nowhere near their top 5 players.
