The thing that seems to be lacking in this drama is facts. Let's get excited when we have some! THat said, I'd hate to lose him.

Can't they take his family (all his 9 siblings and parents) to Mexico and talk to him?

I do not want to wait.. MOTLOP HAS TO SIGN.

Then again, I am sure the boys can do a pretty good job talkin to the boy.

Jnr, ya gotta stay.

Go Roos:(

The Next Installment from THE AGE

Roos say Motlop may stay
By Jake Niall
October 9, 2003

The Kangaroos are confident of persuading disgruntled forward Daniel Motlop to remain at the club following a talk yesterday.

Kangaroos football manager Tim Harrington said he had spoken briefly to Motlop on the phone and would meet him as soon as he returned from the the club's end of season trip in Mexico.

"We'll meet with him when he gets back and try to sort it out from there," Harrington said.

He said the club was "definitely" confident it could keep Motlop in the fold. But Motlop also spoke to his management yesterday and reiterated that he intended to leave Arden Street.

Motlop's management told the Kangaroos on Tuesday that he wanted out, with Port Adelaide and Essendon believed to be his favoured destinations.

Yesterday, other clubs joined the Power and Bombers in declaring an interest in Motlop, whose talent and price tag would make him an attractive proposition for most clubs.

Family issues are believed to be factors in Motlop's walkout; his partner is expecting a child and might feel comfortable in Adelaide, while brother Shannon's future at Arden Street is uncertain at best.

Meanwhile, the Kangaroos yesterday opened talks with Hawthorn about Jade Rawlings, who indicated last week that he wished to cross from Glenferrie Ovazl to Arden Street.

Harrington said the Hawks and Roos were looking at "a number of scenarios" involving draft picks and players.

And from the Herald Sun...

Herald Sun's take on it

Motlop leaves Roos guessing

THE Kangaroos won't know until Sunday where they stand with disgruntled forward Daniel Motlop.

Motlop shocked Arden St on Tuesday night when his management informed the club that he wanted to leave.

Football manager Tim Harrington spoke with the 21-year-old, who is on holiday in Mexico, yesterday.

"There is not much more to add at the moment," Harrington said last night.

"There won't be until he comes home and we can sit down face-to-face and work it all out.

"We need to break things down and see what he is thinking."

Motlop, who is understood to be keen to play with Port Adelaide or Essendon, returns from overseas on Sunday.

I'm frightened. Confused. Tearful. Homicidal....

I still dont know what to make of it. But like i said in one of the other threads, theres just too many things not adding up ATM.

"Home sick", yet no "i want to go to a club that plays in S.A" or what-have-you, like Nick Stevens has for example.

The fact that all the noises coming from the club are that they fully expected him to re-sign with no problems, yet in the space of a few days he has quit with no apparent contract dispute or refusal of any offers etc etc says something else has happened here.

It really is driving me nutty.

2nd crap night's sleep in a row coming up! :(

What I find disturbing about the second Age article is that his manager has reiterated that he has spoken to junior again and has confirmed he wants to be traded. Also the "we are confident of keeping him" line smacks of the Pagan scenario.

I have tried to rationlise it on the basis that he is a fringe player coming good but it does no good it is still a kick in the guts! .

Maybe the club could get Jimmy or Phil to talk to him. The kid is pure silk and has now shown the defensive side of his game.

Strange timing. Being on the interstate trip gives the club/players a chance to get into him (to change his mind or get him drunk and tell him he's signing the room bill ;) ).

Maybe that's where/how the problem started in the first place...

guys read the article. It says he wants to be there for his partner who is going to have a kid.

This is exactly like the Des Headland scenario, boy very promising, high draft pick, just turning good then wanting to move home for personal reasons. Who are we seriously to tell him to stay with us if he wants to be with his family? Sure tell him it's not all bad and that they can move down to Melbourne the club will look after that end of things, but to hold him to ransom is just wrong.

Personally I'd want to get Salopek and Guerra for him if we trade with Port but I don't think we can trade for Salopek because of the 2 year contract rookies get which is gay because he's the perfect candidate.

Whereas Essendon have no one that is even in the same league as Motlop in terms of a trade....so this is very gay, but i think we're going to have to lose motlop unfortunate is it may be...

To state the bleeding obvious, if it's for his family than Essendon aren't in the frame. It's ten minutes from Arden Street. I would be happier about the whole thing making senser if it was clearly wanting to move state for family reasons - perfectly reasonable and we all know where we stand and can move on. Like with Byron. But this scenario that's being tossed around of moving to Essendon is confusing and worrying.

btw Neo - please stop using "gay" to mean bad. I know you don't mean anything but it's a hurtful thing to say when there are so many alternatives that won't offend. cheers.

I agree totally...

If it is family, then why the hell Essendon...?

Come on Roo management, give the memebers the full story - can't you see we are all worried...

If we knew either way the full story then we can move on, which ever the direction is, without the speculation...

I think the article suggests his partner would be more comfortable in Adelaide - not that she actually lives in Adelaide. Motlop's case is different to Choppy's where his family had already left Victoria for South Australia.
