Doesn't it say they were close to agreeing terms before Jnr's management contacted them?
I haven't read much of this thread, so I apologise if this has already been said.
Hopefully it is nothing more than Motlop coming out of contract after a good finish to the season and his manager trying hard to get him some big bucks. If he threatens to walk, that may force the club to offer him extra in his contract, and the plan has worked.
There is nothing worse than seeing a future champion leave your club.

I heard a story about Steven Hamilton and Wayne Carey back before either had played a senior game for North they both told the club they were going back to North Adelaide because they weren't getting a Senior game at the Roos, the very next week they both played seniors and the rest is history.

i was initially gutted by the daniel motlop wanting to leave thing.
i have spent two years telling my north melbourne supporting boss that adam lange was never the real deal and that daniel motlop was key to our continued success. she's giving me hell over that but,
in the cold light of thursday night, i reckon that he is not as important to the kangas as bigfooty's other sponsored procuct - drew petrie.
have we definitely signed drew up?

Pretty sure he doesn't come out of contract til next season, no chance that he'll leave tho - absolutely loves the club.

As the trade week starts on Monday, does that mean we have to have all our uncontracted players resigned by today?
The reason I am asking, say he doesn't get resigned this week, but he's not traded next week, that means he would be out of contract, we would be unable to trade with anyone as we missed the trade period, which means he would then have to nominate for the pre-season draft, and we would get nothing in return.
If this is the case, then we should find out by the end of today what is happening with our players, who is gone, who is traded etc.

Nope, it doesn't matter whether players are contracted or not as far as trade week is concerned. You trade on and off your list, regardless of contract status.
All new tradees/draftees have to have their contracts sorted out post trade week.
There is a contract cut-off date later this year - anyone who is out of contract then has to nominate for the pre-season draft.

Apologies if it has already been mentioned here, but a small HUN article reports that the Motlop issue gets sorted out this Sunday when he returns from his trip.
