The final game of the year and we were sitting precariously in the top 4! A win against the Royals would seal our double-chance, so we brought some BIG TIME Qooty focus to the match at the Royal Throne.

The Royals are quality, and it was a great week of chit-chat with Marlowe, Kapow!!!, CakeEater and spookism.

After creating SFA mini-figures, Proper Gander was all guns blazing in the match thread, dishing up zinger after zinger…

Come Sunday, nerves were frayed, but the SIM was kind to us. A seven-goal first quarter set up a victory that became comprehensive in the end (43 points), locking us into the top 4 for the fourth consecutive season!

DemonJim continued his vintage late-season form, while Tarkyn_24 had a fair crack at the FRED, kicking 9 goals 4. It was a ripper victory, and we were then able to turn our minds to another finals series!

VOTES:

3 -
Tarkyn_24 [13 kicks, 9 goals]
2 - DemonJim [24 touches, 9 tackles, 1 goal]
1 - Proper Gander [19 hitouts, 14 touches, 3 tackles, 2 goals]

Qualifying Final
RoundQF.gif

Finals time – the time us Demons love best! And what better side to play in finals than our bunnies – the Furies?

As could be expected with the Furies, it was a strange old week. TJASTA was at his unusual best, while Tigerturbulance was busy shooping meat shields.

The week was a tough one in other ways too. Our dear friend Deaneus! announced he had a fight on his hands, and we all rallied together to #doitfordeaneus in whatever small way we could.

For a while there, it looked like the sim wasn’t going to be kind to us. Four goals down at quarter time, 3 goals down at three quarter time – things were looking grim. But we pulled closer and closer in the last quarter, and in the 20th minute, a little bit of magic happened…

There were plenty of big performances when it mattered, but – fittingly – Deaneus! was our hero, kicking a goal to extend our lead and winning the next ruck contest to help guide us to an amazing come-from-behind victory. It secured our place in another preliminary final, and gave us a much-needed week off.

VOTES:

sante [19 touches, 9 marks, 3 goals]
2 - DemonJim [22 touches, 9 tackles, 1 goal]
1 - Yakker [27 touches, 4 marks, 1 goal]

Preliminary Final
RoundPF.gif

Another season, another preliminary final. The sim had finally started to show us the love we deserved, and it was an honour to play in our fourth preliminary final in a row!

Our opponents – for the third time in the season – was the Wonders (cats2rise loves them). After 186 or so match thread pages in the preceding two matches, we’d virtually run out of material to bring. In spite of that it was another great week as the Wonders tried to extend their dance or whatever it was they were doing.

It was great to see Wonders’ new recruit, Broken, back involved in match thread posting, while Bloodied52 and ClarkeM were their usual chatty selves.

The match was a real seesawing battle, with Tarks and cats2rise helping us to a 10-point HT lead. However, the Wonders came out HARD in the third quarter, kicking 7 goals and at one point leading us by 29 points. Trailing by 20 points at 3QT, we had it all to do in the last quarter, and Callums_Guns stepped up straight away, kicking two goals and dragging us to within 8 points in just the third minute.

From there, we went into all-out attack mode and while our kicking was inaccurate, we managed to sneak ahead in the 7th minute and somehow held onto the lead for the rest of the game. We had just qualified for our third Grand Final in four seasons, and Tarks was thrilled to bits!

Callums_Guns put in an epic performance for us on the day, while Proper Gander had a run up forward and kicked 3 important goals. Oddhawk was also very impressive after he was moved into the ruck. All-in-all it was a strong and even performance across the field!

VOTES:

3 -
Callums_Guns [19 touches, 4 marks, 2 goals]
2 - Oddhawk [23 touches, 7 hitouts]
1 - sausageroll [17 touches, 8 marks, 3 tackles]

Poster Of The Year Award
5. Poster Of Year Header.png

As I’ve mentioned a few times, I’m incredibly proud of us as a posting club. The sim is unpredictable, but what we can control is what we bring to match threads and the league in general.

I don’t think there’s another club who nails the mix of quantity and quality that we do, and I’m super-appreciative of that.

This season, I decided to start a new award, to recognise quality match thread posting. You’ll notice that I’ve chosen a ‘Poster of The Week’ for each round. This has been selected based not only on number of posts (although this helps), but on quality of banter and working good areas with the opposition.

So, onto the winner of the inaugural Poster of The Year award.

I’ve loved having this guy around me this season – he plays the least glamorous position on the ground, but still manages to rock up every week and hit them out of the park. His friendly but interrogative style is on-point, and I think he gets a lot of respect across the league (but absolutely deserves more).

But more than that, he’s a dear friend.

Congratulations Headless!

Grand Final
RoundGF.gif

So this was it – after 19 games and thousands of shit banter posts we were finally back in the big dance.

I must admit to feeling some nerves after what happed to us in the Season 28 Grand Final, but I knew that it was an honour to once again get the opportunity to lift up the cup. We had to put it behind us and give it a massive crack against the Rats – no regrets.

A match was played, a match was lost, a perfect storm completed. The less said the better...

VOTES:

3 -
DemonJim [23 touches, 18 tackles, 2 goals]
2 - Van_Dyke [30 touches, 5 marks, 1 goal]
1 - sante [15 touches, 8 marks, 2 goals]

Congratulations Headless. You’re a champ.

Deestroy Medal - Third Place
In third place in the vote tally is one of last season’s winners.

This guy managed the most tackles of any player in the league in Season 29 and was a constant presence throughout the season…

Congratulations on standing out in a stacked midfield unit Callums_Guns.
