200cm Key forward ruckman for Northern Bullants. Been averaging 15 touches and kicked 13.5 in 4 games. At 25 he would still have a fair chunk of his career left to go. Doing this for a relatively poor side as well. was signed for our VFL side back in the day as well, don’t remember him, not sure if he got a game.

This guy just keeps putting up numbers year after year, how someone hasn't given him a crack is mind boggling.

He goes to Sydney or Collingwood, effortlessly slots into AFL and everyone celebrates the hard road he took.

He goes to us and inside 2 weeks is making Luke McDonald look like Aaron Davey by comparison.

Search your feelings. You know this to be true.

Hosie, Edwards, Ham & Dawson.

Literally 0% from the top couple of picks each time.

I feel like the hit rate for the MSD is 10%, if that. It's to be expected clubs will miss in the MSD.

I would go for either a kpf or a tall/high tackling mid for the msd. Feel there’s more of those types around (therefore a higher chance of making it), than other positions running around atm.

The point you make is a fair one, not least because there's a fail rate in the full draft too.

But successful clubs pull diamonds from the rough - Collingwood probably aren't representative because of their outstanding returns from the MSD, but they've had the same number of picks and got two bona fide best 22 (Ash Johnson and John Noble), and the other two are still on the list (Josh Carmichael and Aiden Begg), and we've said farewell to Charlie Ham and Lach Hosie, and likely to do the same with Dawson

Which leaves a lot riding on Jacob Edwards awakening from his slumbers

Should be the mid season trade period instead. Only a matter of time..
It will just turn into another mechanism to suit the strong teams and push the smaller teams to the bottom.

Look at Free Agency. It all serves is for the top teams to get a free hit at talent in its prime without giving up draft currency.

There is the odd occasion that a team forces a trade, but that’s the exception, not the rule.

I agree 💯 with free agency, but disagree on the trading of msd draft picks.
The example I gave earlier in this thread being the pies are in contention and would trade overs in ND draft picks for the chance of the best ruck in the MSD. Sydney might pay overs for an early msd pick to get a key position back.

We ain’t getting anything in the MSD draft that’s going to change our position, but we might get more chips to trade and play around with in the ND.

Hence why it’s inevitable

I agree with the premise of Free Agency, I just don’t believe in the system they have implemented.

I see no reason that if a club wants a Free Agent that they shouldn’t also give up the relative compensation value in draft capital. They are still getting their player but also paying the freight, not the competition as a whole.

It might also start to lessen the absurd contracts given to players to entice them to other clubs so they can get a player without losing draft capital.

Free Agency itself has been of no benefit to creating equalisation, all it has done is allow for the stronger clubs to have longer sustained runs at the top with the possibility of struggling clubs going through a recruitment loop as they lose their talent in their prime.

Yes clubs need to take some ownership, but in the current climate how is a club like ours ever going to compete with a big club in getting the top tier free agents?

As I said it’s just another mechanism that is in favour of the bigger clubs.

As I said, I agree 100% with you on free agency. It hasn’t been good for the game at all.
