Guys, I noticed that once Gibbs was let loose in the mid-field in the last couple of games under Ratten, he obviously became much more damaging. With this in mind, assuming Gibbs could maintain that sort of form for an extended period of next season, who do you think will be more valuable as a player - Murphy or Gibbs?

I think in an onball position murphy will be more damaging at this stage..but i believe gibbs will be used in many differnt positions and can do it better than murphy.
But im sure he will be used in the middle a fair bit nxt year and will have an impact

I can see Gibbs becoming our "Mr Fixit" in years to come. A little in the Buckley - Hird mould in terms of able to play forward, midfield, and even across half back.

Murph is more limited in that he may go forward into a pocket from time to time, but is an out and out onballer, and hasn't had the "backline apprenticeship" that others have had, but didn't fair well in some tagging roles from time to time.

It's a bit like asking who hurts you more, Kerr or Judd.

Well Kerr wins the hard footy and Judd finishes it off........sorry........Judd finised it off (past tense :D).

Both will be very good, but different players.

An interesting debate. I guess time will tell, but where is the fun in sitting on the fence...

Murphy to get the accolades! But Gibbs will be one of our favourite sons.

Gibbs, as acknowledged by others, is a more flexible player. Gibbs has the ability to plug holes.

Ironically, because Murph is, and always will be, a midfielder, he will be more consistent and predicable player who has the ability to finish off the good work of others. Gibbs will be one of those 'others'. The guy we need to play different roles, but ultimately he'll be the little 'mongrel dog' that is a pest to opposition teams.

So my guess Murphy will be talked about in more glowing terms. But I'm guessing Gibbs will be more of a favourite amongst blues fans, because they will be able to appreciate the role he will play for us.

At the end of the day, these two guys will be 250+ game players for us and both will be absolute legends. Lets just hope they also have a couple of premiership medals to galvanize their careers.:D:thumbsu:

I think that both are goin to be excellent players for the Carlton Footy Club, so it is probably not right to compare them to each other.
However, if i was to choose one, you would probably have to say Gibbs, because he has a little bit more size and is more versatile, whereas Murphy will probably play his whole career in the midfield

that is a brilliant post. Sums it up perfectly.
well done Grizzly.

There's something about Murphy...he's just got that x factor that leads me to believe he could become a future star of the AFL.

Nothing against Gibbs as we havn't even seen the best of them yet, but if i had to choose one atm from what i've seen thus far it'd be Murph.

Gibbs has the most awesome kick..have seen Bucley -esque deliveries on numerous occasions. He will be the rock, kind of makes time stand still like Hird. Roaming around (forward, middle, back) doing great things. Will be an understated sensation.

Murph will be more visible, harder at it, Diesel or Harvey from the Saints. They will both be constantly referenced as the "back-bone" with Walker being the live-wire who can tear a team apart in 20 minutes of phenomenal footy.

Been pretty well covered, but I think Murph will be a more pure midfielder. He'll get more possessions and be more consistent.

Gibbsy I think has more physical talent in his body, and with his greater size and so on, I think he'll be more of an x-factor. There'll be more games where Gibbs is a non-factor, but also more where's he clearly gets 3 Brownlow votes and is the difference. I could see Gibbs being in the Hird mould (obviously he has 15 years of dominating to go before it's fair to compare to Hird, but that STYLE), in that he's a roaming matchwinning gun, who goes where he wants.

F*&^ing tremendous that they both play for us!

It really is a case of who'd you prefer... Charlize Theron or Scarlett Johansson? You can't go wrong... and we've got 'em both.
