That's not true at all. He receives the privilege of living in a safe, politically stable, and prosperous democracy.

The same that’s afforded to the “pretend” job seeker or immigrant that we/I all of us support. There is a place for everything in proportion but when I pay 49c to the dollar, pay roll tax, GST, PAYG, Super and company tax I struggle to see the legitimate benefit I get. I can barely get any god damn TP or tooth paste because many people who don’t work or contribute can line up at 7/8am whilst I start work so I can support my family and keep others in work.

Either way you look at it, there’s few that give more so that many can do 2c of bugger all. If I wasn’t engaged in client based industries where services are provided on shore I’d have set up operations off-shore like so many others I know, our society is silver spooned and expectations of those growing up are only going to exasperate that mindset.

I pledge to hoarde even more tissues and paper towel tomorrow morning than I did today. If this virus never existed I would've bought 12 boxes of tissues the past 2 weeks as I use them for everything. I am owed in lou bigtime

Where would you make the cuts?
Destroy the bureaucracy, cuts to non-necessary spending on education, welfare etc.
Tertiary education should be free in my opinion.
'Free'? No such thing.

I'm at Uni, and don't mind racking up a few grand in HECs debt at all. People should have to think carefully before enrolling in a tertiary course, it shouldn't be a free for all.

Why do you want to cut welfare in these times? ScoMo and the LNP are throwing money at the less fortunate right now.

A few grand? :poo:

It wasn't always that way. You've been brainwashed by right wing propaganda, my friend.

Why should VCE students graduate without debt hanging over their heads (rightly so btw) while uni students have to pay tens of thousands for their education?

It's in your and my best interest to narrow the gap between the have and have-nots.

Toilet paper wars are just a small sign of what we'll face if society falls apart. Those same people who push you out of the way to get the last TP will eat you if they're starved long enough.

Of course I want a fairer society, I’d love to see the majority of our population have opportunity and to have purpose but I also want to see people work and work hard. I’m scared that the generation coming through our education system now are spineless, struggle with adversity and can’t comprehend direct and frank confrontation. It’s a concern for mine.

I don't see that as an issue purely associated with our youth. The last recession Australians faced was almost 30 years ago, and since then we've been among the most prosperous nations on Earth. We've become complacent and soft, and have little experience in dealing with adversity.

When the world goes to shit, count on Australia going down twice as hard.

The average Australian has more in common with Barbie than Crocodile Dundee in 2020.

How much actually gets spent on welfare?

I watched a doco about Bonny and Clyde the other day. After they were killed a huge crowd mobbed the dead bodies to steal souvenirs off of them. This is about the same time blacks were treated as animals and Hitlers Nazi party popularity was booming.
People have always been shit, lets not pretend like it’s a modern phenomenon.
So true. FFS people used to enjoy standing around watching people get a public hanging or watching people burn who were falsely accused of being a witch.

Humans will human.

Go live in a communist or socialist hell hole then, see how much you enjoy your ration of milk and loaf of bread. Some people are just genuine complainers, we are bloody blessed in this country. Everywhere you go there are grubs, it doesn’t matter where, it’s just humans.

At least you could get some bread and milk

If you are paying tax at 49 cents in the dollar you really should get a new accountant

A lot. At a federal level, it is by far the biggest expense:

Stop pre-empting arguments and intent; did I ever say I wanted to do in right now? I was speaking generally.

Because VCE is the standard, prescriptive, minimal, general education which just about everyone should have, while a university degree is a highly specialised course which should be a prestigious, extra endeavour. University degrees are worth less than they used to be, as they are over saturated. You wouldn't believe how piss easy it is to pass, even in a difficult course; is it really a good idea to lower the bar even more?

People have to face the consequences for their decisions. It's their choice; their mistake if they fail, if they pick a bad course - they pay, not me. Their responsibility, not the state, not the taxpayer.

I agree it should be cheaper, more a nominal expense which makes it sting a bit. $4k-5k per year depending on the course should do it.

ok mate

At this unprecedented and challenging juncture in our history, as a true Australian I pledge to be kind, courteous and helpful towards every one who tread this great land. I undertake to share its bounties and support each other as we ride out this storm together.

For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair

Pre-empting intent...Jesus. I'm responding to the words you posted and you're deferrring payments like a future investment banker. That's a new one. Nice work. ;)

There is no legal requirement for anyone to attempt or pass VCE. It's a minimal standard only in your extremely limited view of the world.
People have to face the consequences for their decisions. It's their choice; their mistake if they fail, if they pick a bad course - they pay, not me. Their responsibility, not the state, not the taxpayer.
Nobody is forced to attempt VCE, so why should I fund it through my taxes?
Nobody is forced to smoke, so why should I fund medicare for people who smoke?
Nobody is forced to be obese, so why should I fund surgery for the obese?

I'm fine with that if VCE students pay a nominal expense also. $10k seems reasonable.
I'm not your mate, pal.
