Didn't one of you blokes mention that Hine deserved 3 weeks?

Good to see you visiting our board.

Can you give me an update on how your intellectual lightweight or should I say ineffective heavyweight is traveling?
Of course I mean the one and only Jamie.

Regardless of the above I have appreciated your input.

Today was wet, cold and windy.
The young North side were shit, our skills seemed to improve the wetter and windier it got, stark contrast to our first NAB games.

I was on the fence 15 meters from the Hale incident, if they have footage from the angle I was standing, I reckon hes goneski, he was bloody good today as well, I thought he was BOG.
I would love to know how many kms Isaac put in today, toughest and hardest efforts at the footy that I have seen from him, well done Isaac.
Shiels was huge early, in everything liked he hadn't missed a beat, as was Mitchell.

Bradley Hill, pick 33, lol that's Dimmeys and Forges bargain bin type stuff.
He just finds it time and time again, runs to receive, makes smart decisions, he is a beauty.
Lock him in on a wing round 1, together with Isaac on the other wing they are going to be almost impossible to contain.

The decision to take Grimley before Vardy may end up being vindicated after all.
I am convinced that non Hawthorn supporters will know this kids name by the end of the year.

So if Haley misses round 1, do we go Bailey or Grimley?
id be inclined to play Grimley as the Cats rucks will be undermanned. Grimley looks like he could be anything, raw but we have a gem. Vardy is injury prone & overated, taking a punt on Grimley could be a great choice.

One other thing I forgot to mention, I would have Doc Duryea in my round 1 side probably at the expense of Puopolo.
Does everything Pops can just with more class.

Def agree strongly with your sentiments re: Hill being a bargain. He has the Breust ability of hitting the contest at pace. Showed some great vision at full flight as well by foot at one stage. Has class. I actually really want to see him resting up forward given his pace at the contest. Could be another avenue to goal for us - 1 a game would be perfect. He is quite a different type to what we have had previously - very different to Young for those suggesting he will play the Young role. Thinking back for mine he is perhaps like Camporeale. He can go missing for periods but is only in season 2.

Puopolo has to play. Something happens nearly always when he is at the contest. He is quick and aggressive, a good tackler and can also find the ball in contested situations. He does lack composure which is what you are hinting at and I am not convinced he will ever gain this but he is very handy when fit. People judge him on his finals last year when he was flat as a tack which is fine but he did play some pretty good footy last year which perhaps gets overlooked. He looked ok on the ball too at times which suggests he might be able to move into the midfield - perhaps that is where he will learn some composure with the ball.

I like Duryea as well. Has a good strong set of legs on him and is creative. He will play games this year.

No Savage or Wanganeen which was disappointing.

Big Max Bailey - he was atrocious in the first quarter. Simply could not get his hand on the ball at the centre bounces. Goldstein all over him.

But as the game wore on, he worked his way on top and in the second half gave our blokes an armchair ride. It seemed that he started jumping at the centre bounces and his positioning at thrown ins was great. Was an impressive display.

The best and the worst of Max in the one game.

Still cant regularly get into the chain of possessions as an extra mid or take marks from kickouts. But tries his guts out when the ball is within reach. Took a couple of chest marks. Doesnt really want the ball to be honest when it is in his possession. This should change with confidence.

But I reckon Goldstein has a pea heart to be honest and Currie despite being talked up massively by the supercoach crew wasnt what I expected. Surprisingly Majak didnt ruck much at all. Did take a good hanger though.

I reckon behind close doors Clarko would have every idea of what side he will play in RD 1. Bit of guessing games wont hurt. I just find it hard to believe that there are so many question marks on so many players to be ready for round 1! I think that's whats killing everyone's confidence for the season so far, we really have no idea who is going to line up. About time we played a full(ish) side though, it was needed.

I was at the game today. Our skills in difficult conditions was noteworthy.
But on Hale- saw it, hard to know. Its one of those where opponent has his head down. Makes it very hard to tackle without making high contact.
At least Hale wont have carry over points or a record- unlike Buddy who was also in the vicinity (thank god he held back! phew!).
So, if the MRP do charge Hale- i'm thinking negligent, high, low or medium impact.
If he gets low impact- he'd be right wouldn't he with a guilty plea?
Would he also attract a good behaviour discount- no reports in 5 years?? Dont think he's had any probs with us, but cant remember with Kangas if he has ever been reported.

If you get to 125 points - an early plea sees you play - anyone know what negligent-high and low impact would get him???

Gotta pretty much agree with all of this.
Duryea - strong set of legs is an understatement. Huge muscles, bigger and more defined than Goo. Saw him live against the Doggies and again today and he is ready to explode. Very impressive

Puopolo is an interesting one. I think him losing a starting 22 is more a reflection of our team improving overall rather than him going backwards. He is quick, strong and has a dip. Lacks a bit of class and polish but by no means is ge going backwards

Hill is an amazing runner. I don't think I have seen anyone at Hawthorn with that sort of running ability at that age, including Crawford. One passage of play today saw him overlap opposition players from the back pocket to the forward pocket for 3 possessions. The effect of his running is to pull opponents out of position allowing teammates to take easy options through the middle. This helps with dangerous counter attacks and good delivery to a leading forward.

I don't want to put the moz on him, but he fella in 23 looks to have honed a nice new set shot routine. The main thing is he looks confident with it. I reckon it's got something to do with the last stride or two before he makes contact with the ball. He was almost over stretching just before release with a larger step. I detect smaller step/s just before contact. Anyway, it appears to be working well because he didn't look like missing in very blustery conditions today

I went to the game as a neutral supporter today .. Got rained out in the last quarter ! lol ! Very impressed with the hawks overall, in particular Puopolo, Mitchell and Franklin. North had no answer in defence to stop Hale and Lance. Loved the play of Mitchell in the middle also ! Doesn't panic and very composed and seems to have all the time in the world.....

It seemed in the 2nd half the hawks cleared the ball from the centre almost at will ! No contest....

Only North Highlight was Majac Daw's Big Mark !

To think rioli and lake will be back soon is scary...

good luck

The AFL match report cites Ellis as injured (again)... the guy just does not have the body for it unfortunately. If we could implant his football brains into the body of a Jordan Lewis type - crikey!
Would be like combining Einstein & Arnie*...

(not in size, of course ;-))

I thought Poppy was good today, like a terrier around the contest. And loved how he got stuck into about three North players when Buddy was pushed into the fence. Small in stature but big heart.

Video of Hale's report. It's obscured by other players, but it just looks like they're going in low for the ball and Adams comes off second best.

Yep, Hale gets low to contest the ball and they both get to the ball at the same time and the smaller bloke comes off worse. Nothing reportable about it really. The umpire was behind Hale and guessed what happened.

Any vision of the North bloke's report?

Was at the game and am much more optimistic about sucklings replacement than was last week, duryea has serious potential and talent imo, cool in the clinches and has a thumping left foot on him which to me appears not much effort either, the goal he kicked in the 3rd admittedly with a gale behind him he practically stabbed at it and it sailed through post high from 52-53m out, hill just oozes class, is surely an absolute certainty to be starting round 1, can just see him cutting the cats apart with relentless run and speed, has so many more strings to his bow than young you cant even compare the two really. Liked grimley as well, its been a long 4 years but it could very well be worth the wait because this guy could be anything, has similar agility to buddy and is looking more and more confident with each match he plays with the big boys. We look bigger across the shoulders and through the core and that includes some of the young guys, cant see the cats being too big and strong for us tbh. Schoey looks significantly bigger up close, has put on a good 4-5kgs maybe more i would think. We have options for every position now, if gibson doesnt play round 1 spangher will do a decent job imo, has a big mature body and wont get outbodied too often, he is the sort of guy who does the basics right and you need that sort of player in your team, overall we made a statement to the cats and gave them something to think about.
