Emac looks like he may have a popliteus muscle/tendon injury which is bruising to the back of the knee, if hit right it can cause server pain and once cool it can be hard to straighten your leg 2-3 weeks tops, here's hoping.
I vote popliteus, or hope if that isn't sadistic. had one myself and it was painful.

Well that was a bit of an anti-climax. Priddis, Kennedy and Shuey being our best players against Carlton's B-team kinda sucks
Would you prefer they played like shit?

Okay, ive never done a write up before so here it goes... A few thoughts on individual players and the team as a whole, (well as far as you can judge a NAB side/performance and one viewing of the game)..
  • 2 Mark LeCras: Silky as always, with the arm troubles done, he and a few other ill mention are front and centre for AA squads. Game today just showed his class with ground ball and hitting targets/goals.

  • 3 Andrew Gaff: Super impressed, have been off him for being soft, but is developing a rounded game like Heppell. Running hard to link up as that offensive mid, big year ahead.

  • 4 Dom Sheed: great hands in the contest, hits targets, Priddis 2.0, but with greater upside, might not get a charlie, but will be more effective. (priddis DE looked best of his career today though)

  • 5 Brad Sheppard: Best performance of the WCE. may not have been BOG, but produced plays like his U/18 highlights reel.. Finally gonna see what hes made of. Bitadash today.

  • 6 Elliot Yeo: Looked more comfortable at half back.. Not to say he wont be a mid, just not immediately, id say the missed sessions due to the hand withheld the development, NAB is only one game in tho. And there were flashes of the brilliance he can produce. One more year till he makes the permanent jump.
  • 7 Chris Masten: Happy with the performance. looking like the younger accumulator that was coming on, but (obviously) has a more mature head on his shoulders. hits targets. He and gaff receiving from the contest and delivering forward looks good.

  • 11 Matt Priddis: First hands on it. Brownlow medalist. nuff said. Disposal (like the team in general) looked really good. The clearing handballs to runners = A+

  • 12 Sharrod Wellingham: has the class. has the weapons. does he have the desire and hear? looked like the second efforts were there today. promising. cant pick how hes going to go.
  • 13 Luke Shuey: our best candidate for genuine elite damaging mid. looks good. looks fast. looks strong. get nick nat back. G+GA. nothing else to say.
  • 15 Jamie Cripps: Actually, is on par or above Shep. The two most interesting players for the year. next step beckons. Today showed he can do it. Clean hands for the most part. Good disposal also and good decisions. Very happy watching that today :)
  • 16 Eric MacKenzie: Another AA candidate. Fingers and toes are crossed for the injury! was looking very good. loved that long bomb.
  • 17 Josh J. Kennedy: Again AA. will discuss in the team summary, but will get in the squad barring injury. prsented and kicked very well. especially on a tough evening.

  • 18 Xavier Ellis: Premiership player, and he looked like it. Our back line is going to cause some headaches.
  • 20 Jeremy McGovern: Could be anything. Love this guy. DUKES. Cannot wait to see what he brings over the next few years. Good At CHB, will fill the role of MacKenzie more than ably if its require. otherwise, could be best swingman in the game by seasons end.

  • 22 Callum Sinclair: better than Lycett today, but tough gig for talls.

  • 24 Matt Rosa: solid self, you know how he plays. same old.
  • 25 Shannon Hurn: the new skip. looks like he'll relish in the role. with the other half backs/mids performing, less heat (maybe) this year, but their increased performance will allow him more freedom.. and will push for AA squad also.

  • 28 Tom Lamb: Kid tries HARD! you can see the effort, will that correlate to games this year. Quite possibly. He takes the body contacts, and can release the ball when the target is there. that sort of composure is good to see, at pace on the run though you can see the physical developement still need a bit. but fatigue in the first game compounds issue, so theyre more evident. exciting prospect though

  • 29 Scott Lycett: Didnt see the blinder of a preseason performance i was hoping for, but again, hard day for it.

  • 30 Jackson Nelson: Massive pick up. will play alot of football for us. Couple of brain farts during the game, but reminds me of Birchall off HB/BP... Disposal is good
  • 32 Simon Tunbridge: Early on today, was writing him off, didnt have any composure, but was combative... however he Lacked conviction too, so i cant pick his game :( he did work his way into it, but i think the commentators focused n oe mark and thought that made his game.... Has potential, this year decides if it can be reached.

  • 33 Josh Hill: Same old all day, and was a little quiet. But once down back, noticed alot more... might be a good switch (but like the talls and forwards, it could have jut been a difficult day.

  • 35 Patrick McGinnity: same old

  • 39 Malcolm Karpany: Shakey, just need game time to get into it.. havent seen what he can do.

  • 44 Jamie Bennell: Solid, like his year in 2014. Upward trend in improvement is all thats needed. regular.

  • 47 Kane Lucas: same as he was at carlton.

WestCoast Eagles: okay, as a rd1 NAB game i wasnt really sure on what to expect, especially as i didnt see any of the all stars game. But the game really impressed me. Watched the COLvHFC game yesterday, and the similarities in posession between the eagles and haks off half back was clearly evident. We hit targets. maintained the ball. and pressured the opposition ball carriers. It was exciting to say the very least. Simpson will be a good call.. those elements are fundamentals too and given that you wont see the overall game plan in its entirety this early, to have those basic looking so good makes for a prosperous outlook for the year. Pace wise, due to the quick, clearing 10m handballs we ran them off their legs. Young blues side yes. but the ball movement speaks for itself, regardless of opposition. Lateral kicks like the handballs were releasing our runners, with gaff and masten especially capitalizing on it.. Shuey is showing a big year is coming, if 80m plays become a regular thing, his goals and gaol assists are going to push him into elite catagory. But with a deep, 1st starting midfield, needed to test our actual improvement/capability, we dont know for sure the position we are in, but with arguably the best spine in the league, the year looks promising :)

Be gentle BF...

Haha nope - but it puts our 30 pt win into perspective considering they are three of our best 5 players whereas Carlton was missing most of theirs.

  • Mcginnity - Came on, did some good things, will be AA
  • Hill - Dangerous around the contest, best goal sneak in the AFL...... will be AA
  • Lucas - Another AA candidate, sat around the packs all day, only just missed his set snap on goal
  • Karpany - Got plenty of it...... Will be AA

Have all 6500 of your posts been this productive ;P

Impressed with,
Sheppard, strong over head.
Cripps ran hard all day and just didn't get rewarded.
Sheed is going to prove to people that pace isn't everything.
Nelson will be pushing the half backs for a spot all year. Watch out Ellis and Sheppard. I would already play him ahead of Butler.

Guys who didn't go so well.
Hill just very quiet.
Mcginnity if you think Priddis is a bad kick just have a look at this guy.
Karpany still young and still got a lot to learn. There is no reason for all this criticism i have been reading. Very harsh on him you can't expect every young player to have excelent and consistent games.
