NAB Cup: Any Interest?

We go through this every year.

Simply put, no I don't. More specifically, I care a lot about Carlton's performance in the NAB Cup and only have a small interest how the opposition goes.

I couldn't care less who wins or loses, more so how individuals play with regards to the opposition.

With Carlton, I like to see how our gameplan is coming along and the improvements of the players and team as a whole.

All in all, the NAB Cup exists because clubs are always going to play practice game before the season proper. It happens at grassroots level and it sure as hell will happen at the elite level. Be thankful the AFL are kind enough to televise some of the games with us.

THOUGH I would prefer they play it by normal season rules (with the exception of the extended interchange) and only trial rules which might be realistically introduced into the season proper. None of this 9 point nonsense.

for a team that consistently sells out during the HA Season, the crowd at Subi looked horrible

To be fair it was like 4 millions degrees that day which could keep people away.

I have lost interest in the NAB Cup now that Eagles are out - couldnt care less who wins - if I had to choose someone though Id hope it is a Doggies Vs North Melbourne Grand Final.

The crowd figures have been pretty poor for many of the NAB Cup pre-season matches and it seems the interest in the pre-season comp is about the same as the interest in the Winter Olympics at the moment. Do you take the NAB Cup seriously? Thoughts?

Last time I looked no one is paying scalpers $1800 for a ticket to the NAB Cup.

I enjoyed watching the NAB Cup on Friday night, but it pales in comparison to how much I am looking forward to the Gold Medal game of the Hockey tomorrow morning.

Canada versus the USA for the whole thing......it doesn't get any better than that!!!!

So it's Port v Footscray, then Saints v NM/Freo.

could scratch my arse and care more.

At least when Carlton made the NAB Cup GF there was substantial interest in seeing whether they could pull off the double - preseason cup/wooden spoon. ;)

I have noticed that interest drops off dramatically after a loss.:)

I'm sure we'll get bugger all to the game later today, but you'd think the pre-season comp would be an excellent opportunity for all those people waiting on West Coast's membership queue to see them play once or twice a season.

As a window into what you can expect from the season I take it seriously. But of course you have to filter that through who is in and who is out, where people are played, and how long start players are kept on. Plus how serious a crack the opposition have.
A few of the teams that didn't make the semi-finals will nevertheless be amongst the top teams in the H&A in 2010, ergo we didn't see a true reflection of them in the NAB Cup. But the four teams left in the semi-finals will generally begin presenting their top team by that time and I'm pretty sure their fans will take next week seriously, I know I will.
As a sideline I enjoy a good game of football even where Port aren't playing, and there have been a few. Sydney/Carlton and Collingwood/St Kilda were excellent viewing.

when your playing port it doesnt build much excitment. cant blame the fans for not going and like someone said 38 degrees not very comfortable weather...

No I don't but I'm pleased there are people like yourself that do.

I'm sure the AFL are too.

The crowds have been disappointing, especially when you consider there have been some pretty good matches scheduled so far. I wonder how the TV ratings have faired for the footy.

Live TV helps keeps the crowd down, lastnight the crowd was small because we played Sydney but the game against the Skunks the crowd was much bigger.

PS If we had of been beaten by Sydney last night I probably would have started a thread just like this one....;)
so therefore I'm enjoying the NAB cup.

The 9pt goal rule puts me off, thought it was only if you kicked it from outside "50" NOT 10-25 as most have this year after a 50m penalty, which ,lets be fair, should cancel out the 9pt and make it a 6.
Beside, StKilda has LOST both their games on REAL scoring. making the game a total farce.
BRING ON THE REAL STUFF
