That was a ridiculously high quality SOO game and I can’t help but think the new stupid tackle rules are forcing more fans to turn towards the NRL to embrace a less officiated, more contact sport.

It's nothing like that.Yes, and none of the games during the season would have the quality of a State of Origin match. It is like saying "we have a full A-League season, so why would you want to watch the Socceroos play"
Ive gone back to NRL for this reason. Also making the bump and the hip and shoulder redundant and the ridiculous biased Umpiring. That was a ridiculously high quality SOO game and I can’t help but think the new stupid tackle rules are forcing more fans to turn towards the NRL to embrace a less officiated, more contact sport.
That's fine, but in the wash up there was at least one season ending injury to come out of that game. That's the cost to clubs as a result of their players participation. That was a ridiculously high quality SOO game and I can’t help but think the new stupid tackle rules are forcing more fans to turn towards the NRL to embrace a less officiated, more contact sport.

Dead as a dodo. Season too long already and clubs will be loathe to risk players.
And for those who say NRL works there is a big difference, players are eligable to represent Australia so there is incentive. AFL does not have an international game.
State of origin is one of those things we'd love to have but just can't.
combined teams, like the dream team, the allies, or even qld/nt just won't appeal to their audience. (Would you care much about a combined vic/sa state team?)
Which means you're dealing with a lot of teams, either 6 or 8. And teams like Tasmania won't be able to field a team every year, let alone the territories. Which means you probably need to include state league players in this representative comp.
And you'd need some form of a tournament, as random one off matches are meaningless. So, something like 2 divisions of 4, with 3 weeks of round Robins before a final/relegation round. That's 4 weeks minimum. When is this to be played?
In some parallel universe, AFL SOO is thriving after evolving from the 90s. Its huge, everyone's into it, and it's smashing ratings and selling out stadiums. But it's just way too much to set up from scratch now. Way too many people would need to suddenly buy in and invest.

Unfortunately that only lasted a few years, nobody turned up, nobody watched on fox, and the SANFL sides in particular mostly fielded reserves teams. If it could be done post-season rather than midweek during the season, maybe it could work (still likely running at a loss but the qualifying clubs might care). However players at that level are often playing other sports, or just living their lives, over summer and the football clubs at that level don't often have the clout to use the ground ahead of cricket clubs in October.I actually would prefer a state champs series where the best couple of WAFL, SANFL, and stand alone VFL teams face off.
Work it into bye rounds during the year to get a ladder and play the finals series after the other leagues are all wrapped up.
I want to see Werribbee and Norwood face off with a proper commentary team, make it a double header with Sturt and Swan Districts.
