NAB CUP: Essendon vs Brisbane

I'd rather beat teams at their best. I like watching all young players and I hope all of them go well. It is a bonus I have 6 first year players in my SC side to watch more carefully and Rich is just one of them.

I'd rather win no matter what the cost.

Would you rather have played the 99 prelim with Kouta in or without?
96 with Plugger in or out?

Even Rd 16 last year with Foley in or out?

To put SC or DT ahead of an Essendon win, even in the NAB Cup is wrong.

You'd have to question your support when a game you are unlikely to win comes in more important than your team's success, no matter what the game.

Would you rather start to instil a winning culture in the players, especially those like Zaka who haven't played in an AFL win, or get a good look at a cashcow prospect?

On another note, bring back the white Dempsey.

I'm going to ignore the 2 minutes hate today, simply because I can't be bothered

Channel 10 listed Essendons in's as Davey, Winderlich and Lucas. No Myers...:(
But then I read that the team wont be chosen until tomorrow, so now I don't know what to think...!
Can anyone shed some light for me? My gut tells me not to trust the idiot box.

Only the squad has been released, and he is in it, He'll be playing, no matter what.

That'd have to be one of the strongest NAB Cup squads we've named for a while, at least on a reputation basis.

Should be interesting to watch the 4 big boys up forward together, and the returns of Winderlich and Davey are very, very welcome.

Good chance of a win I'd say.

I'm really looking forward to this one, guys.

Gut says were gunna murder these bannana-bending biatches.

Cant wait to see Zaharakis and Myers in action.

Only a win will do.

That win vs Brisbane at the dome last year was one of the best of the year! let's rub that **** Voss' nose in it on his Melbourne debut. Do it for Froggy!

Should be an interesting game, especially with important players from each side being rested.

Jonathan Brown one of seven Lions out against Bombers
Bruce Matthews | February 26, 2009 12:00am

THE Brisbane Lions have rested seven of their best players for tomorrow night's NAB Cup quarter-final against Essendon.

Captain Jonathan Brown, ruckman Jamie Charman and key defender Daniel Merrett are still to play a full-scale game this season.
The Lions are awaiting AFL advice on whether they can include Albert Proud, who has been suspended by the club, in their squad for the game at Telstra Dome.
Proud, 20, will face an assault charge later this month after an incident in a Gold Coast bar.
Simon Black will be sidelined with a broken hand, while Brown, Jared Brennan, Michael Rischitelli and Travis Johnstone will be rested.
New boys in the Lions squad are first round draft pick Daniel Rich, midfielder Jack Redden, half-back Matt Austin and rookie Adam Spackman.

Essendon's Andrew Welsh (ankle), Brent Stanton (quad) and Jason Laycock (foot) are unavailable while Kyle Reimers and Bachar Houli were left out of the squad.

Speedy forward Alwyn Davey, prolific goalkicker Scott Lucas, hard-running midfielder Jason Winderlich and highly-rated young midfielder David Myers will play their first games of the season.

I do not go for Carlton. I don't hate them, but I don't go for them at the same time thank you very much!

Red card please. At least until you start to hate them.

In all fairness what is there to hate about Carlton!!

They get the best young kids can't win

They get Judd still can't win

Have a gun full forward yet still cannot win

I say lets not hate, lets enjoy for the scum still wont be winning!!

And then there were two. :D

We were terrible tonight, lucky to get away with a win in the end.

The four key forwards idea doesn't seem to work that well and i struggle to see how Knighter can play them all come round 1. Not only does it make us top heavy up forward, but it also doesn't allow us another running player from being able to rotate from the bench.

That kind of admission has no place on these boards!!

Fairly scrappy performance tonight, had some good moments but a lot of bad as well.

It's good to see we are implementing some form of a defensive side to our game after last season although I still feel we are very susceptible to being burnt badly on the rebound out of defense. Hopefully they will continue to iron out this issue before the season proper.

NNNNOOOOOOO!!

I was treating Carlton with the contempt that they deserve I know a Carlton person who thinks I'm a "Smartarse" for bagging them so any chance I get to bag and pick on the scum that chance is taken!!

They know we are waiting!!

After your display against Brisbane, we know you are waiting - to get smashed!

A nearly full strength Bombers were disgraceful against a bunch of kids.

We were missing half our best midfield...

mate name this so called best midfielders that were missing all i saw that were not playing was lovett murray and houli. meanwhile brisbane had no brown, merritt, black, brennan, johnstone, charman, power otr rischitelli to name just a few cmon mate we both know essendon are in for a long year if the can only beat brisbanes under 19's side by 2 points.:)

McVeigh (half the match), Welsh, Stanton, Prismall, Reimers, Houli.

Although we smashed you last year even with Black, Brown, Merritt, Brennan, Johnstone, Power, Charman and Rischitelli. So maybe that would have been an advantage to us if they were in the side :)
