How do we feel about Callan Ward coming up against his old side? I personally couldn't care less, but it makes an interesting talking point.
I daresay Liam Picken will make Ward's GWS debut less than enjoyable

I wouldn't pay him that much respect. Ward is good, but he isn't good enough to require a heavy tag. Play Boyd or Griff on him and he will cop a pasting. Or maybe put Clay Smith on him and see how the young fella goes against another hard nut. :thumbsu:

Djerkurra
Moles (is he still on the senior list)?
Williams
Morris
Sherman

They'd be all likely to play some senior football this year (At least three of those I'd consider in our best squad of 25 players).

Hooper, Moles and Mulligan would need some game time over the next couple of weeks, or else it doesn't look good for their opportunities for the rest of the year. Hooper and Mulligan would take some considerable improvement to make it as a regular anyway.

Great to have Shaggy back though. Hopefully he doesn't break down this year, usually presents super fit and ready to go.

Just to clarify who's OUT (and on Senior List)

Lake
Higgins
Cooney
Tutt
Morris
Gilbee ... injured? Or interesting OUT
Djerkurra
Moles
Sherman
Hill
Mulligan
Hooper
Pearce
Roberts

No rookies in the squad either. Would love to see Redpath, but perhaps not ready.

1. Jarrad Grant, 2. Robert Murphy, 3. Mitch Wallis, 4. Daniel Cross, 5. Matthew Boyd, 8. Patrick Veszpremi, 10. Easton Ward, 12. Tom Williams, 13. Daniel Giansiracusa, 14. Clay Smith, 16. Ryan Griffen, 19. Liam Jones, 21. Tom Liberatore, 22. Dylan Addison, 23. Jordan Roughead, 25. Ryan Hargrave, 26. Zephaniah Skinner, 27. Will Minson, 29. Tory Dickson, 30. Christian Howard, 32, Michael Talia, 37. Lukas Markovic, 40. Luke Dahlhaus, 42, Liam Picken, 48. Matthew Panos, 49. Ayce Cordy

Guess Easton misses Cal so badly, he's changed his surname! :D

Pretty sure Gilbee has a slight leg injury from a couple of weeks ago.

Disappointed that Hill is not in as he played ok in the intra-club. Moles and Tutt both did ok also so assuming they will come in for game 2 along with maybe Pearce, Cooney, and Lake.

Have I missed something with Higgins? Is he injured again ... or just a further fall from grace?

It was only a week ago when I was reading that article about "no more excuses" or whatever.

Probably just decided not to risk him with the travel at this stage of the season. A bit of what they like to call 'management' going on with him, as there is with Lake and Cooney and probably a couple of others.

Surely Ward would be their best midfielder atm? If anyone needs a tag, it's him.

I hope Clay Smith plays on him and shows him what the new model is like.

All it will show him is that Ward is better at this stage.

I understand that people are a bit offended about Ward leaving, but the kid was a gun when playing for the doggies and still will be playing for GWS.

I will still enjoy watching him play...but I would also enjoy watching Picken pester him all game :D

Good call. That would be a tough assignment first up, and probably just the way Smith would want it.

I am SOOOO excited!!! It's been a long 5.5 month wait to see the beloved Bulldogs, can't wait to see them running around!

Just to confirm, the 4 noobs listed are:
  • Matthew Panos;
  • Clay Smith;
  • Michael Talia; and
  • Tory Dickson.
Hopefully they play Talia against the Pies (as opposed to GWS), as I am quite keen to see how he fares against Dawes (presuming he is named).

I simply cannot wait for Saturday night!

i reckon they will play Talia in both games.

I agree totally with Hill, in fact I thought he was much better than OK, not sure Tutt and Moles (more so Moles) did enough.... I'm happy with Skinner getting a run and would have liked Redpath and Campbell in there as well..

isnt it just typical that Collingwood gets the easy run of the games in this round. They get us 2nd up after we will have already played 40 minutes of football against the Giants, so they will have fresh legs against us, and then they get The Giants last which they should comfortably win as they are far superior......

Just ridiculous if you ask me...

It's only NAB cup, so it doesn't matter. They have only selected around 10 best 22 players anyway, so it's not like they are full strength at all.

Redpath did nothing in the intraclub. Let him play some footy and learn the game before throwing him into the 1's just because he's big.

I agree Campbell should have played -- at least in my opinion -- but I suppose you can't play 'em all.

Yes Campbell is impressive and did play very well last week. We have choose to take only a squad of 26 to Bankstown, we could have had as many as 34 I believe. Collingwood has done the same. We play only 4 x 20 min quaters and too many players just dilutes it too much. We already have 3 rucks selected.

I only suggested Redpath because I see him just throwing about their kids and just making them hurt, almost as a welcome to the AFL sort of moment.

Right because GWS AFL side is so much better than a VAFA div 3 side.

The Collingwood side is also piss poor, they are playing 5 of their best 22. Throwing him into the 1's now is no big deal.

Im at work all day today, missing out on the action down at Flemmington where my mates are.

Anyway. I would love nothing better than to go home tonight and catch the doggies for the first time this year.
