Gold Coast Suns first games at an AFL level will be played against GWS (as much as an AFL level that is) and Sydney Swans.

Isn't it the top 2 from each group that progress? So you would assume Sydney would get through to the next round* and either Gold Coast or GWS..
Personally I am torn. I want GC and GWS to have a strong rivalry, and the best way for that to happen would be for them to beat you in the NAB comp. However I want you to progress to the 2nd round so I get to see how you team plays for a 'full length' match..

*Roos seemed to have little desire to win NAB games, perhaps Longmire will be different.. But either way they should still win.

Apparently it's the 6 group winners and then the 2 best runner up's (based on percentage I assume) who will make it through to the second round.
A strong win against GWS and at least a competitive game against the Swans should almost be enough to get us through.

Anyone think we will play our best side? The AFL is toying with the idea of a 30 man squad for the NAB cup I heard?

oh please, pathetic people like you need to wake up. Your club is identical to the GC or GWS. Yes it has been playing for longer but it is still a brand that is 100% owned by the AFL.

Why are you being such a ********? You don't know what's going to happen with the Suns and out of sheer jealousy and disrespect for the code, you claim the club will fail without even playing a match..
You are right though, most AFL players come from Vic, SA and WA, but that doesn't mean there wont be any more Hirds (ACT) or Reiwoldts (QLD) to come from the northern states as popularity of the sport increases.. You wanna give these new clubs every chance of success, bro.

Anyone else think we will progress maybe?

Top side of every group and then top 2nd placed sides from all groups get to rd2. All we need is a solid win against GWS and a respectable performance against the Swans (who never seem to show up preseason) and we progress through to the quarter finals

Yeah. You'll smash GWS and then should go close to, if not beating Sydney who take it pretty easy in the pre-season.

I think you'll at least be one of the top 2nd place sides with what should be a heavy beating of GWS.

It would be good to see the GC go through to the second round and play a full 4 quarter game of footy.

You forget that Roos isn't coach anymore. Its anyone's guess as to how seriously John Longmire will take the NAB Cup.

I'm hoping the Swans play their strongest possible side. The sooner our youngsters get into it against top opposition the better it will prepare us for the real stuff.

I'm not concerned really if we progress through or not, as long as this is another piece in preparing us for round 2 v blues. But it should be extremely interesting to watch, is it televised??

I'm going to have to get Fox again. It used to be pretty good when i had it before when they had that dedicated FoX Footy channel - pity they got rid of that.
