Hmmm good idea, a little qi gong therapy. I wonder if hanging the weights from the nards helps hamstrings? Any physios in the room?

I can’t see it on the website yet, but Geelong posted on Instagram that Cockatoo has signed a one year contract extension. It makes sense, gives him and the club a chance to see if he can actually play footy when he’s (hopefully) injury-free.

Good move.
He's no chance to play this year, let's give him a pre-season to get fit and confident in his body and make 2020 an absolute make or break year.
Either you play 15 games, or you find a new home in the GFL for 2021.
Shame that his body might let him down, has immense talent, reminds me far too much of Paul Lynch.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a trigger clause in his contract for next year

Can anyone advise if he is at training or remains in rehab?
Training but only 70% i think from last report ill see if i can find it

From the preseason thread

Geelong midfield coach Matthew Knights admitted Cockatoo had plenty of work ahead of him to get the necessary continuity into his body but said Chris Scott and his team were keen to see the explosive ball winner back at AFL level in 2020.
“Nakia has done probably 70 per cent of the football so far and he tops that up with conditioning in the same day or the same session,” Knights said.
“He is using the ball very well in drills and his skill execution has been very good but now he just needs the continuity and to string sessions and weeks together.
“It has been really good so far but we are only in the infancy of pre-season so we would like to see him complete a good four or five months, which would be exciting for everyone to see … we have all referenced the long game with Nakia, which has been based on his body not being able to stand up to the rigours so far, but he has been able to do that (this pre-season).
“So there is no question if he gets through pre-season Chris would be the first to let him rip into football as soon as he can and we are all really looking forward to him playing football. I have got extremely high hopes he can be a strong contested midfield, which is where he is doing the majority of his training.”

On the GFC Podcast Stokesy said he is compelting his modified tranig program fully and is expected to ramp it up after XMas.
When questioned about the modifoed part - Stoksey replied that he's doing everything asked of him and that the club is playing the long game... the inference being there is no need to have him going full speed now.. that will adjust post XMAS as he joins full training drills

Yep a full pre-season should be goal number one. If that happens, I'd be happy with a nice block of anywhere from 4-6 VFL games. Get him actually match fit and in form first. Then we'll see what can happen.

The impression I got from it was they dont want him to be going full speed right now... but he probably could if he had to... he's modified currnetly thru load management rather than an injury management

Didn't feature Thursday night vs the Pies. I queried that w Kingy from krock. From what Danger said in a recent presser, has been flying in pre-season despite the reigns put on him.
*I nearly fainted when one of the media outlets doing a piece on the trial labelled Cocky as "hard luck story" was also one of the players who didn't play. Thinking that he'd broken down since Danger talked him up.

He's one of those blokes about whom they used to say that if he didn't have any bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all.

He seems to be tracking ok at this point. Theystill cautious but he's been in full training or thereabouts. He just needs to stop out running his own body

mmmmmmmmmmmmm but I would expect that if he is in serious consideration for AFL selection before say round 4 this would have been the perfect platform to see how he is progressing.

My worry meter has fired up again.

Maybe. As far as I can remember though he's always been selected when available for seniors. They may have just been looking to test kids they were unsure of the capabilities of. Like cockarfitt said, if he doesn't play a marsh match let the worry-o-meter spike

If he doesn't play at least 1 match in the marsh series I'll start to worry a little.

If he doesn't play at least one match in the Marsh series, the club is certifiable if they try to run him out in the seniors before Round 4.

Simply must have some continuity in actually playing football matches before being considered for the ones.

I don't think anyone could possibly say that they think the club has been rushing him this time round.

Not on to the field, no.

But if he plays Round 1 in the seniors after anything less than a couple of competitive games in the lead-up, I think that's not even just asking for trouble.

It's much more like demanding it.
