Not on to the field, no.

But if he plays Round 1 in the seniors after anything less than a couple of competitive games in the lead-up, I think that's not even just asking for trouble.

It's much more like demanding it.
Why? No more likely to get injured in the firsts then the seconds.

If he doesn't play at least one match in the Marsh series, the club is certifiable if they try to run him out in the seniors before Round 4.

Simply must have some continuity in actually playing football matches before being considered for the ones.
Nope. You pick your best team. He's in it.

That was never proven during the rare occasions he was fit and ready. After more than a year out, I don't see that as justifiable without any preseason. Only your top few players should be considered automatic ins after long injury layoffs, and Cockatoo is not one of those. Time spent in the VFL was good enough to get Menzel ready; it should be good enough for Nakia.

I Disagree strongly.
Well he has shown he is best 22 for half a game sometimes even 3/4s but never a full or even half a season

Like i said i love Cocky he has all the potential in the world but for the last few years he has used it for the rehab room. When (if) his body starts to hold up he will probably become my favourite player

If he's fit, he plays.

He's had basically 12 months preparation. He should be rock hard fit. He was apparently at the club throughout the off season training and building his tank..

He'll more than likely play in the preseason games, and if he pulls up ok and form warrants it....well..... its no good pussy footing around. You play him.

Cockatoo shows all the signs of being a very good addition to what is already a talented group. Lets see if he's able to bring it when the heats on.

He's the one player I'll be looking for first this preseason.

If he's not in the seniors by Round 3, it will be two full seasons out.

There's no way he justifies automatic selection at this point. To be truthful he never has.

In my mind he starts at zero now. He never offered much more than potential when he was, on the rare occasion, getting games. His body is unreliable and I think multiple players have now gone past him. It's up to him to play VFL and earn a call up. If he smashes it in that league and the body holds up after a few weeks, then we know he's worth a punt. "We drafted this guy with our first top ten picks in yonks so we gotta play him" surely ceases to be a good reason to pick someone after five years.

I totally understand the sceptics...

...however in my opinion (FWIW), even from limited exposure, many can see he has qualities that deserve special consideration.

Not every one will agree, that's fine of course.

In the end, he really has to produce in 2020, and injuries notwithstanding, I have little doubt he will.

I think Nakia can be a real game breaker this season and I hope his body doesn't let him down. I would think the club has worked hard to make sure that his leg muscles are not disproportionately strong relative to the rest of his body. But I like the patient, cautious approach as all the training does not replicate the flood of adrenaline that will hit his body when he has the ball in front of him near goal in a match for premiership points. I would give him 4 weeks in the VFL before considering him for an AFL game. I want his going in September rather than April. For mine, a fit Cockatoo is definitely best 18. Happy to wait a little longer.

Yep, he's shown some potential, but zero durability.

I will let the responsible people at the club use their expertise to decide when and where and how much he plays.

But if I don't like what they are going to do, I will make them change their plans.

After all, my opinion is just as good as theirs.

Yes, they have far more knowledge, data and training than any of us here, so I too am happy to go with their call.

But it remains to be seen if they can build something durable from someone so fragile.

Unfortunately, cockatoo was in MC discussions before the prelim when they knew Duncan was out.
That shows how much they are willing to gamble with him.

He's almost over rated now.
