They spent 5 years cleaning up Labors mess
5 years you reckon.

As you can see, labor were elected and soon after the GFC occurred.

Unlike a lot of other economies, Labor spent on stimulus packages to shore the economy up. The net result being Australia was one of a handful of countries that didnt have a recession.

Ten years after the GFC, the vast majority of the worlds economies hadn’t recovered to where they were before the GFC. 10 YEARS LATER and they were still behind. Where Australias economy continued to grow.

You can see by the end of the Rudd / Gillard government, our debt was at about 250 billion - in a time where the interest rates we had to pay on that debt were close to inflation.

Fast forward to Abbott taking power, one of his first acts in power was to gut the tax office - specifically the part of the tax department that deals with multinational tax avoidance. All the senior investigators and forensic accountants were gotten rid of. In a completely unrelated event, multinational corporations stopped paying tax altogether.

Now DaBarz, do you think shrinking the tax base by tens of billions of dollars was

A) good for the budget?

Or

B) bad for the budget?

Look again at the graph - once abbott took power, despite the GFC being over in australia he and his successors more than doubled that deficit before covid hit.

When covid hit - what did the Liberal government do to avoid recession? Exactly what labor did…. Spent their way out of trouble.

But unlike Labor, for their first 6 years in power they didnt have a world wide financial crisis requiring stimulus, they simply stopped collecting tax from multinational corporations and gave tax breaks to the wealthy. They reduced their tax base and watched the debt pile up.

And of course blamed Labor for everything aided by a compliant media.

Cool story Bro
6 years to fix the economy and then COVID

They reversed Gillard and Rudd’s carbon tax for one thing.
And that by any measure was an abject failure.

A Liberal senior minister said this - "The difference between Labor's policy and ours is that Julia Gillard introduced a scheme where big polluters paid Australian taxpayers. Tony changed it so that Australian taxpayers pay big polluters," the minister said.

And Abbott's policy did not in any way "fix the economy". You are speaking shit. As usual.

This is just another reason why debt went up for zero material benefit to Australians - "Introduced in 2012 by the Gillard government, it was dumped by the Abbott government as soon as it came to power and replaced with a more than $3 billion taxpayer subsidy, doled out to applicants that promised to cut carbon emissions."

So I will ask again.

What - precisely - did the Liberals do to "fix the economy"?

Tax cuts

In 2021-22, a person earning $90,000 was paying over $3,000 less tax ($18,217, compared to $21,247 in 2013-14).
Another genius way the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison government increased government debt whilst providing zero economic or social benefit.

What was that you say "that you eventually run out of other people's money"?

Abject failure.

Next?

How about your fellow socialists.

The rate of welfare dependency fell to the lowest level in 30 years – from 16.5% under Labor (in June 2013) to 13.5% in June 2019.

Where did I say that ?
Lol
What about your socialist buddies that actually had to go and get a job.
April 2022, unemployment fell to 3.9%, the lowest level in 48 years.

This was lower than the 5.7% unemployment rate left by Labor in 2013.

Now if you want to actually debate these issues knock yourself out.

You are a very boring poster and I’ve given you way more attention than I should have.

It is currently even lower under Albanese at 3.5% - the lowest in 49 or 50 years. So what? I cannot name a Albanese policy that caused this. Can you name a Liberal policy that allowed them to get to 3.9% in April 2022.

I guess you could argue that Morrison's decision to not support any foreign workers during the pandemic causing them all to go home was a policy which in turn has created a massive workforce shortage.

Sounds like another abject failure to me.

None of your answers have been backed up by any data or links.

Just “I guess” and “sounds like”.

Try posting something other than what you “‘reckon “.

Pity about inflation, and that tax income allows for provision of long-term infrastructure development and such.

The economy isn't simply 'people having money to buy s**t'
I’ve edited in more info as you clearly need EVERYTHING explained to you.

Trickle down economics isn't really a thing. If you want to encourage spending you're actually more likely better off handing the money to low income earners who are going to spend every cent than you are people on $90k p.a.

So instead of tax cuts for higher income earners, they should have doubled the welfare payment like they did during covid.

I'm not giving the answers champ - you are.

I asked the question "What - precisely - did the Liberals do to "fix the economy"?" and 4-5 times you have replied with "Just “I guess” and “sounds like”" and in each response "None of your answers have been backed up by any data or links".

Ahhh
So that explains why Grim Jim got rid of the LMITO

It’s all so clear now

I’ve posted what they did.
If YOU cannot understand that more money in workers hands, more jobs and a lower welfare spend is good for everyone then I cannot help you.

Luxembourg and Belgium pay exactly the same price for the same spec iphone despite 17% vs 22% gst.
I don't necessarily disagree with your overall point, but this may not be the best example. One can easily walk across the border and buy the iPhone in the country with lower VAT. For that reason, retailers in the higher VAT country have every incentive to cut into their profit margins to equalise the price between the countries.
