On the Hun...

Let's hope he just gets eased back into things.

Would love him to be dedicated though, can you imagine this guy in 2 years if he found the passion and dedication of Gaz Jnr!!!

Thanks for that.

Yep, will be interesting to see how he progresses - either way, if he's training seriously and wants to play in the twos then there must have been a bit of progress made as far regaining the passion and motivation. Hopefully, anyway!

Re: Nath Is back

Bloody fantastic!

Get him training regularly and give him a few games at the end of the year to wet the appetite! He is only 22 and will only develop further. Now he has seen what life is like without footy he will hopefully have a renewed passion for the game and its rewards!

I can only imagine a forward line boasting Hawkins, Ablett, Gamble, Lonergan, Varcoe and Stokes!!

If he gets fit and beefs up there is no telling how good he could be!

Re: Nath Is back

Make no mistake about it, if he comes back into the VFL and shows the sort of firm he did there in the 2006 finals series, we will be considering him for AFL selection. The only reason we wouldn't is if the playing group has already said that he cn't play this year.

Re: Nath Is back

Looks as though this time he is at the club on his own accord, rather than when he first started by the club chasing him and almost pressuring him into an AFL career. Hopefully he really misses it and really wants it and sticks with it. Hopefully next year we can all watch Ablett to Ablett again and watch Nathan become a great forward alongside Hawkins for the next decade.

I just hope he enjoys it enough to stay and then hopefully have a great career

just heard Balme interviewed on SEN. He said he will only play VFL this year. He hasn't done a pre-season etc etc. It would take a few weeks for him even to be fit enough to play VFL. That all makes sense, I can't see him in the seniors this year.
Makes it hard for the two Tom's next year!

Re: Nath Is back

I'm not getting too excited. I'm not convinced he has the passion for the game to commit himself to be the best he can be. While I hope like hell it happens frankly I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: Nath Is back

I hope that he is committed. I also worry that his surname will give him a spot in the seniors and holding certain other forwards back who actually want to be there.

Neil Balme says there's no chance of him playing at the AFL level this year, but geez, if he hits up the VFL within a couple of weeks and some how manages to kick a big bag a couple of times I bet Balmey would eat his words and somehow we'll be reading about Nathan's big return to AFL footy in 2008.

im starting to cream at the future prospect

Re: Nath Is back

I think it is pretty unlikely he'll be back in the seniors. I suspect he has joined the VFL list because he likes playing in the VFL where the spotlight is quite dim. He was convinced to play for the seniors in the first place only because it was pointed out the extra income would make the life of Sue, his mother, easier. Maybe that isn't such a concern now that GAJ is earning plenty.

I don't believe that Nath got any 'free' games through being an Ablett before his hiatus, and I think it's even less likely now. When he was playing seniors in previous years, there was no other viable player in front of him in the queue; now he will have to battle it out with the two Toms, and the other young draftees.

I believe Bomber has always marked Nablett's card pretty hard (maybe because he never really believed he was doing the work), and I'm sure he will make him earn any game he plays at AFL level in the future.

We all now know how the discipline works at the club (SJ being the supreme example); no player gets to tank their way into the seniors anymore. It's a great culture, and they're not going to relax it any because Nath is having a run. Let's face it - even though I think he would have been a great addition throughout the year so far, they're 13-1 without him. Not exactly desperate to rush back any players when you're in our situation.

This outcome is a great result for the club - for those of us who believe Nath will really make it, it's a huge boost. For those who believe he'll never get there, it's more competition for the blokes who will be working harder to keep their spot in the team.

Go Nath, and GO CATS!

Re: Nath Is back

Matt Egan and N Ablett both coming in 2009.. Great inclusions.

I hope they do extend the bench so players dont miss out :)

It is very exciting to have such great inclusions, look at the list to chose from for next year (all going well):

Tall forwards: Mooney, Hawkins, Lonergan, N. Ablett, S. Simpson

Tall Backs: Scarlett, Egan, Taylor, Harley

Re: Nath Is back

This should be looked at as the start of his 2009 pre-season.
really?

Apparently and i dont really know for sure, but by all reports the boy does not like overly hard work. Why would he want to do a 9 month pre-season???
I wouldnt.
I bet he plays VFL in 3-4 weeks, and if he is good enough, as others have suggested, he is listed so he is available for the AFL. The only caveat being that the team have said he cant come back until next year to ensure team harmony- which as we know the players have a fair say down there, then this may very well be the case.

Agree with this, despite the perception amongst morons from other clubs Nablett didn't get games due to his surname, he got AFL games because he was the second best KPF option we had.
He probably played a little earlier than desired but that says more about our lack of KPF options in the last couple of years - he only had to be better than Playfair, Gardiner and a first year Tomahawk.
But great that he is back training with the VFL...maybe one day the penny will drop with him like it did with GAJ.

Remember when he debuted [Rd 20 or 21 2005] he only debuted because we had a long injury list at the time and NA was our only other option up forward [Ottens was injured the week before].At the time Bomber said they had no choice but to play him.He said he would've prefered to him to debut in 2006.

People who think he only got games because of his surname are either nuffies,________s or trolls.

Re: Nath Is back

The VFL is quite demanding in terms of fitness. Either the statement "play VFL in 3 or 4 weeks" is very hopeful or Nate has been doing a bit more than casual sessions in the gym now and then.
