I was including the games themselves (just the GF games, not the sports overall) in the assessment, too. IMO the NRL GF has an edge-of-your-seat intensity to it for the whole duration, which somehow the AFL GF can't compare to.

The pre-match ANZAC tributes this round are a nice touch. Respectful, reflective and commemorative.

But as the dirge-like tones of the national anthem droll on, I'm glad we don't have to put up with this unbearable train-wreck of a tune every week.

Even in finals it's all a bit too much.

Maybe just save it for ANZAC Day and the GF.

At Launceston this afternoon they played the stock standard 'Julie Anthony' cassette version from the 80s.

Obviously they didn't have anyone good enough locally to do it justice and sing it live.

Grabbing any old random just doesn't work.

It represents us perfectly.

Well, look, I really should be agreeing with you here, hailing from over the 'dutch' and all, but I kinda think the other way. Our anthem's tune is a little slow and depressing when you take the words away, at least yours is somewhat upbeat. And as for the words, not wanting to start a religious argument here but asking "God" to defend us seems a little irrelevant these days given how many actually still worship him.
