Why does Fisher still start. Farmar is the better play, and Fisher isn't even a point, unless Kobe plays point to start?

And the Clips have too many Davis' on their roster. They have a B, P and R

Triangle offense, he knows it, he plays better D than farmar and he suits the PG possy in that offense.

Look at Jacksons PG history. No stars, just solid high IQ guys.

Farmar has come along leaps and bounds though and should get plenty of time in the season, especially if he cuts down the TO's.

LAL - dont need a traditional PG. that's why kidd wouldn't really work in the triange (besides no outside J). I guess his IQ and rebounding would help but. but back to the point (excuse the pun) Fisher's D is much better than Farmar. JF is better suited to a livewire scoring guard off the bench.

LAC - i wonder if they'll initial the jerseys

Yep, I mean Ron Harper was a high scoring 2 guard transformed into a D first tall guard/PG for the bulls, and lakers.

Anyone heard about Isiah Lately?

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Authorities say an ambulance was called to the suburban New York home of former New York Knicks basketball coach Isiah Thomas, and someone from the home was taken to a hospital.

Harrison Police Department Officer Vincent Lanzillotti says an ambulance responded to the 911 call early Friday. He declined to give any details, except to say a person was taken to White Plains Hospital.

WCBS Radio reported the call involved "an issue with sleeping pills."

Barry Watkins, vice president of communications for Madison Square Garden, told The Journal News newspaper, "Isiah is fine."

Police chief rebukes Thomas

A suburban police chief likened the conflicting accounts of an accidental overdose at Isiah Thomas’ home to a “cover-up.” The police official also rebuked the former New York Knicks coach Saturday for suggesting that his teenage daughter was the one who required treatment.

“It wasn’t his daughter,” Harrison Police Chief David Hall told The Associated Press. “And why they’re throwing her under the bus is beyond my ability to understand.”

"My cops ... know the difference between a 47-year-old black male and a young black female," Hall said.

"These people should learn something from Richard Nixon — it's not the crime, it's the cover-up," he added.

Authorities were called early Friday to Thomas’ suburban New York home, where police said a 47-year-old man was taken to the hospital and treated for an overdose of sleeping pills. Several media outlets reported that police confirmed it was Thomas who went to the hospital, but he later said it was 17-year-old daughter, Lauren, who had a medical issue.

Orlando Magic
Big man Gortat aiming for big impact

October 26, 2008

Motoring around Orlando, Marcin Gortat has a heavy foot.

Then again, he loves the famed autobahn in Germany.

"No speed limit," he laughed. "Even if there's traffic, it's smoother than I-4."

Gortat can't wait to get from one place to another, and that holds true for his NBA career with the Orlando Magic.

He has finally reached his destination after making the team last season as a 24-year-old rookie power forward/center from Poland.

Gortat, 6 feet 11, 245 pounds, is expected to be in the rotation when the season begins Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks.

"Definitely, I feel good I get this playing time. The coach trusts me. Hopefully, I'll get some playing time the regular season," he said. "I'm happy Coach gave me opportunity as a four-man [in the exhibition season]. . . . the chance to be on the floor the same time with Dwight [Howard]. I think we can both be a danger."

Everyone knows Howard can be a danger.

Gortat is still a mystery man. He was largely known as a summer-league trainee for three seasons. He didn't get his big break until late last season and surprisingly, it came in the playoffs.

After making just six cameo appearances during the season, he seized veteran Adonal Foyle's minutes behind Howard, seeing action in eight games.

Gortat has stayed ahead of Foyle as the second big man off the bench behind Tony Battie. He averaged 16 minutes per game, averaging 4.6 points (11-of-22 shooting) and 5.4 rebounds while recording six blocked shots. He pulled down 12 rebounds against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Coach Stan Van Gundy is "intrigued" with Gortat's athleticism.

Gortat used to be an amateur soccer goalie in Poland and has wowed teammates with ball tricks. He won a bet from assistant coach Pat Ewing that he could dunk from the free-throw line and another wager last season by beating former guard Carlos Arroyo in a game of one-on-one. :D

Assistant coach Brendan Malone works with Gortat and has seen "significant improvement in his body, his game, his confidence.

"His job is run, defend, rebound. He'll get better the more minutes he plays. He has great feet. His jump shot is better and he can now make 10 free throws in a row."

Asked how much Gortat has progressed, General Manager Otis Smith says, "Light years."

"Thinking about what was going on the last three years, I'm just so happy that everything came out the right place . . . everything finish, we can say, with a happy ending. My main goal was to get to the NBA, to get in the rotation," said Gortat, who was on the inactive list 73 times last season.

"Sitting in the second row, dressed in a suit. . . . It's an entirely different world sitting between those 12 guys and getting on the floor," he said.

He's dressing better these days, wearing Howard's designer hand-me-downs after the all-star generously upgraded Gortat's wardrobe.

"But I made that stuff on Marcin look good," chuckled Howard, who calls Gortat "Count Von Count" after the Sesame Street Dracula character. "Marcin has gotten a lot better, stronger. We're going to need him down the stretch."

Gortat is headed into the final year of his contract, but he's in no hurry.

"I just want to help the team and leave it in their hands," he said, "Hopefully, they'll understand I've improved my game. We'll see. If Orlando decides to let me go, I'll be sad. But I hope to find another job. I hope to stay in Orlando; that's my home now."

For now, Marcin Gortat is on the fast track to earning playing time.
